Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Dining - Oga’s + All Quick Service Food and Drinks

Wow, that comparison of the 2 Shaak roast platters really highlights the lack of artistic flair and attention to detail that WDW suffers from with their food presentation. I have noticed that recently. Food, particularly CS food, at WDW tends to look just thrown together and unappetizing. Whereas, everything we eat at DLR is picture perfect, even something basic like burgers.

Its California, home of the "oh my god my lettuce is out of place"........Plus DLR does not have near the amount of restaurants that WDW does, 50ish vs well over 200 and all the varied "owners" so the variances will be there and stand out more, does not excuse the sloppiness but not a fair comparision imho...

It comes down to taking pride in your work.

Yup and if that darn lettuce is not in the right place.............:charac2:

One is eating in a Theme park and not Daniel in NY....... ;)

I appreciate that level of attention to detail.

All the restaurants post up photos of what a plate "should" look like. I appreciate the art of a nice looking plate of food. We eat with our eyes, after all.

True but taste is with ones mouth and THAT is the difference the taste, and from what I read here the taste is there.

I posted the WDW Shaak Roast photo and my DD, who loves eating at Jiko and Tiffins, would never order this again even with a CM discount.

It honestly didn't look very good in that photo. I had it again on Thursday night at DLR and it was just as good as the first time. I generally don't really even like pot roast, but this dish is amazing. They could serve it at a Signature restaurant and it wouldn't be out of place. I have actually had a short rib dish at Napa Rose that was quite similar in taste to this one.

I had the Shaak roast and the Takodana Quencher (using 1 QS DDP credit) and it was tasty and plated ok. Is it worth $18.99? I’m not sure. The meat wasn’t fork tender and the portion was rather small.

I haven't tried it yet. But these are the descriptions I've read: There was definitely a dried fish element, as well as wasabi peas, chocolate meringue, lotus chips with maybe a habanero flavor. But it is supposed to be vegetarian . Not sure where the "fish taste" comes from

We LOVED the bits and that description is accurate. Yes, it sounds disgusting. I’m sure some people won’t like it (like anything) but we finished every last bite. If they sold the spread/dip in a jar we would buy it in the gift shop. It was fishy. And spicy.

I also loved the Black Spire Brew which has a similar “gross” sounding description... obviously not doing them any favors or selling it but we thought it was very good.

Ooof...I already had a feeling Oga's would throw a wrench in my daily budgeting, but looking at those prices I think I'd better either rework my numbers to allow more for that day or plan on only having one drink.
Yeah we spent a lot more than we anticipated. It was crazy seeing families where everyone each ordered multiple souvenir glasses and the beer flight. Hundreds of dollars in 45 minutes!

Quick food recap from our 8/18 preview:

Blue milk - fruity and a little tropical with citrus. I really enjoyed it! Need to try the green milk next time which the CM described more as earthy and floral. Seeing that the green milk could be mixed with tequila had me intrigued but we were saving our booze time for Oga’s.

Oga’s - despite the return time we still waited about 30 minutes to get in. We had standing room only which with a kid is rough. The tables are high so any little ones won’t be able to see what’s going on. We had the following:
Oga’s Obsession - such a fun interpretation of a drink. Perfect for our son but we had just as much fun with it. The blueberry balls looked exactly like the wartfrog eggs so we pretended they were. Pop rocks were a great touch. But be warned it is eaten with a spoon so if you order it for your child and have standing room it will be a little rough.
Jet Juice - the bourbon and chile roped me in. But make no mistake, this is basically a shot. A decent cocktail in a super small glass. No fun going on. No ice. No garnish. Plain glass, no frills. I tasted the chile very slightly and got a lot of the white grape which I didn’t love but overall it was enjoyable. Not overly sweet which is what I prefer. For the price point and the size I would not order again.
Gamorrean Ale - I was very excited to try this beer and it was good. Roasty red ale, full bodied but not heavy on the palate. I didn’t get grapefruit upfront but I have to imagine it’s what was cutting through and making it so drinkable.
Gold Squadron - my favorite and one of the most flavorful beers I’ve had in a while. We brew at home, we travel to visit breweries all the time, we have friends who own breweries and craft beer stores and grow hops. We are craft beer lovers and this beer impressed. The lavender is just so spot on.
Bad Motivator - pretty solid IPA. I was excited about the galaxy hops! Tropical, juicy IPAs are my jam so I would definitely get again.
People at our table ordered the blue milk + sugar cookie and the Fuzzy Tauntaun which both looked great. Would recommend for the more fun drinks.

Ronto Roasters wrap - my husband has been eyeing this up for awhile so we had to grab one. I posted elsewhere that I would not be trying this but I did and it was good! Soft grilled naan, creamy tangy dressing + slaw. I am not a sausage lover and if I had my way I would get this sandwich without the sausage but with extra roasted pork. Husband loved it and it was gone within minutes.

Docking Bay 7 - my son and I were in need of food so we got in line at Docking Bay 7. The line was long but moved quickly. There was *just* enough seating for the crowd that was there but I imagine finding a spot once it opens won’t be easy. I ordered the beef shaak and my son had the tip yip. He housed the chicken and romanesco and most of my beef. The Mac and cheese was a little off, no one really liked that. My beef shaak only had about four pieces of pasta with it which was disappointing but I enjoyed the dish as a whole. The sauce, mushrooms, and carrots were good. And the dishes were served on the black cast iron looking dishes not the white ones for those keeping score at home!

We enjoyed everything we tried for the most part. No major misses and we were so thankful to try as much as we could now with the preview crowds :)

funny you mentioned that. If you look in the center of the bar you will see several creatures in enclosures with eggs of different colors. These are the creatures that provide the "eggs" bobas) for all the drinks :) Here's a pic of my daughter but you can see one creature in the background

Are they letting people queue to get in without a reservation, or is it strictly reservation only?

I think this is the same creature...now I know why it was in Oga’s and I may never eat boba again. 😉

Thanks to those who have shared food reviews so far. I have a couple of docking bay-related questions... not sure if anyone can answer yet, but what the heck.

We have a lot of dietary issues for medical reasons, hence the theme of the questions:

- I noticed that the shaak roast on the official HS allergy menu does not show as milk-safe. However, it was listed as milk-safe on the California menu. Anyone have any idea why only the HS version apparently contains dairy? Unless it’s just a typo.

- Again, for unfortunate medical reasons, I can’t handle anything even remotely hot-spicy. However, it seems like spicy is just the name of the game in GE... I’ve heard the popcorn is spicy, some drinks are spicy, the “meatballs” in the garden spread are spicy, and the gravy with the chicken is spicy. Is there anything on the counter sevice menu that isn’t spicy?

Thanks again. :)

I can only help with the popcorn. it was not spicy, it has "spicy" pieces but all together it is not spicy at all, it honestly tastes like trix.
