Mickey Power!!! - July 2019 - Once Upon a Time When DHS Opened After Sunrise - 2/27

So back to the real world. Some of us were up and ready in time. The other one was ready at about 8:20.

I know how frustrating this can be. I'm a rope dropper if at all possible.

But today, that would not be the case.

:(

For the rush she was in to get out, she then took her sweet time standing there with the door open getting her bag out and situated. Meanwhile, it looked like the clowns arrived at the circus as about 12 people come pouring out the sliding door behind her. I’m still trying to get into my parking space while they’re basically standing all around our car getting their crap together.

They did this to you on purpose. Power trip.

They were in such a hurry that they didn’t care about inconveniencing anyone else. And they didn’t even take the time to turn the engine off.

Payback!

As soon as he told me that, I started laughing.

I would do the same.

After that fun, we headed up to the parking tram for a fun ride to AK. The CM on the PA system was actually trying to be engaging and entertaining. I almost wondered if she had been a JC Skipper at some point in time, but after the parking lot experience it was nice to kind of relieve some of the tension and smile a little bit.

I love hearing stories about great CMs.

Nice picture minus 1.

I’d been sipping on water from my bottle all morning and needed to top it off. I asked DW to get me an ice water while she was in there. She came back with a few of them. Unlike the other Disney counter service places that now give you a small cup, Starbucks gave her their big cups full of ice water. This was our find of the week and Starbucks became the place we’d look for when we needed ice water.*

*only if the line wasn’t stupid long, which it usually was.

Good tip!

The kids and I enjoyed our ride as B was actually smiling and having fun...

Yeah!!

He was still cranky and throwing a fit. The CM at the register was getting ready to check me out when another CM named Tony walked up and told her to stop. He grabbed a bar out of the cooler and walked around to the stroller. He kneeled down to R and started talking to him. He told him that he had a gift for him from Mickey and handed him the bar. R went from whining and crying to smiling almost instantly

What great Disney Pixie dust!

The CM at the register informed me that they can’t do that. I told him the CM in front told me we could. He was adamant that it wasn’t an option.

This doesn't sound right to me.

Maybe after some fries and getting off our feet in the AC, everyone would be in a better mood.

I sure hope so. We've eaten here the last couple of trips and have enjoyed the AC very much.

Karma. Definitely karma. I don't blame you at all for laughing.
I felt like it seemed appropriate.
That's awesome. I usually travel with a water bottle, and like getting it refilled with nice cold water from restaurants when I can, but that is over and above.
::yes:: The restaurants don't give you enough to fill a bottle anymore unless you get multiple cups. I liked getting a big one.
It was really awesome of him.
Um. I hope so? You are making me nervous...
Gotta get better, right?
Wow, an unbelievably frustrating start to the day! I would have laughed too that she left the car running.
I thought it was funny! I hate to wish bad on someone, but...
And then the issue at Flame Tree...ugh. Just not the best day so far. I hope it got better!
It was a rough morning, but at least there were some bright spots too.
How incredibly irritating! I'm sure it was more frustrating and less funny since you were already running behind and anxious, but good grief. :sad2:
Yeah, definitely more frustrating!
I know I shouldn't think that is funny... but that is HYSTERICAL. What karma!
I'm glad I'm not the only one...
It's so nice to come across a person like that when you're irritated - it really helps melt the frustration and gets you laughing instead of grimacing.
::yes::
What a mess! It's so frustrating when your plans don't go the way you expect (and even worse when even your revised plans don't work out either).
Yeah, it was just a chain reaction of events getting into the park that morning.
Good to know! Thanks for the tip!
The only time I'll ever recommend Starbucks.
That is wonderful! Thank goodness you had one shining happy moment that morning. You really needed that pixie dust! :goodvibes

It's amazing how a stranger can make an upset child suddenly calm. I still remember a visit to Costco where I saw a 4-5 year old little boy crying and whining in the cart while his mom shopped. An employee that was walking by handed the little boy a broken down (small) box he was carrying and said, "Hey there! Would you like to hold my box for me?" You'd think he'd been handed a plate of cookies or a new toy. He immediately stopped crying, held the box like it was gold, and gave a big smile to the employee. Special employees anywhere are awesome!

