Am I the only one that is unimpressed with SWGE - where is the juice?

Here's a vlogger I watch regularly. I assure you, there are many disappointing reviews. I take no joy in seeing this. I'm a Star Wars fan, but the concept for it always perplexed me a bit. Where's Hoth? Where's Endor? Where's Sky City? Where's the Dagobah System? Where are lands that transport me to the Star Wars I love? Why not just put in a casino like they had in Last Jedi?

What's Sky City? Do you mean Cloud City? A Star Wars fan would know the proper name... ;)
But in all seriousness, this argument has been discussed to DEATH already. What benefit does it serve to continually beat up on the park? Because that's what a lot of people seem to be doing, insulting it for the sake. Are they trying to get people that do like it to change their minds? Some people will like it; some people won't. Avatar land is just ok to me. I've only visited it a few times of the many times I've gone to Animal Kingdom. Yet some people though think it's amazing. But I don't continually say it's terrible, it's a waste of money, it should be redone, etc. It's just not for me. Disney knows this. Star Wars is hugely popular, whether or not kids have their backpacks or not, lol. It will do just fine and prove to be popular for years and years and years to come.

How is Disney going to pull this off?

The new book "Galaxy's Edge: A Crash of Fate" mentions Batuu has 3 suns. Their greeting is even "Bright Suns!" (I'm sure some of you that have visited have heard CM's say that).

So how is Disney going to hang 2 more suns in the sky?
I just asked my DD, the suns might be aligned one behind the other and that's why you only see one, and sometimes they are not aligned but the one closest is so bright you can't see the other 2.

Cloud City, Sky City - They're neighbors. :)

I'm not beating up on it. I haven't even been yet. I'm simply going off what I read and watch. I find it interesting. As for Avatar, gone on FoP twice and won't even bother with it again. Does nothing for me. I know I'm in the minority there. Whatever.

People who are dead set against the sequel trilogy aren't going to like Galaxy's Edge. The discourse in fandom is ridiculous lately and you can't just dislike something without calling it a failure or a flop or whatever. I didn't even like The Last Jedi that much and yet I can go about my life without complaining about it on the internet all the time. And I LOVED Galaxy's Edge. I'm going back tonight for the AP preview and can't wait.

As for YouTubers, they seem to hate the sequel trilogy and will look for any reason to bash anything involved with it. Wait until you go and form your own opinion.

Well then my suggestion is to not further comment on it based on the opinions of others. If you experience it for yourself and don't like it, then that's fine, that's still your personal opinion and feelings. But right now your opinion is based solely on the opinion of others.

Question for you: If the land were one of the many you listed, would you exchange the opportunity to be a smuggler on the Millennium Falcon? Because if you're on Endor, or Cloud City, or Hoth, Han is not letting you near his prized posession.

I don't think anyone should ever say anything negative about Disney at all. If they do, they're wrong.

Yes. And I would stowaway on the Enterprise.

I pretend Attack of the Clones doesn't exist :D You should watch George Lucas vs The Fans, there are some VERY strong opinions, dare I say hatred out there from loyal SW original purist. Again It's their opinions and I'm fine with that, but when they try and change my opinion just cause, that's where I have a problem.

Okay, I didn't want to go to the video and give it clicks, but I did because I had to see who it was. That guy is one of the people who hates Disney and the sequel trilogy and complains about "SJWs" ruining Star Wars. So, his opinion is not surprising and I also wouldn't give it the time of day.

I am only a mild SW fan, and I agree the land lacks charm, maybe intentionally. The colors are kind of drab, it has a feeling of being a barren wasteland. Again I think that is what they were going for. There is not much to appeal to younger children. My 6 year old daughter wasn’t a big fan. Oga's isn't great for kids either. I do think it is aimed at adults, and even then only certain adults. Overall I liked it, but I like Pandora and Toy Story Land better. They are more colorful and interesting to me.

I saw some concept art for a theme park that incorporated a lot of the locations from the original trilogy, if I were to guess it would have cost like 10 billion dollars.
When I posted this I didn't realize that the vlogger linked here actually made a video about the concept art, lol.

Anyway, he seems really angry about the new trilogy and I hope he finds peace.

I was there on Monday night from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm and LOVED it. I could have spent hours and hours more there.

When I got home, my comment to my daughter was: "I now can definitely state that my life can be divided into two periods - my life before Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, and my life after."

It was life-changing when you see it in person.

