Almost August WISH Challenge-everyone welcome!

Happy "Woohoo Wednesday" everyone!
My son is finally fever free!!! He was tested for pneumonia, pertussis, mycoplasma, and a multitude of viruses. All tests came back negative. But we were left with riding it out and treating the symptoms. So happy, the fever is gone and the coughing has decreased. His energy and appetite have both increased. He even went outside to shoot basketball. So that's my big WOOHOO for today.
My daughter has started freshman field hockey practices and she seems to be enjoying it. WOOHOO! It's taking me back to my high school years...many, many years ago!
I'm managing to not get completely overwhelmed with new schedules and routines with the kids going to high school, starting fall sports and me starting back to work soon. So that's a WOOHOO for this week. Fingers crossed that I can still say the same next week ;)

It’s a dreary, rainy day in south central PA, but a good day to get some laundry done and clear out some things from the basement. I really feel like I’m making progress. But my big woohoo is that we sat down with my daughter and her husband and planned our next two trips to WDW! Ten days next August (5 nights BCV and 5 nights AKL) and then 4 nights in October (hopefully the Wilderness Lodge) so we can do the Halloween party. My husband and I will stay another 3 nights to do the Food and Wine festival. We’re DVC members and I have to make the reservation in September to make sure we get the time and rooms we want. Her best friend and her husband and their little boy will join us at the Beach Club. We’ll put all of them in a 2br and my husband and I will stay in a studio. You should see us with our charts, calendars and calculators! But it’s fun! So something to look forward to this winter when we’re shoveling snow!

We are going in August next year too. We also have charts and spreadsheets for everything. Even one that tells us what rides are indoors or outdoors. We haven't used this one for awhile though. We pretty much know it now. We are going with my mom and step dad and then my sister and her family are going to Orlando to do other things and then meet us at EPCOT one day and also the day we go to the beach. I am not a fan of having a beach day though but my mom really wants it. I hate sand on wet feet and I am not going in water that I have things swimming around me. My kids will have a blast though.

That is scary. I am glad he is on the mends.

My woohoo is that this is my last day of work before I am off for a few days. Nothing big but tomorrow the kids get there schedules and get to walk them in the school to know where they need to go. The school scheduled it form 10-2. Horrible timing. It was just easier to take the day. We were able to get a make up riding lesson in and a councilor meeting for DD as well. THen on Monday we just have a bunch of appointments. Since I was going to be off Thursday and Monday I decided to take Friday off too and make it a long weekend.

Another Woohoo is I am down another 1.5 pounds

Is there someone that you use to help hold you accountable (kids can be great with that because they rarely hold back ;)

They try sometimes - but then they can be the reason to derail me when they ask to take-out and then I am not strong enough to resist lol. They do try to call me out if I am eating too much chocolate or other snacks. I am slowly getting them more involved in the cooking - then they can start to do it a bit more if I need a night off rather than get take-out for that break. Dr said that it may not just be my choices affecting the levels it could be genetics too as both my parents are on cholesterol meds and Dad has type 2 diabetes.

My son is finally fever free!!!

Yeah! what a relief.

As I head into Thursday night I will say I am thankful for the beautiful day we had today and the fact that even though it is not quite Spring yet - a couple of flowers have bloomed in my back yard in the past week and I can see lots of buds getting ready to burst forth with colour soon.

Thankful Thursday... I'm thankful to be surviving this week. Long, stressful days then group dinners, and sound asleep at 9:30pm. Today I managed to break the system by myself, twice. Which is actually a good thing, breaking is the goal while testing so you can fix and it won't break when it's in production. Maybe that's my new super power... breaking things.

And we've gotten the OK to start part 1 of the 3rd part of my project, so I may not come down to LA next week, as I'll be going to Maryland the week after. I love Maryland, and used to live in Northern Virginia so I'm not sad about this.

Oh Friday, I think I love you. It's a half work day as we leave for the airport at 12:30, to head home. The system is already down (again) for at least an hour and a half so not much is going to get done today at all. I woke up mad this morning, a sign that I'm super tired and ready to go home.

Saturday I have to do a blood draw for tests the doctor wants: the lab is over on the "east side" so I think I'm going to stop by a cute farm/park in that area afterwards, to make sure I do at least one thing new/different this weekend, to feed my soul. Sunday I'm leaving open for whatever comes up, and I'm perfectly content for whatever to be nothing. The only thing I "have" to do is laundry, so I can re-pack to come back down to LA Monday morning. Oh, and I'm sure I'll need to vacuum cat hair off of stuff.... and get in a lot of kitty cuddling.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Edited to add: Just had a revelation... since we're down, I've been sitting in a conf room goofing off, and booked two places to stay during my Local Road Trip in September... the second place was thru AIRBnB, which I've never done before. They also offer Experiences, and BINGO, this is what I'll use to find tings to do that are new/different... like one was to visit an urban farm that raises therapy rabbits and pigs. Hallelujah!

Happy Friday everyone!

I stopped in to school yesterday only to find out that they still haven't determined all the kindergarten placements yet. That frustrated me since I am waiting for my class list to start prepping things for the classroom, orientation and the first week of school. So I left and took my daughter to visit my little nephew. There's nothing like a little baby's smile to cheer up the day.

Today, I'm running around doing chores and trying to fight off this cold so it doesn't turn into whatever my son had!
Tomorrow, I'm going back in time with my sister...to a Backstreet Boys concert :cool1:...since she went to see New Kids on the Block with me ;)

@PollyannaMom - enjoy your lazy day.
@Oneanne - I wish you safe travels home and lots of rest. Those experiences sound fun and exciting! Glad you found something to cheer yourself up :)
@sjrec - enjoy your beach weekend!
Everyone else, I wish you a wonderful weekend!