(This happened at least a few years ago, but made such an impact on me that I still remember it. It also pretty much made me a lifetime Costco member.)
::yes:: Small gestures like this can go a long way and certainly say a lot about customer service.
What a frustrating morning with your running behind schedule, the lady with the car, the long line at Na'vi River Journey, the frustration with obtaining rider swap for EE... no wonder you'd finally had enough! It's even more frustrating when you're given incorrect information that would've changed your plans to stand in line in the first place. I hope your lunch ends up working out (and that Restaurantosaurus had plenty of fries!).
The whole thing at Flametree really ticked me off. Being given conflicted and 100% incorrect information by at least 1 CM didn't sit well with me at all. I hope you don't have to deal with a picky eater in a few years.
Yikes, rough morning at Animal Kingdom. People are so self absorbed nowadays. How in the world do you just stand in front of a car and not move? Better yet, why in the world didn't that CM just go, "Step aside, please." :confused3
Although, them leaving the car running is a funny bit of karma. Like when a driver is being a total jerk on the road and five miles down the interstate you see them pulled over by a cop.
I know it's Disney and people's attention are focused elsewhere, but you still have to use situational awareness.
Exactly!
Aw, nice to hear of a sweet CM Disney magic moment. Definitely the thing you needed that day!
::yes:: For the rough spots we had that morning, there were definitely some highlights worth remembering and this was definitely one of those!
Hope the fries helped turn the day around for you all.
The parent life... crazy how big of a deal something like fries can be.

ikes! Not a great way to start the day..... :(
Not really...
Again....what in the world is wrong with some people??????
They are the center of the universe and we just exist.
I'm with you...I would have laughed too. Serves them right.
I just wished the fuel light was on.
Glad the safari was good!
::yes::
Perfect! Love that Disney magic!
That was much needed and definitely a highlight of our day.
That is awful..... hope you found food and the day got better!
Well, I don't know about good food, but fries. Gotta have fries!
Ugh a morning of ups and downs. I would have been frustrated at the fries situation too. Not sure what the big deal was about swapping the other sides for fries. Hope things cool off and you get back on track!
I mean it's fries... really. Stupid thing to get that upset over, but the fact that I was told one thing when I got in line and another at the register... just poor customer service on their end.
Sounds like such a rough day so far (with the exception of that magical moment from Tony). My family always struggles at AK as well! The last time we were there we joined a 25 minute queue for safari only for it to take 85 minutes! Needless to say my husband who isn’t fond of AK at the best of times was well and truly done by the time we were off the jeep :scared1:
Holy cow... That would not sit well at all.
I like a lot of the rides/shows but feel hard pushed getting there as we always seem to have a frustrating time with other people when we are there. Hoping some hot tasty fries turn your day around😊
That is pretty much how we feel about AK. There are plenty of things there that we love to do and see, but there's just always just something that makes it more of a "let's go to AK today and get it out of the way."
I'm all caught up! I can't believe how big your kiddos have gotten!!!
They grow fast, don't they?
I think most of us can relate to a day that is just frustrating all around and the heat certainly doesn't help. I'm sorry your day at AK didn't start out the best (and seriously what's up with that B in the parking lot?!?!) but hopefully it got better??
It was a bumpy start. The parking lot thing was just ridiculous.
You know where I experience road rage the most? Trying to navigate a shopping cart through Costco.
I've never been to Costco, but I think I know what you're saying.
That's fair. AK has really grown on me. It seems like my favorite park changes every time. It used to be Epcot. That was my least favorite on the last trip.
::yes:: It's hard to have a favorite.
Turn that frown upside-down, mister!
I'm trying! Really!
We had the same experience. Crawled along with a very long line of cars to the farthest parking lot in the complex.
I just don't get it? You don't run into that at the other parks. Well, aside from being sent to the farthest parking lot.
I love entitled people. How dare you attempt to visit the same theme park they were attempting to visit!
I should have hit her.
People suck.
::yes::
Heh. Karma. I'd have laughed too
:thumbsup2
Yeah...it's not worth that.
Not really... but it's something we can all ride and it was either wait in line or find something to do until our FP came up.
Sounds about right. I think the theming is great and FoP is amazing. But the movie wasn't all that.
::yes::
Good to know!
Only time you'll ever see any type of a recommendation for Starbucks from me.
That's weird. Why would they set it up that way?
I don't know. Probably to help with congestion at the entrance, which does make sense. They have it set up away from the entrance at Slinky Dog too, but it is on the bridge area that you walk across going to the entrance of Slinky Dog so it is harder to miss. I think the set up at EE makes it harder because as we approached, we were looking to the left toward the attraction and the DAS was set up to the right. It's pretty easy to get to and you can avoid the congestion if you know what you're looking for. We clearly didn't.
What are you looking at? The employee exit?
Trying to find where they left their tools so I could fix the Yeti.
Awesome CM to save the day
::yes::
Oh, come on, people. Get your act together!
Somebody doesn't know what they're talking about. I'd rather hear "I don't know" than misinformation.
That's pretty poor, though. Hard to make this work with contradictory information going around.
::yes::