To me, the most amazing thing was that when you stood inside SWGE you felt completely in an alien space - there was no sight line to Florida, to Hollywood Studios, or to Walt Disney World. It is completely immersive.

Life is a funny thing. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Not calling SWGE trash, but it goes to show you, you can have someone who hates something almost convince you not to try it and then you have someone who loved it convince you otherwise.

How often do you watch little kids? 😜

I think what a lot of people don't understand is that Disney wanted to create a land that not only makes you feel part of the story but doesn't mess with continuity (too much). They want you to feel like you're not just replacing or observing characters but actually are characters.

This has a tendency to backfire. It happened to Walt himself when he tried that tactic on the original fantasyland dark rides at Disneyland. You were supposed to BE Snow White, Alice, and Peter Pan, riding through your adventures. But guests didn't "get it" and kept asking where the characters were in their own rides. Eventually, they had to redo the rides and add the characters,

People want to SEE and interact with their favorites, not be them.

It's ridiculous that the only R2D2 in SWGE is a $25000 droid for sale that you can't get too close to in the droid shop.

It's also ridiculous that you ride the Millenuim Falcon and the animatronic welcoming you to the ride is some rando from Clone Wars. That isn't who most people associate with the Falcon.

I'm gonna take some hate for this and I'm cool with it but the people who hate (not dislike, actively hate) the new trilogy seem to be the crowd that also threw a fit over the new Ghostbusters, and any franchise that they feel like either rebranding to appeal to kids, or that they add a plot-important female character into (which makes you think hmmmmm I wonder why). I watched the old movies, I was also there at midnight at the theatre for the first prequel. You know, with the extremely long and boring podrace scene... and Jar jar, and god help me for saying this word... midichlorians.. There was also the special edition trilogy which... exists. I think nostalgia has given a lot of old school fans blinders on just how bumbling Lucas had become with his own franchise before it was purchased. Now there's people complaining about just about any little thing and I don't understand because after that first prequel I voiced my opinion by just not going to the other movies. I didn't rant or rave. I just decided meh, and watched other things. If someone doesn't want to go to Black Spire outpost it's so easy to just not go (Saves you money too XD). If someone doesn't like the new movies it's so easy to just casually say 'Oh, I only cared for the old ones' and no one would fault you for that. Just post that message once as an opinion piece then you move on and watch other things.

I just find it odd when people who don't like Disney's Star Wars movies, and don't like what they did with the park spend all day telling us about it. Yes, I get that you would rather have met Han and Leia. Maybe Rey isn't for you, she's for young little girls. Marketing to just oldschool fans would ensure stagnation. Then again, I am the toy expert and for every single Star Wars figure of even the classic variety that I sell I probably sell about 20 Marvel figures so maybe the franchise is just not a draw. Time will tell.

I think the simple answer is passion. When people are passionate about something, love it or hate it, they want to talk about it. I'm not in either camp. I've seen all the movies. Loved the originals, dealt with the prequels, and thought Last Jedi was an embarrassment. I like it, but I don't care what happens with it one way or the other. For me, it's less about SWGE and more about Disney.

Think that's one thing they definitely have to fix.

EDIT: just to add to this, there were plans to have droids roaming the area and that went down the tubes (temporarily?) because of liability concerns. It's something they need to figure out though.

Yes, exactly. I'm not personally a huge SW fan, so I am not gonna sit here and rant and rave about my opinion on the franchise. BUT, I am a HUGE lifelong fan of Disney parks and I will speak passionately about that. We have seen what WDI is capable of doing, both at domestic and international parks, and it just sucks when you feel like there was a lot of potential and then a land, or ride, or show falls flat. It has happened many times, and people get upset because we KNOW they can do better. Look at what happened with the entirety of DCA. The original concept for the whole park was a HUGE miss/flop. Everyone knew it. Disney knew it, but wanted to save face. 10 years later though, they made it right. It's still not perfect, but it is WORLDS better than what was there from 2001-2011. I'm sure plenty of people liked original DCA, but the overwhelming response was poor. It was not a popular park. The whole situation is made worse when you learn about the original plans and what was SUPPOSED to be built (Westcot). Hardcore Disney fans have been mourning that "loss" for almost 20 years now.

I think this land could have been SO good. I don't think it is, as it stands currently. Even when the other ride opens, it won't change that the LAND itself needs some serious help. I will not be surprised to see some retheming eventually. They have not yet begun to survey people about this land. I'm sure we will be seeing that soon, especially if the attendance numbers dip for a second quarter.
