Not at all! If they are under a year old you should keep them open. Just wondering because I am in the same position myself. I got CIP1 in Jan and am ready for a new Chase biz card in September. I want CIP3 and can easily meet it's spend with a travel charge that is just waiting for me. I didn't know if others were going for CIP3 with two others currently open. My other idea is a CIU but getting 54,500 URs vs 115,000 is a BIG difference. I honestly change my mind multiple times per day 😂

Same here...... in the end I decided not to go for CIP#3 and got CIC instead. I can definitely get some use out of 5X categories and am paranoid that Chase will shut me down.....even tho there is no evidence to suggest that is likely.

Is it possible to give you 7 night Marriott cert to someone else? I see that there is a cat 4 Fairfield in steamboat. I could give it to DH for him and the boys and they could stay a whole week...or not if they don't want to, but I don't have other plans for the cert yet.

Its basically just a reservation, correct? I booked a room last Saturday(using free night cert) night for son and called the hotel that morning and had them put his name on the reservation for checking in. They said 'good to go'. I've done this twice in the last year with Marriott and once with IHG with no problems using my points.

I used my new CIC (PC’d my CIP1 a couple weeks ago) for the first time yesterday at Office Max. Bought 2x $200 MCGC for their $15 off promo. The cashier was very deliberate in her wording...ID with name that matches the name on the card. It made me feel nervous, even though I’m good! Doing it right! But maybe I won’t PC P2’s CIP1 to a CIC. I might just close it.

I'm home from my quick trip to WDW and Naples.
I was able to check my AA biz mailers and they do NOT have the 48 month language. (Unless I'm missing it, but I've reread it multiple times)The offer is 65K points for $4k spend/4 mos.
The mailers themselves don't have the language, it pops up when you go to the website to apply using that code. Have you checked the URL?

Yes, my same exact fear! There is nothing out there saying it will happen, but it still could, right? I feel like there are plenty of other Chase cards to get and I want to keep my CSR so I don't want to be too greedy and have something bad happen. See, I have already changed my mind once today 😂

@DisneyMandC I guess I could do that. How are you planning on eventually getting the money OUT of GSB though? Can I just transfer to my primary savings? I just don’t feel like leaving the funds in there indefinitely YKWIM?

Yes but......all those lovely shiny new URs the CIP3 would bring.........:o :scratchin

Ok!! So you made the reservation for yourself, attached the cert, and then called to add him as a guest, correct?

I find it amusing how much effort AmEx is having to put into the cards now.

A couple random thoughts, with no real substance or analysis -
1. How I don't get picked for the cash surveys? I had a couple for this card and they'd only donate the $10 or $20 to charity. Haven't seen this latest one yet. :p

2. Even if it gave the 3x earnings back in some form, is 3x Marriott still worth earning? Does Marriott still have the redemption options/value it did before Bonvoy? (side note, auto correct automatically changed that to "Bonvoyed" on me - auto correct knows)
It's only 1 additional point over current rate, is that enough to make it a daily driver again like they were used to before? I hazard a guess that the root cause of AmEx's problem is the new Bonblah program and not so much the nerf from 3x to 2x (although that didn't help)

3. If AmEx actually changes the Marriott earn rate, could that mean a change on another card? When the new joint card issuance between Chase and AmEx launched, all the new cards got the same earn rates. Is that something contractual to keep the competition civil or was that just a launch front? Maybe now with a year behind them all bets are off and each can do as they need to keep up the revenue? While AmEx and Chase buy the points from Marriott, Marriott obviously doesn't want a glut of points out there otherwise they most likely wouldn't be the ones overseeing the card sign up restrictions. (It could be logistical but generally if a sponsor can stay out of it they would and they could have stayed out of it)

This could be interesting. Hopefully something good happens in about six months when I'm eligible to get the Chase card :D

1. I got an email about a survey and a donation to charity a few days ago! Maybe you'll actually get a paid survey soon! I have no idea how I was targeted, but you need to answer that you're a business owner, not an employee/unemployed in order to qualify.

2. Good point. Marriott really Bonvoyed SPG. But before the merger, SPG had peak and off peak rates. With the merger, some legacy SPG hotels went up in category pricing, and others went down (to our benefit, for which I remember having to call several times to get the difference of 105,000 Marriott points back #winning). We'll see how Marriott implements their peak and off peak pricing. I haven't kept a list of all the nerfs to the SPG and new Bonvoy program to decide whether it's worth pursuing more Marriott points.

3. Another good point. When Marriott aligned the category bonuses on Chase's and Amex's Marriott/SPG cards, Chase was still issuing a premium consumer (Marriott Premier/Premier Plus) and small business card (Marriott Biz), and Amex was also issuing a premium consumer (personal SPG) and small business card (SPG Biz). Obviously, the alignment nerfed the Amex's SPG cards, since 1 Starpoint equaled 3 Marriott points, and I can only guess that Amex got a lot of negative feedback about that. Now that Marriott's consolidated their credit card offerings between Chase and Amex, where Chase got the mass consumer (Bold, which notably was introduced with lower earn rates) and premium consumer (Boundless) cards, and Amex got the small business (Bonvoy Biz) and super premium consumer (Brilliant) cards, maybe there's room to differentiate them?

Couldn't you just request an employee card on the PC'ed CIC and have one with your name without adding to your 5/24 or Chase cards?

Maybe I’ll do that. That’s a good idea, although I live so far from any office supply stores, I’ll probably be fine with just my one CIC. I also hate to have him call so soon after our recent Capital 1 Venture ID verification debacle. He’s not exactly a reluctant P2 but he clearly has his limits. The AF on the CIP1 will hit Sept 1 I think. Maybe I’ll wait until next May and have him call to PC his CIP2 to a CIC. Nice thing about closing is I can do that by SM.

Did you not have to include any actual business documents? Were they all personal? It’s bad enough having to scan them and digitally transmit. Sending through the mail is just weird.

ETA clarifying that them asking you to do that is weird. THEM not you. Rereading that, it sounds awkward. :flower3:
I did not have to send anything in. It took 8 days to get approved. I only got 1k SL. It took 5 days for them to update my available credit after payment. On a positive note they post the miles earned right away. I've earned 711 miles so far.

@DisneyMandC I guess I could do that. How are you planning on eventually getting the money OUT of GSB though? Can I just transfer to my primary savings? I just don’t feel like leaving the funds in there indefinitely YKWIM?

I'll just connect it to my Ally account and eventually transfer it back into my savings. That's what I generally do with all of my bank bonus accounts.