I get it. I would do the exact same!
They deserved to run out of gas or have their van stolen.
It was one of the roughest starts to a morning we'd ever had. It felt like it was going to be a level 10 crowd that day when we were trying to get in.
This is what I wanted at Starbucks in AK in June. The employee acted like I was the worst person on earth for asking and wouldn't give it to me.
Really? Wow! I never went in myself, but DW stopped in there 3 or 4 times that day to get cups of ice water. She also used a snack credit to get some frozen something every time though so maybe that helped?
It was strange, but really if you knew what you were looking for (we didn't) its probably easier to get to as opposed to fighting the congestion near the entrance.
That's Disney magic! Just what you needed on this day.
::yes:: Definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
I would, again, have reacted the same way. Especially since you specifically asked and waited in line when you could've mobile ordered otherwise.
I know they're supposed to have an answer, but I'd rather here "I don't know" than be given inaccurate information.
Oh my goodness!! That's wild! People are nuts. Especially at Disney World.
Ain't that the truth!
This is a fair assessment, totally. I like Soarin' a lot, but I think the scene transitions are laughable, and I find it incredibly frustrating that you can only have a reasonably satisfying non-curved experience from the middle section (and even that's a little iffy.)
::yes::
Awesome! Good for them! Getting through a Disney day and behaving well can be a challenge for a lot of adults. :rotfl:
:rotfl2: You've got that right!
I mean, she's not wrong. I'm a big fan of AK, but the walking is pretty crazy and definitely inefficient at times.
::yes::
Oh my gosh!! :rotfl:
I refer to your comment above about people being nuts...
I think some of the CMs who work the tram, the ones who really give it their all, are seriously hidden Disney gems! Some of my favourite quotes from our last couple of trips have been from CMs on the tram. If it weren't such brutal work, especially out on the asphalt in the summer, and dealing with disgruntled people who want to get into/out of the parks, I would totally want to do this job.
That job really could be miserable, but she was having fun. I think she was talking on the PA pretty much non stop from the time we boarded to the time we got off. She was joking around with people, doing interviews, telling jokes. It was great!
Wow! That's so awesome! All it takes is that extra bit of time and pixie dust to really turn a moment around. And Tony is obviously a toddler whisperer.
::yes:: As rough as the morning was, it was great to have bright spots like this to remember and take away from it.
I would be FUMING. I don't blame you at all for your reaction. I hope the day started to turn around for you soon.
I hate getting conflicting information like that from 2 frontline CM's. And especially with as long as the wait tends to be to order there!
Hey Andy, I'm short on time for much commenting, but I just had to write a quick "I've been there" after reading your last update. I hate getting frustrated at Disney, but it happens. I hope the rest of the day went better.
Absolutely... gotta take the good with the bad. Fortunately, the good often outweighs the bad, but it helps if you can look back and laugh about some of it.
That is NOT a good name for this. Yikes!
:rotfl2:
This is hilarious!
I thought it was fantastic!
I love the name.
It's my mission to try to rename all slow moving boat rides as some derivative of It's a Small World. Mexico and Pandora make it easy.
Ugh, Gwen does this and it is so annoying!
::yes::
Ha! I hate the sizing names. I just say medium.
I couldn't even tell you their names. I have no idea.
I barely never see a stupid long line.
True.
::yes:: It was a much needed instance of Disney magic.
What a frustrating morning! I'm glad the CM had a little pixie dust in store. I'd be mad about the fries, too!
It was a rough morning with plenty of ups and downs. Obviously a very memorable highlight though!
I have to ask- what does DAS Cast Member mean?
Disability Access Service (I think). It is the CM that you visit if you have a disability of any sort that makes it difficult to wait in a long line. They then give you a FP to return at a later time based on how long the standby line is. In a lot of instances, the CM that did the DAS return FPs also issued the Rider Swap FPs.

