Hurricane Dorian / WDW Theme Parks Discussion

Hello! Live in central canada, so I’ve never had to deal with hurricanes before. We were planning on flying to Orlando on Friday the 6th. Will the hurricane still be an issue or will we JUST miss it?

Too early to know. See the links on the first page and follow local to Orlando news outlets.

I wouldn’t change my plans yet, personally. The hurricane should be gone but it is possible that damage may persist in ways that make vacation inadvisable.

There are rides that close for heavy winds even if no rain (Rock n roller coaster comes to mind but I’m sure there are others), and it has happened that winds prevent fireworks, parades, and other outdoor events. I don’t think there’s one specific wind speed, I think it varies by attraction.

Since RNRC is all indoors, why would it close for winds?

New Orleanian here & I can’t agree more especially not a 4 or 5! And I was thinking it also puts an extra strain of FL’s resources. That has to be frustrating for FL officials.
YES!!!! New Orleans here also. And went through Katrina. The strain on Hospitals( I work in healthcare)!!!! The FLOODING in land! Tornadoes. It’s NOT just the coast. This storm could become huge and a Cat.4-5. And you want to go to WDW? I don’t get it. I’m assuming WDW will close. Because there putting STAFF in danger to stay open. There’s nothing fun about a Hurricane. Ask the ones that were at Hospitals when the levees broke after Katrina in New Orleans.

My great aunt was one of the elderly who died in a New Orleans hospital after Katrina. Big national news and law suit.

Just a reminder that this thread is on the Theme Parks Attractions and Strategies Board.

Discussion of the storm’s impact on the theme parks, tickets, WDW trip planning, how/if you are modifying your plans, options Disney is providing to folks, how to handle modifying plans, etc, are all welcome. This is information that is useful to folks as they determine what is best in their own individual circumstances.

This is not a thread for debating if a poster should or shouldn’t travel, storm strength predictions, or topics not directly relevant to the WDW theme parks.

Post #3 has links to various other threads on the DIS that have a more broad discussion focus.

Thank you.

I pray the front pushes Dorian out into the Atlantic. And my prayers are for all in its path. My friends from Orlando will arrive soon to stay with us. They of course are scared to death they will lose there house etc. And they are glad they left early. My friends lost everything when Hurricane Andrew hit Florida.😪😪😪

We are now officially at a Category 4

Wait 5 minutes!!!

The path and strength are changing every hour. It is still days away and nobody knows what is really going to happen.

By what I have been watching all day, the only thing I would almost guarantee at his point is lots of rain at minimum. That alone could cause a Disney vacation to be not as magical as planned. I also can safely say that by Thursday, the entire storm will have left FL. Beyond that, Sundays forecast of the storm may have a hint of truth. I wouldnt believe or panic over anything projected before then.

Not sure if this has been already mentioned but finally got through on the phone and was reassured that I can bring my dog to all star movies without any problems
What about cats? We haven’t booked anything yet because they don’t take cats normally but I would be very willing to leave tomorrow if they allow it (we’re on the east coast)

I don't know, you can check online, there's a lot if people canceling. Also the Rosen hotels are waving all pet fees so you could look into them as well
Okay thank you. Getting out of here tomorrow might be more of a pain than staying. It’s a hard choice to make
