Leaving your stuff behind in resort laundry rooms? Is this a new thing?

We saw this at the Beach Club laundry room earlier this summer.
A whole laundry table was taken up with leftover food containers, beverages, partially used sunblock products and several clothing items.
It looked trashy and left little room for the half dozen of us who were in and out trying to get laundry done.
Depending on my mood, I may have swept every single bit of it into the garbage.

We have seen items also left by the soda/ice machines. There is also a FB page ********* that people post what and where they are leaving certain items.

(Edited by moderator to remove name of FB page)

Folks, just a reminder that promoting or directing people to specific FB pages is not permitted on the DISboards.

I leave unopened bottles of water or unopened perishable food and the laundry items in my room, either for the mousekeeping staff or the next guests.
Perhaps Disney could provide donation bins, either in the laundrette or just outside for people to donate unwanted clean clothing they can't get into their luggage and donate them to local charities, locked so dishonest buggers can't swipe the donations. It will keep the laundry area tidy.

I understand leaving unopened water, lotions, etc.

I don't think people should be leaving unwanted clothing - a hotel is not good will. Find room to pack it. Bring an extra suitcase for souvenirs if it's really that much of a problem. :)

Just my opinion though and I certainly don't care enough that I would ever mention it in real life.

We usually have leftover sealed snacks and drinks that I offer to bell services during checkout. They've historically always been grateful to take them back to the bell services area for the employees to have. I'm talking small bags of chips, sealed drinks, stuff like that. Anything opened gets tossed in the trash.

We went for 4 weeks from the U.K., and inevitably ended up with more than we could take home, plus books, clothes etc that we wanted to donate. Bell Services at the Boardwalk were very happy to take the items and said they regularly pass on (non-food) items to local charities. I was so happy, as we had no car and I had no way of getting the stuff to a charity shop.

In reading this thread, I'm just wondering if it's possible my shoes that I left in my closet at Poly ended up being donated to charity. I did contact Poly the next day (we had switched resorts and were at YC when I realized my Keens got left at Poly) and they said they could not be found. But it seems like they'd hang around a bit before being donated? Just in case they were claimed by the owner. I filed one of those online lost and found reports and also followed up with 2 different CM's via phone calls. Everyone was very nice and easy to work with, but it's such a mystery as to what happened. Hopefully someone is happily wearing them who really needed them. Both of my DDs outgrew theirs, so I now have 2 "new" pairs and I'm fine with that. Just wish I could know for sure what happened to mine....

Wish I would have thought to check the laundry room my last trip. The sunscreen I brought was completely watery and no good.

Trashy indeed-but I can top that as I once saw a diaper change taking place on one of the laundry folding tables at POR!!!!

Needless to say our clothes were folded back in the room!!!!

I follow a WDW resort FB page were people post leaving things in the laundry room.
Recently I have noticed it has gone just from unopened items ( soda, water ,snacks etc) & the occasional stroller/hanger bag to include things that look like others have used them( suntan lotion, tubes of cortisone/anti-bacterial cream, cereal boxes ,etc.) . Sorry if I don't know you I don't want your leftover open items.
As far as clothing it might be something Disney may want to look into with Goodwill or some other charities. We donate used clothes to Goodwill and other charities at home so I am all for that idea. Not for us at WDW but thinking about visitors like those from the UK who are staying for weeks.

Lol, well I had no idea... looks like I should have checked the laundry room last trip before placing my prime now order 🤣

Edited to add: That is really helpful to know - last time we had leftover water etc and I assumed it would be thrown out if left in the room. Didn’t think about a possible drop off location or giving it to bell services.

Every day at POR on our trip in November, the laundry room by building 17 had stuff left there by guests. We got an almost full case of water one morning! Thought that was great considering how much bottled water costs and I do not drink the tap water in Florida lol. We had water for the room for the rest of our trip. Everything else was just things like glow sticks, organizers, hangers and laundry detergent.

Call me crazy, but to me the Laundry Rooms should be just for doing Laundry and not used as a free Flea Market.lol

Most Resorts have multiple Laundry Rooms,if this practice continues growing, maybe Disney should just change one Laundry Room in each Resort from a Laundry into a designated drop off/pick up station.

You crazy!

I don't think it is a 'growing problem' it's been going on for years. I really doubt you would see anything of use left for too long before it was yoinked anyway. No need to make this a bigger thing than it is, unless people start packing an extra suitcase for their goodwill donations to be left in the laundry rooms.

I was just at old key West Resort and I gave my downstairs neighbor 1 case of water that I had left over I saw them every morning so they were happy for it as far as other things went I got rid of them.

Have you heard anything about your shoes ? Disney (if things haven't changed since 2000.) will bring item to the lost and found and wait a while (was 6 months) and then all lost and found will go to a place called Property Control. Property Control is for cast members. It carries stuff that may have some damage to the item. (snow globes were placed here for air bubbles, I got a huge Eeyore stuffed animal that was missing an eye. All that stuff is 75 percent off the original price. You will also find lost and found that no one claims placed there. Cast members line up to wait for Property Control to open on the days when new items are delivered. I actually saw a cast member take stuff out of another cast members basket when I was at Property Control.