Hey Andy, trying desperately to get caught back up and picking up here with abbreviated quoting. Forgive me. But I loved this chapter about my favorite park! I wish it had been a bit less.... frustrating at times for you.
I can hardly keep up myself!
Such a shame. ;) But you know me.... LOL!
::yes:: We all have our preferences.
Just. Wow. :sad2:
I should have ran her over. :rolleyes1
Nice!! Love this!
::yes:: As rough as the morning was, we did have a few stand out special moments to make up for it.
::yes:: At least in MK... we actually had some decent luck with that in AK. I think DW stopped in there every time we went past.
You could always get a job as a CM. ;)
Hey, sounds good to me!
Yeah, in that case probably best to just walk away.
::yes::
And also... the novelty wore off. I remember reading that Soarin' was the best ride in all of Disney. And perhaps it was for a while.
But newer things come along and the same crowd that was lined up for Soarin', then lined up for Frozen... then 7DMT... then SDD.... FoP… SWGE... you get the idea.
True.
Probably. I've never heard of that!
I mean it is Disney, but it is impossible to prepare drivers for any possible scenario taking place on a bus.
Oh sure... what could possibly go wrong????
I know, right?
Yeah, I can see that. Were you stamping your foot and pointedly looking at your watch/phone?
Something like that.
:sad2:
Some people are oblivious.
And some, @Captain_Oblivious , wear it like a badge of honor.
"Ma'am, would you mind looking indignant off to the side?"
Yep, horn works.
I'm not really surprised. There are lots of cars coming in. If he stays at one due to a relatively minor issue (maybe not to you, but in the grand scheme of things), then all the vehicles behind you will begin to pile up.
He could have at least said something before moving on. I mean they're quick to yell at you if you start walking down the row behind you instead of in front of you when you head to the trams.
"Oh, I know them. Or at least that type. Inconsiderate morons..."
:rotfl2:
I would've too! I mean... it's just so perfect!
::yes::
Oh, I hope not. I hope they came back, very, very late and extremely tired... and had to call for some gas... and then ran out before they got to a gas station.
That was my hope... maybe the fuel light was on this morning and in a few hours...
I'm not entirely sure if you're kidding or not.
Me neither. But it is plausible that the end of the line was clear across the park, so we'll go with it!
Right now (see above comment re Soarin'...) that's about as good as it gets for that ride.
::yes::
Many, many times.
They are what they are...
Dude! Kusafiri was right there!
Look, I didn't go into Starbucks and it wasn't my choice.
Good tip!
I rarely drink "just" water, but if I do...
:thumbsup2
Disney magic! You got some! You sure needed it this day.
::yes:: It was a rough morning, but at least there were some very nice highlights as well.
Sheesh... it's 4:45am and now I'm craving fries!
Me too. But it's almost lunch time.
:headache: D'oh!

This is a theory of mine. Since CMs are prevented from saying "I don't know", I think some just say what they think is right, because it's easier to give out potentially incorrect (but hopefully correct) information than to physically go and find out the right answer.
I don't like this at all. Honestly, I'd rather be told "I don't know" than be given misinformation. Being told something that is wrong doesn't sit well with me at all. I can forgive ignorance if it is admitted.
Gawd, I hope so. It's been a pretty rough one so far.
It has. There's been some good, but it has been a rocky morning.

