Disney's FORT WILDERNESS CABINS & CAMPGROUNDS Information & Questions

No car parking at the marina or pools. Tiny car parking lot at the meadows trading post for quick stops only. There is the internal bus to take you around if you choose to skip the golf cart. Some people also bring bikes to get around.
Thank you!

We have a trip booked in Jan 2020 and our travel trailer is gonna be a tight fit with 10 people (including 2 toddlers). We have a Premium Meadow Campsite booked and I wanted to know if I would be able to pitch a tent to save us some space in the travel trailer. The trailer itself is only 32 ft long so I know that there is room, but Ive heard that there isn't really a place to drive any stakes down for the tent itself. Has anyone ever attempted this? What are your thoughts/suggestions?

I haven't actually been to the Fort yet but we're going next year for first time in an RV. I have been watching some youtube videos just to get a feel for the place and I have seen people pitch a tent behind a trailer. The premium sites are longer so you should be able to it. I suggest searching Fort Wilderness campsites on youtube and just work your way through some. It's also a great way to get you in the Disney mood. lol

Question...

Does anyone know if the Minnie Vans pick up in the Trail's End/Hoop Dee Do area? Or do you have to take an internal bus to the front to catch one? My Mom and I are having dinner at Trails End in November and I really don't want to go the Boat/Bus route to get back to Pop Century.

The Minnie Vans do pick up at the bus stop near the stables in that area. However, if it is a busy time of the year, you can run into issues getting a Minnie Van at that location.

Thanks! Hopefully it won't be too bad that night.

I have a couple questions that have probably already been answered but I don’t have time to read so many posts, so if these have been answered recently, I apologize.
1. What do you do with luggage without a car? Will it get stolen?
2. How early do buses actually go to the parks? I especially want to get to AK 90 minutes or so early. Also do buses go to MK or do you have to take the ferry?

Not sure what you're asking exactly, but here goes. If you arrive via the Magical Express and have your luggage with you, you can put it in your cabin if it's ready or have Bell Services hold it until your cabin is ready. If you're talking the Magical Express and have them deliver your luggage, it will be delivered to your cabin once it's ready. If you're arriving via Uber/Taxi/etc and your cabin is not ready Bell Services will hold your luggage until your cabin is ready.

2. How early do buses actually go to the parks?

Buses start rolling every day at 6:30AM. The will start at 6:00AM if that park opens at 7:00AM.

Also do buses go to MK or do you have to take the ferry?

Yes, you can take a bus or the boat to MK.

I’m talking about the campsites, not the cabins.

Disney’s Magical Express

If your Site is ready when you arrive Bell Services can help you get your luggage to your Site. If it's not, you can leave your luggage with Bell Services until it is. In 30 years of traveling to WDW, I've never had an issue with anything being stolen from Bell Services.

The premium sites commonly have next to no, or no, dedicated space for a tent.
We have a 32ft travel trailer that we are bringing, not a large RV (as the Premium Meadow site is suited for). The extra room for a tent I was referring to was taking that in mind. Based off the videos that I have watched of that area, a small tent seems possible.

You just might need to figure out a way to hold the tent down without stakes as the pad is all pavement.

Yeah, my "next to no" meant next to no tent space that is not asphalt. Even self-supporting tents need stakes or guys of some type given the frequency of storms, or they can balloon away.

A little late to answer but .....

There is no DESIGNATED tent spot in any Premium site. However, tents are often set up in the dirt/area just off the pavement on any of the three sides. Of course, not all Premiums are convenient in that respect (trees, brush, fence, etc.). But people like you want to add a tent.

Call the Disney reservation number and ask to have a note/request added to your reservation (commonly done) that says something like "Guest also has tent" or something like that. That comment on your reservation will get passed to the Fort along with your arrival info a few days before arrival when preliminary site assignments are made. The CM making the assignments will attempt to accommodate your request (and they are pretty good about trying based on what they should have available the day of your arrival).

When you arrive, even with early on-line check-in and the ability to by-pass the lobby/front desk, if I were you I would still go in and check in face to face and ask if the site being given to you will handle a tent.

Last option if you get to your site and think it won't handle the tent, if there is an empty one or few nearby that will, call the front desk or go back in person and they will swap you over the phone if possible (again, it might be already "checked in" via the early on-line method and can't be swapped even if it is empty - happened to me).

Good luck.

Bama Ed

PS - you can include the size of your tent in the comment to if you wish. "10x12" for example. The more info you give the Fort, the better your chances of a good fit.

Thank you sir. I was hoping to get an answer from you specifically. I will call them tomorrow. Thank makes perfect sense. I knew I could fit one but I also knew that some spots were better than others. I really appreciate it. War Eagle
