Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Shopping and Merchandise: Savi’s, Droid Depot and More!

So the lightsaber I built at Savi's Workshop about a month ago it's malfunctioning. It's stopped making any kind of noise when moving, not the swoosh or the sound it makes when it hits something. It just make the same humm no matter what I do with it.

I don't live in California, well, actually I don't live in the USA.
I'm feeling pretty disappointed to have now a $200 broken "toy" I didn't even played with it.

What can I do?

Well, my lightsaber "suddenly" started working properly, but now is the blade the one with problems.
It seems that it has a lot of "dead" LEDs

I had the same "not working and started working again" experience.

My main complaint is that the droid nor the lightsaber come with any instructions of how to fix, troubleshoot, etc.

When we were leaving DHS (literarlly a few hours after building it and carrying it around all morning) .. we got to the car and I heard it make a electronic noise .. thinking that was odd and maybe bumping it on, I opened it and switched it on .. NOTHING. I panicked! Batteries can't be dead already. The metal pieces were loose so I took the bottoms off .. put them back on .. checked things .. nothing.

So . I proceeded to march back to the park while my family was going to go back to the hotel. Halfway back to the front entrance I heard the lightsaber make that "beep" again. Huh? I opened the case pulled it out .. turned it on .. and it was working? Wuh?

Do these have a sleep mode or something?

Our droid was the same thing .. was working fine at the hotel. We travel back home .. take it out of the box and the remote turns on, but the droid doesn't move. I opened the droid up (bb-8) .. checked the batteries -- flipped the switch off and on again and even hit the pairing button and voila .. it started working again. It was like it was in sleep mode or something as well.

Is there more detailed documentation for these things online?

Now that we’re several days into passholder previews maybe someone has an answer to this. I saw one person carrying a droid in a box over the weekend, and it looks too big to stow under your seat on a Star Tours flight. If it doesn’t fit under the seat are you allowed to keep it at your feet?

I'm curious about this as well. We have a FP for Star Tours after our droid building appt.

I can only talk about the droid, it does have a sleep mode, after 5 minutes of inactivity it goes to sleep. Now I have an R unit which has the off/ on switch at the bottom, the problem with the BB unit is that you have to open it to turn it off/on
the instructions are on the WDW site under droid depot
https://secure.cdn1.wdpromedia.com/...droid-depot/BB-8-Instruction-Sheet-064019.pdfI also received a paper for instructions for the R unit

That could be due to a low battery. Usually LED outages are the first sign of a dying battery.

I thought so too but I've tried fresh batteries and still happens. Still waiting for a solution from merchandise.guest.services@disneyparks.com

About the droids I had a problem with an R unit but "luckily" I noticed the problem the same day I built it.
One of the wheels stopped working and the droid kept running in circles. Could return to the park and they changed the unit.

Savi's question. The kyber crystal controls the color of the lightsaber, correct? So if I build a purple one, I could buy a green kyber crystal and then I could have a green lightsaber when I switch out the crystals? I can't decided between green and purple and this would make my decision much easier!

That is correct.

Word of caution for those building a power and control lightsaber. I built one and during the build process both hand grips and the activator plate had to be replaced 3 times because they would not tighten into one another. Finally a castmember was able to tighten it but as soon as I brought it back to my hotel room and touched the hilt it loosened immediately. I was constantly trying to screw it in but it kept happening. Brought the saber to the castmembers out front of the galaxys edge entrance and apparently this has been a common occurrence with the power and control sabers. They said the threading for this saber is very thin and not to over twist. This is a pain especially switching kyber crystal's or removing the blade. If anyone does get it I suggest immediately checking it afterwards just in case. I was nervous at first since previews were no longer happening and I would not be at disney for opening day. Castmembers were very helpful though and replaced all my parts and gave me a new blade as they also saw I had some dead LEDs in my blade.

Did the CMs have any suggestions if you encounter any problems after returning home?

Honestly, not really. They just cautioned me multiple times not to over twist the grips when putting it together. I don't think they were prepared for the issue, especially during previews.

I can vouch for this. Our power and control saber was hard to tighten and loosens easily.

Thanks! It’ll be interesting to see how they handle guest recovery regarding custom-built products that are already problematic during the preview period.

I’ll try searching the DLand board and I’ll ask when we are at DLand next week. 😊

I had a backpack and a rolling carryon. I shipped the "blade" via USPS Priority tube for $9.45, and put the droid and lightsaber in the backpack. TSA spent a little time inspecting the lightsaber, and one agent said the "blade" part may not pass if the x-ray showed any metal in it. I assume there wouldn't be any metal, other than conductive wiring.

Would love more info on shipping the Blade. Did you do this thru Disney at your resort?

I’ve read TSA has no problems passing thru the lightsabers but JetBlue can be a pain regarding the size, especially with a sold out flight. I’d rather ship it than have them take it from me at the gate and want to check it.

I too have a power and control lightsaber and had the same issues when constructing it. Was told of the very thin threads and cautioned to not over tighten. I’ve had it apart numerous times to change out crystals since getting it and it takes a steady hand to get it to go back together perfectly each time.

Yeah I was told as soon as you feel it lock just let go and dont twist anymore

We had the same issue. After the fix it does feels ok, but I am I do not feel confident in taking it apart and change the crystal etc.

Anyone been able to easily transport your droid home to Australia (or other Intl location)?
Is it OK to take as carry on luggage or does it need to be checked for international? Domestic USA looks ok as carry on based on other posts...

Hubby really wants one but concerned about getting it home to Australia!

I had a rental car, so I just drove to the nearest post office. It was maybe 10 minutes from Disney Springs. They had the tubes in stock, but I did have to request one as they do not have them in the displays of other priority mail boxes. FYI, all the priority mail boxes are included in the cost of the postage. So, essentially the box was free.
