Even if this theory works, I realize it’s not perfect because most of us consider our next cards carefully and to have a pop up lock us out of that card or it’s entire family of cards when we’re ready to apply is incredibly frustrating, even if we have another Amex card potentially available to us pop up free. And if we’re locked out of a limited time elevated offer that we really want by a pop up, it looks like our only hope is to spend our way out of that pop up, which may or may not work.
This is me right now. My plan was the Aspire for my last personal card for the next YEAR because I want to stay at 4/24 to keep getting Chase cards every 3 months or so. I don’t want a Gold, my P2 will be PCing his plat to gold in October. I have since put more spend on my HHBiz but I was already spending 300-500 on it every month. It’s true that’s not as much as during my MSR period, but I’ve never had a $0 balance statement. I just wish we knew the algorithm because I don’t even know if trying to apply multiple times a month to see if the pop up is still there will hurt my future chances. And I don’t want to apply for an Amex biz card because I don’t know if that will make a difference with the pop up either.