I know how frustrating this can be. I'm a rope dropper if at all possible.
::yes:: Me too!
They did this to you on purpose. Power trip.
Seems to be. Should have used the bumper.
::yes::
I would do the same.
I thought it was hilarious. The other guy, he was judging me, I could see it in his eyes. Oh well.
I love hearing stories about great CMs.
I just enjoy seeing the ones that go above and beyond. You know they're "one of us" and that's why they're there.
Nice picture minus 1.
Thanks.
Good tip!
Worked out well for us! At least in AK.
What great Disney Pixie dust!
::yes::
This doesn't sound right to me.
It seemed pretty ridiculous to me... you offer them as a snack, but can't substitute a few fries for some beans and slaw?
I sure hope so. We've eaten here the last couple of trips and have enjoyed the AC very much.
It used to be Flametree every trip, but I guess Restaurantosaurus has become our AK go to lately, just because the kids will eat there.

A Surprise for the Kids!
We arrived at Restaurantosaurus after mobile ordering and quickly had our food. Finding a place to sit was another story entirely, because the place was packed! DW managed to find a table outside on one of the porch areas and L stayed to help me carry our food. I made a couple of trips to the condiment and drink stations to get everyone what they needed and we sat to enjoy our meal.
This was the first of multiple issues we experienced this trip with lid free cups.
R had a Sprite and he managed to knock it over, spilling it across the table and down the front of himself. He ended up not being too wet, but his legs and crocs were soaked. He flipped out. We ended up wiping him down as well as we could at the table, then I took him to the restroom to wash out his crocs and rinse the stickiness off of him better.
In hindsight, it probably was a good call to switch to Restaurantosaurus. The kids ate their fries and ate most of their chicken tenders so it was worth it to get something they’d willingly eat. R as usual was slowly picking at his food. While we were eating DW and I got a text from my mom.

