Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Attractions Planning

I think they should install monitors along the queue explaining each position, we're being recruited to do a job but not given instructions in how to do it.
The CM's partly explained it, but they rather rushed through it.

I also felt sorry the CM at Hagrid's as she also had to repeat long loading directions over and over again to each new pair of riders.

I dislike too many signs, but in both cases, the masses need a little information so they know what to do, and they know the pilot ACTUALLY has an impact.

At this point, most folks likely don't realize a rough pilot actually = a rougher ride. On Mission: Space it doesn't matter what job you have; the ride is the same.

At present, rider choice only impacts a few attractions: the Dumbo style rides and the teacups, and for both of those, pre-riders get to see that before they board, if they watch the riders ahead of them.

I believe over head video is the best way, people have more time in the queue to watch, cm will be alleviated and non English speakers will be able to understand what they're doing.
My DD is one of very few cm that speaks Spanish and she gets called all the time to explain instructions

I wonder when/how they are going to resolve the issue I keep hearing about that younger kids (e.g., age 7) can't reach the controls. When I found that out I felt really bad both for my 7 year olds and whomever is unlucky enough to be seated with us with them as the pilot, since it sounds like they are assigning pilot to kids regardless of age.

My third time, the right pilot kept pushing the lever the wrong way despite people (her companions I think) yelling at her. :/ Getting off after a bad flight is amusing though! Especially if the cm greeting us comments on it.

HA ...............dont blame it all on the kids!!

On our last trip in the MF we had a older 60ish couple who were the pilots and had ZERO clue to what to do when prompted! It was so bumpy and if anyone who had a small issue with motion sickness would have been dead sick! It was to the point when it was time to go into light speed the other 4 of us had to yell "pull the lever!!" I mean the man should have picked autopilot as they truely had no clue what to do even after the cast member explained it to them 3 times! Maybe a better explination of what to expect and ones expectations, dunno but man that one ride stunk....

Old people, man. SMH.

We've long been in the habit of doing this at all the parks, i.e. arriving just after the stampede has left the gate. We get the benefit of nearly the full EMH, but minus the stampede.

Then again, if you aren't in the stampede...another strategy is to simply zig when everyone else zags. Whatever direction the hoard follows: do the opposite.

I agree with this in general but the exception can be if you really want to do the newest, hottest, most popular attraction in the park. For example, if you want to ride Flight of Passage with a reasonable wait, can’t get a FP for it, and can’t or don’t want to wait until park closing, joining the horde is your only real choice. With the normal one hour EMH, the horde goes right to that attraction and quickly pushes the wait time to an hour or more and it doesn’t come down from there for most of the day. The same has happened for Slinky and 7DMT and will undoubtedly happen as other new rides are added in the near future.

The 3 hour EMH looks like it might be different because the initial rush pushes the wait time up, but after an hour or so the posted wait time eases down as fewer people enter the line. For a normal 1 hour EMH, by the time the initial rush thins out the park is opening for everyone and people with FPs are joining in.

I have been watching the posted wait times for the Falcon ride for the last several days and so far the pattern has been the same every day. The wait time gets to 50-65 minutes pretty quickly. I have no idea if this is a real wait time because WDW always starts with long posted times at the most popular rides in anticipation of the crush. But, by about 7:30 the posted time drifts down to 30-45 minutes until the park opens for everyone a little before 9.

Maybe these wait times will increase significantly as crowds pick up from the post Labor Day lull, which was enhanced this year by Dorian. But for now I see no good reason to participate in the initial rush to Smugglers Run. I would enjoy Slinky, TSMM, RNRC, and TOT until 7:30 or 8:00 and then go to MFSR for a less hectic, and possibly shorter, wait. As long as that actual wait is anything less than an hour you can do every ride in the park by 9 AM and go from there.

you don't want to be an engineer (or as we called it, the 5th & 6th wheel) I have a tip...

When the CMs ask "any party of 2/3" etc...do NOT volunteer your group. It means they are filling in the remaining seats in the next flight which is the last two spots...the engineer spots. They fill pilots first then gunners for each group then engineers last. If you ride single rider you will be an engineer.

You don't always have the option of refusing to go. They ask your numbers at the start of the line, too, to get an idea of how to fill the ride. At best, this idea will work some of the time.

You can’t (or shouldn’t) refuse once they ask how many are in your group, but no need to volunteer if you don’t want to be engineer. I’d already figured that out and told mom we are never raising our hands when they ask for groups of two.

I’ve done each position once now, engineer twice. Gunner was a bit of a letdown. It’d be so much better with a joystick and targeting computer- ya know, kinda like the “real” ships. Of course, gunners are also never in the cockpit if it’s not a tiny fighter ship but I digress. I dunno, I wasn’t always sure what we were supposed to be shooting and it wasn’t always clear what effect my shooting was having. Does just holding the button down the whole time have an effect? That’s what I ended up doing. Piloting cause and effect is very clear. Hitting the big button while engineering has a clear effect. Maybe I just need more rides to get it. Until I do I’m certainly not trying manual target.

Can you request to be a pilot??? We're going to Disneyland in a few weeks and I've been watching the wait times at Galaxy's Edge and I've never seen it over 40 min during the week. I'm hoping to ride it numerous times. I told my wife, at the end of the week, if we get gunner spots, to go "Pew! Pew!" every time we fire, LOL :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I was reading the DLR GE thread a bit and it seems cm are a bit more lenient over there about requesting pilot. Here they’re supposed to always say no though theres been reports of exceptions being made. Maybe DLR is a bit more relaxed because its been open longer and its mostly locals...

Yes, you can request a position. We just got off after having ridden as pilots by request. We had a ride CM tell we could earlier in the day when we were gunners.

There was a family of 4 ahead of us and they asked us how many and I said 2...she was about to hand engineer cards to ride the the other family but I asked if we could wait to be pilots.

Note..its frustrating that your score and rep are contingent upon others performance, especially when they put you with little kids lol.

Rode 3 times as a single rider and was only assigned as engineer the first time. So you won’t necessarily be an engineer.

I love the ride! I do think they need some monitors in the Falcon to show which groups are ready to line up.

Is this really the case though? I have done the attraction about 7 times now, and been able to get 100% doing Engineer by hitting the correct buttons while I've had some horrible pilots.
And the gunner position basically scores in accuracy (I just put it on auto aim) and also by not pressing the button so much that you are wasting blasts

You now get a ranking on Smugglers Run. I’ve seen Marauder, and Pirate. What are some others people are getting?

That's the only 2 I've earned so far. Marauder is when you earn between 6000 and 7999 credits and Pirate when you earn 8000 to 9999 credits
ETA: Hot shot is 4000 to 5999 credits

Planning a short trip next summer and as DS and DH are big Star Wars fans, one of our days will be Hollywood Studios.

Are there only 2 Star Wars rides opened/opening? Or am I missing something?
  1. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (opened now)
  2. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (opening in Dec)

And if so, what is the feedback so far on #1? Is it a rough ride, or for all ages (and medical issues as I can't go on anything that accelerates or gravitational forces)

Yes, there are two attractions for the land, with one open now.

I have not yet experienced the Falcon but I hear it can be different depending on how well people in the crew do their jobs. I am sure many people will chime in with more info for you in that regard. :)

I think two rides is about all Disney will spring for in new lands. Haven't been. but I hear the one that's open is awesome.
