Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Attractions Planning

I'm hoping this is a good spot to ask this question. I'm curious about the MFSR single rider line. My husband used it a lot and said at one point he had to go either left or right up the stairs. He said he went right every time except for once he went left. When going right, he said he was immediately handed a job, usually pilot or gunner, and continued to wait for his color to be called. He also said they weren't filling all 6 spots every time. The time he went left he had to wait a few minutes, was given engineer and the ride was full. He said neither looked like it ended where the regular standby line ended (for standby he was only ever directed left once the line split). Once the land opens, will there be a difference between going left or right for the single rider line? Think there are plans for a cast member to send people specific ways or will you just have to hope others went the opposite way?

Just asked Steph, she says: when you go to SR there's a point where there are 2 staircases, the CM determine which side it will be used, most times both sides are open. No one is there, it's just an illuminated arrow. So the guest can see the right side or left side or both illuminated. In his case it was a matter of efficiency, it looks like that day they had some issues with an efficient CM on one side where the pod wasn't full. Both sides are exactly the same. There are 4 different exits because there are 4 different turntables, so the stairways and hallways might look a bit different.
When SR line gets to the entrance they close it. And they never give out an estimated time of wait for SR

Thanks! That makes sense. He figured the line differences were due to it the the preview but could never figure out where he was or where he was going. Its like a maze in there where everything looks the same but still slightly different. :D

Disneyland local here, if the line isn't backed up to the hallway I usually check how far down the stairs it is on each side before I decide. I usually prefer to go left because it's a shorter exit usually and I think that stairwell isn't as long.

Is most of the line inside and in A/C? Or is a large part of the queue outside? Just trying to judge how long I might be willing to wait.

A small portion of the line is outside - maybe the first 10-15 minutes. It's completely covered, though. Just no AC.

First world problem here:

My daughter will be riding smugglers run when we go next year (she'll be almost 4). I know that positions are randomly assigned, but which one would be the most ideal to not destroy the results of everyone else making the run with us? We'll have a party of 4, so hopefully one of us would be able to swap with her.

gunner, all you have to do this press the auto aim button at the beginning and then just press down the button through the ride. Engineer is just pressing the buttons as they light up

Actually not entirely true about it being random. You can ask cast members for a certain position. I was talking with one of the CMs at DL’s GE. And talking about how I was bringing a friend to WDW’s GE and how I would like for the friend to get a chance to get to pilot. CM informed me you can request positions and I was able to request pilot when my turn came up and got it. You just need to be proactive about asking for it when you get to the assignment area from what I could tell.

On the topic of your question I didn’t get a chance to do gunner but I found engineer to be much easier then pilot.

Just to let you know CM at MFSR here at WDW have been told that a position request will be a hard No. Basically it is at the discretion of a CM but, especially for opening weeks, requests might not be granted
People can always request change of assignments with fellow crew members

Huh well that’s interesting.

Though I don’t think I’ll have any luck on the later we’re two 30 year olds. Doubt parents would let us swap if kids are the one getting pilot

Sorry if this has been asked but how does the VQ work with reservations? If the land is filled do you get in anyway or do you just have to miss your reservation?

Disney has not officially said anything, bit people have called and asked and have been told that if you have an "in land" reservation you'll be allowed in up to an hour before, even if the land is at capacity since they are already counting you in

I went on smugglers run at DL last week and was left with almost no impression. The theming was great, but my experience of the ride was meh. I think this was mostly because I had heard that the way you perform your job effects the ride for all 6 people. I was an engineer and was responsible for pushing about 5-6 buttons when they lit up. They were to the side and down from the screen. Because of this I can tell you that they lit up on 4 different occasions but I cannot tell you anything else about the ride. My advice, especially for the engineers, is ignore the buttons - at least on the first ride. The gunners and pilots have to look at the screen so they should have a better experience.
Not saying it is a bad ride, just some advice for first time engineers. We walked on from single rider so it was no big deal but if we would have waited for hours it would have been different.
Overall they did a beautiful job on the land!

I agree. I’ve tried both pilot positions plus gunner and engineer in WDW. I much preferred being the right side pilot as it seems you have the most control on the ride and are looking at the screen the whole time. Left side pilot was fun as well but it didn’t seem there was as much to do. I really couldn’t figure out the gunner thing other than pressing a button the whole time. I agree with your assessment of the engineer - too much looking to the side and boy was it bumpy back there!

Lol, oddly (and I know I’m in the minority when I say this) I liked the Engineer the best - the pilot position pushed my tolerances for motion sickness as I felt like I needed to focus on the screen the whole time (for context, my stomach doesn’t do well with things like Star Tours, etc). As the Engineer, I could at least focus on some other more stationary things occasionally to get my mind off the movement!

I am wondering if the above flyer being in the room means that people can get in the virtual queue before arriving in the park.