As I mentioned before, they would be joining us for the last half of our trip. Mom bought B mermaid swimming lessons for her birthday and decided a week before our trip that she wanted to come and watch so they booked a trip. They planned to get to Disney World Tuesday evening, but they’d driven farther than they expected Monday night and by the time we were eating lunch, they were just about to Disney World property. We didn’t tell the kids, but mom said they were going to get checked in and meet up with us at AK.
While R was still eating, the older 2 were asking what we’d ride next. I asked DW if she wanted to ride Dinosaur... if she did, we’d wait for R to finish eating and go get RS. If not, I was going to take L and B to get in line while he finished his meal. She didn’t want to ride, so off we went.
I believe this is the first time B has ridden it. She was a little bit scared, but she said she enjoyed it after we got off. I don’t think she’d have rushed back on though if DW had taken me up on that RS. L loved it though, because Dinosaurs.
48803279976_2dbd6c7738.jpg
The only priority DW had for our day was seeing the Lion King show, so we headed across the park.
We stopped on the way for a picture at the Tree of Life. This time, B was in a more agreeable mood and joined us.
48802931348_ce46eaa618.jpg
We stopped by Starbucks once again for the big cups of ice water. I got another text from mom and she said they were at CBR but their room wasn’t ready so they were going to get on a bus to head to AK. I let her know we were getting ready to go into the Lion King show and could meet up after.
The show was good, as always... I think it is DW’s favorite in all of Disney World. The kids enjoy the music and the dancing so it was nice to be able to sit and relax without worrying about it keeping their attention.
48803420682_c2427bf433.jpg
48803280591_724883ea42.jpg
We exited the theater and went to get the stroller. Right around the corner from the stroller parking area, Mom and Dad were sitting on a rock. The kids had no idea they were there, but B was the first to see them. She screamed and ran straight over for hugs.
48802931858_c6c04ba603.jpg
We just sat and chatted for a little bit, but they hadn’t had lunch yet and dad wanted to find a snack somewhere. We headed over to the Harambe Market to see if we could find anything they wanted. Dad didn’t see anything that interested him there. He said he just wanted a hot dog or something. I remembered seeing a hot dog cart on the way into Pandora. Our next FP was there so we headed that direction.
We found a hot dog and some chips for dad and then found him a spot to sit in the shade in Pandora. Mom and Dad didn’t have FP since they booked their trip so late. It worked out great though. Dad can’t ride FoP anyway due to motion sickness. I had 2 of Ryder’s old magic bands in my park bag just in case he did lose his. Since we booked him on all of our FP, I gave mom one of his extra bands. We wanted to let L & B ride twice, so Mom and I went to ride with them while DW took Ryder and got RS.
The ride was fun. Again, Avatar just isn’t an IP I’ve bought into fully. The ride is well done, and it is impressive, don’t get me wrong. I think it is a must do. But I’d still call Everest my favorite attraction in AK. I just prefer real motion and movement to screen based movement.
We got out and the kids were excited to go again. They hopped back in with DW while mom and I waited with R and Dad. R seemed pretty excited to see them too, so it made waiting a lot easier. He was more content when he had 3 laps to hop between.
Having accomplished our goals for AK, we were ready to get some dinner and call it a day. I was really hoping to go to Satu’li Canteen as it is another of my favorite QS places in Disney World. However, once again, I was overruled. The kids weren’t really liking anything on the menu.
Instead we chose Pizzafari.
At this point, we separated from Mom and Dad. They wanted to try to do a few more things in AK before they left since they had just arrived. They ended up riding Nav’i River Journey, Kilimanjaro Safari and then had dinner at Flametree before returning to CBR that evening.
I didn’t hate the idea of going to Pizzafari, honestly. We’d never been there before, and I don’t absolutely hate Disney pizza. No, it isn’t the best, but I don't think it is terrible.
We mobile ordered, and consistent with our experience, our food was ready almost immediately. DW and the kids found a table while I got our food. R had his usual mac & cheese and he was really being a slow eater. The rest of us quickly ate our food and we spent quite a while waiting on him to finish up.
The pizza was fine. I don’t know if they’re cutting back on the size or if it is just me, but most Disney meals have plenty of food. More than you really need to fill you up. I have been trying to be better about watching what I eat and cut back the past few years so my appetite isn’t even what it used to be. But I had my salad and pizza and I was still hungry. This has been the case the last 2 times I had a Disney QS pizza. I started picking at crust and scraps of anything the kids had left.
After waiting for R to eat, we finally just decided to go. We took his mac & cheese and put it in his cupholder on the stroller so he could eat while we walked. DW and the kids decided to take the tram back to the car, but after folding the stroller and dealing with it poking me in the leg that morning, I decided it would be easier to walk so R and I took off to meet them there.
DW got this picture of the older 2.
48802932048_971aaf2aa4.jpg
And I took this picture.
48802932393_8e3a7de40d.jpg
See that puddle of condensation underneath the tailpipe at the back of that van? This was about 9 or 10 hours after our frustrations in the parking lot that morning.
The van was still running.
Now I really thought it was funny!
I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t. I didn’t touch it, obviously, but let me tell you the temptation to move it to a random parking spot clear on the other side of the lot might have popped into my head.
We got out of there and headed back to the room. The kids wanted to swim but DW didn’t so I took the kids and went to the pool. L & B were having a blast going back and forth between the slides. R was loving the zero-entry part of the pool where he could stand and splash around. I took him to the kids splash pad area, but he didn’t care much for that (and the water there was a lot colder!)
We spent quite a while out at the pool. We were out there late enough that I was leaned back against the edge, sitting in the water with R watching the fireworks from Illuminations. For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.

Oh dear! Yeah, I'm all for limiting plastic where it's feasible, or finding alternatives that work well. And leaving off the lids for grown adults who can [probably? sometimes?] handle that makes sense to me. With kids? Absolutely does not seem like a good idea to me.

L loved it though, because Dinosaurs.

Naturally.

We stopped on the way for a picture at the Tree of Life. This time, B was in a more agreeable mood and joined us.

48802931348_ce46eaa618.jpg

This turned out great! Pretty good looking family you've got there!

Dad can’t ride FoP anyway due to motion sickness.

Your dad and I have this in common.

But I’d still call Everest my favorite attraction in AK. I just prefer real motion and movement to screen based movement.

Agreed! Doesn't help that the screens exacerbate my motion sickness, but even if that weren't the case I don't find them as fun or interesting.

See that puddle of condensation underneath the tailpipe at the back of that van? This was about 9 or 10 hours after our frustrations in the parking lot that morning.

The van was still running.

Now I really thought it was funny!

Oh my good gracious!