So my long weekend did not start the way I wanted it to. I was helping my DD get all her school supplies together for Thursday morning. She was opening the calculator with scissors and somehow cut her hand. We ended up in the ER for a few hours. They put starei strips and then glued it. I haven't seen a cut so deep before. Thankfully it is healing good because the glue did not hold longer then about 24 hours.

Then after doing a lot of walking this week foot started to act up. It is weird. It is on the outside of the ball of my foot. Thankfully I rested more today (still got 8,500 steps) and it is doing much better. Now tomorrow is lots of cleaning. Next weekend is DD's birthday party with the family and soccer starts this week. the first games are Saturday (the day of the party) so we need to get everything done within the. week.

Ouch, glad it wasn't more serious and she heals quickly.

Its Sunday night for me already, I'm on the couch - I actually feel like I packed a bit into this weekend though. Bought a new vacuum Friday afternoon - so did a good clean of the downstairs, my bedroom and the stairs. I need to move some stuff around in the main area upstairs before I can get a good go at that - maybe through the week. Washing and Ironing done. Kids to/from work. Walk on the beach all together yesterday. 15 minute walk around the block this morning before driving DD to work. Meal plan for the week, done. Shopping, done - just the few fresh things here and there to get. Driving with DS - getting so close to him going for his licence - I am pushing for it to happen within the next couple of weeks. This has been a LONG process.

The weather here is really turning towards Spring, the weekend was glorious. It is still cooler at night - I have a blanket over me as I type. But this morning when I went for my walk around 9am - I was in a t-shirt and bike shorts and it was WARM and the skies have been a gorgeous blue. DS18 and I had breakfast/lunch outside today - loved it (and so did the next door neighbours cat who joined us).

I say Breakfast/lunch as I am giving intermittent fasting a go - so it was around 12pm when I ate for the first time today. I am trying to do the 16:8 version. I have done it for 4 days now. I have started to try and drink some green tea at least once a day - had 2 today - one around 10am and then I had another late this afternoon as I was starting to crave soft drink. I have been limiting my soft drink as well the last few days - I have sugar free when I do have it - but know that it is still not the greatest. I have been doing better at limiting my chocolate a bit more the last few days. Even though I have been down and up again with my weight the one benefit from the changes I have made this year is an improvement in energy levels - no nanna naps at all this weekend and really didn't even feel like one was needed at all. I have the last few years - napping for big periods of the weekend - so this is AMAZING.

Another thing I have done in the past week is to start taking some vitamins - Calcium and Magnesium. It took me until yesterday to realise the 'funny belly' I had been having was most likely due to the Magnesium. Phew for knowing where a restroom was nearby on our beachwalk lol. Well on the good side of that is I am down 1.4kg over the space of 4 days hehe. I was worried the Magnesium dose I got was too high - when I went back to look at the bottle it said 'super strength' or something like that - so got some different once this afternoon with lower mg dose in each chewy. I have my appointment for a second opinion tomorrow. Every time I tell someone I am supposed to be taking the statin they say "oh no my aunty is a nurse and she tells everyone not to take them, too many side effects" ugh.

I am off to have a read before I go to sleep - I bought Live Happy by Kortney & Dave Wilson of Masters of Flip. Its kind of reno, decorating and a bit about them. It is a bit of a funny read and I am enjoying it and getting lots of inspiration.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend :)

It's been an insane week for me... I'm super behind, so in an effort to catch up.

Topic Tuesday

Question for today - Taking care of your mental health can make it easier to take care of your physical health. How do you stay in good emotional shape?

I am REALLY bad at this. I try to make time for myself and my hobbies, as well as being alone to recharge. I'm severely introverted and get overwhelmed being around people and constantly touched all day, but I usually end up feeling guilty and spending 'family time' with everyone once my husband is home.

Happy "Woohoo Wednesday" everyone!

Woohoo it is/was a long weekend for my hubby this weekend!!! He took Friday and Today (Monday) off. We tried to potty train my oldest, who is three, but that did not happen... he's always late at learning these things so I'm not super surprised.

Thankful Thursday - I'm thankful for family and friends who help out and keep me on track.

I'm going to skip Friday. Hope everyone had a great weekend!!!

I'm severely introverted and get overwhelmed being around people and constantly touched all day

Oh my gosh, I remember that! I'm an introvert too, and when DS was little, I would feel soooo "touched out" sometimes. (Poor DH!) But I would get to a point where I didn't even want the cat within six feet of me.

Just recognize that feeling and arrange a few minutes - that's all it takes if those few minutes don't get interrupted. (That's the key!) Let your DH reconnect with them for a bit while you sneak off to your room for a quick break, maybe trade playtime with another mom once in a while, or put on an occasional guilt-free video.

It's also good to have a few spur of the moment activities in your "mommy bag of tricks" that make the kids feel like they have all your attention, but make you feel like you have some personal space:
* Have a photo shoot or make a video - puts the camera between you and them.
* Ask them to sing for you - on a little "stage" a few feet in front of your "audience" spot.
* Get outside - where they can run around and you can connect with the fresh air and breathe.
* Build blanket forts (w/ chairs, sofa cushions, etc.) - kids love that you made something for them, but then happily ignore you while they play in them.

And remember - this time is going by faster than it feels like! Mine is about to head off to college, and every hug is precious now.