I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t. I didn’t touch it, obviously, but let me tell you the temptation to move it to a random parking spot clear on the other side of the lot might have popped into my head.

:rotfl:

Probably for the best...but part of me wishes you had!

We spent quite a while out at the pool. We were out there late enough that I was leaned back against the edge, sitting in the water with R watching the fireworks from Illuminations. For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.

That sounds lovely! It's those simple moments that can sometimes be the ones we remember most. Definitely sounds like a good way to turn the day around. Couple that with your parents showing up and surprising the kids, and it sounds like there were definitely a few good moments in this day.

As soon as he told me that, I started laughing.
I love it! That's called karma :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We rode the ride, it was fine. I don’t know. I’ve never been a big fan of the Avatar film and this land, as impressive as the theming may be, just doesn’t do that much for me. This is something that I’d probably be ok waiting 15, maybe 20 minutes for. It’s definitely not something I’d want to wait 40-ish minutes for, but it is one of the few things we can all ride and R seemed to like the boat rides, so it was worth doing.
I agree, I honestly still can't believe the waits are still this long for the ride.

We then switched off. I took R and DW went to ride. I’m not sure what it was, but he was being a total momma’s boy and as soon as she left, he had a complete meltdown. It was getting hot and he likes popsicles. There was an ice cream cart nearby so I took him over to get an Olaf’s Lemonade Strawberry Bar.
I mean, sounds like a great plan to me.

He told him that he had a gift for him from Mickey and handed him the bar. R went from whining and crying to smiling almost instantly
How sweet, I'm so glad it worked to calm him down. We had a very similar experience one time, and it really is that extra special touch of Disney magic.

I was mad. Again, it wasn’t the smoothest morning. The accumulation of small frustrations was getting to me. Flametree is one of my favorite QS places and I was craving some BBQ. But I didn’t want to say the words that were starting to pop into my head so I just turned around and walked away from the register.
You know what, you could have been the person that just blew up, but you didn't. Your frustration was warranted, but good for you for keeping cool and just walking away.

The show was good, as always... I think it is DW’s favorite in all of Disney World.
That's because DW has great taste, it is the best show.

We exited the theater and went to get the stroller. Right around the corner from the stroller parking area, Mom and Dad were sitting on a rock. The kids had no idea they were there, but B was the first to see them. She screamed and ran straight over for hugs.
So cute, and what a happy surprise for them.

DW got this picture of the older 2.
:lovestruc
I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t. I didn’t touch it, obviously, but let me tell you the temptation to move it to a random parking spot clear on the other side of the lot might have popped into my head.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Is it evil that I really wish you did do that. Either way, the van running for hours, it hilarious and I hope drained much of their gas.

We spent quite a while out at the pool. We were out there late enough that I was leaned back against the edge, sitting in the water with R watching the fireworks from Illuminations. For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.
Sometimes those evenings at the pool can do wonders. I am glad you were able to turn the day around.

I mean it is Disney, but it is impossible to prepare drivers for any possible scenario taking place on a bus.
Very true.
And some, @Captain_Oblivious , wear it like a badge of honor.
I was wondering if you'd go there. I certainly left the door wide open for you. You just had to walk through. Glad you did.
He could have at least said something before moving on. I mean they're quick to yell at you if you start walking down the row behind you instead of in front of you when you head to the trams.
Good point. "Ma'am! You'll have to move out of the way!"...
That was my hope... maybe the fuel light was on this morning and in a few hours...
::yes::
Look, I didn't go into Starbucks and it wasn't my choice.
Okay, okay.
I don't like this at all. Honestly, I'd rather be told "I don't know" than be given misinformation. Being told something that is wrong doesn't sit well with me at all. I can forgive ignorance if it is admitted.
Yeah. This was not what Walt meant.

We arrived at Restaurantosaurus after mobile ordering and quickly had our food. Finding a place to sit was another story entirely, because the place was packed!
That's one place that's on my list (for a burger) but I have yet to set foot in.
This was the first of multiple issues we experienced this trip with lid free cups.
Okay! I thought it was just me. "Can I have a lid?" "We don't have lids"
All I could think of was "There's gonna be a lot of spillage going on..."
Yeah... could almost see that one coming. :sad2:
Mom bought B mermaid swimming lessons for her birthday
Ah! I remember that.
I believe this is the first time B has ridden it. She was a little bit scared, but she said she enjoyed it after we got off.
Good for her. :)
L loved it though, because Dinosaurs.
But of course.
You don't look so thrilled. Or were you having fun just looking cool for the camera?
We stopped by Starbucks once again for the big cups of ice water.
Taking advantage of that new knowledge, I see. :)
The show was good, as always... I think it is DW’s favorite in all of Disney World.
It's a very good show. But... my new fave is Frozen Sing-a-long. Dang that was funny.
Mom and Dad were sitting on a rock. The kids had no idea they were there, but B was the first to see them. She screamed and ran straight over for hugs.
Awww. :)
We headed over to the Harambe Market to see if we could find anything they wanted. Dad didn’t see anything that interested him there.
Not surprised. I don't know about the new menu items, but the old ones... :sad2:
The ride was fun. Again, Avatar just isn’t an IP I’ve bought into fully. The ride is well done, and it is impressive, don’t get me wrong. I think it is a must do. But I’d still call Everest my favorite attraction in AK. I just prefer real motion and movement to screen based movement.
I hear you. I think FoP is stunning, but... I'm not sure if it edges out real motion.
Certainly not if you've been on the new Hagrid's ride at Universal.
I was really hoping to go to Satu’li Canteen as it is another of my favorite QS places in Disney World. However, once again, I was overruled. The kids weren’t really liking anything on the menu.
Again, not really surprised. It must've all looked pretty intimidating.
Instead we chose Pizzafari.
oh, dear
At this point, we separated from Mom and Dad. They wanted to try to do a few more things in AK before they left since they had just arrived. They ended up riding Nav’i River Journey, Kilimanjaro Safari and then had dinner at Flametree before returning to CBR that evening.
they got quite a bit done!
We mobile ordered, and consistent with our experience, our food was ready almost immediately.
::yes:: I've only done that 3-4 times, but... it's great.
I haven't had Disney pizza in quite a while. But not overly surprised. If memory serves, the pizzas weren't all that big back then either (at least there and at the now gone Pizza Planet)
DW got this picture of the older 2.
See that puddle of condensation underneath the tailpipe at the back of that van? This was about 9 or 10 hours after our frustrations in the parking lot that morning.

The van was still running.
YESSSSS!!!!!
I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t. I didn’t touch it, obviously, but let me tell you the temptation to move it to a random parking spot clear on the other side of the lot might have popped into my head.
I might've been tempted to open the door enough to look at the gas gauge... but wouldn't have moved it. Not a bad idea. I guess you're just a wee bit more evil than I am!
L & B were having a blast going back and forth between the slides.
:) Sounds like a pretty good time was had.
We spent quite a while out at the pool. We were out there late enough that I was leaned back against the edge, sitting in the water with R watching the fireworks from Illuminations. For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.
Not. Too. Shabby. :)

What a frustrating morning. Some people are so annoying at Disney.

I laughed about the van running :hyper:

I hate when one CM says something and further down the line the next one says something completely different. I would have left Flame Tree as well.

I’m glad you enjoyed FOP, I really like it. Of course I get nervous and a sore neck on EE so this is not my favorite.

I bet your kids were happy to see their grandparents!

I think some places at Disney are serving smaller meals now.

The pool time was a nice way to end the evening and yay to the pixie dust from the CM who helped make your little guy happy!

What a nice ending to your day! The van running - their day won't end so well :worship: I bet your parents loved that the kids were so happy to see them. I love it when my grandkids are excited to see me - that may not always be the case. Hope your next day starts out smoother - I'll watch for an update!

I hate the drinks without lids!!! Sorry R ended up spilling :(

Sounds like a good afternoon at AK! I'm glad your parents got there early and the kids were excited to see them!

That's a great pic of the older 2 holding hands!

The car was still running! :rotfl: That's hysterical. Karma, baby.

Sounds like a nice ending to the day. Glad it turned around for you!

And some, @Captain_Oblivious , wear it like a badge of honor.

Huh? Whadja say?

R had a Sprite and he managed to knock it over, spilling it across the table and down the front of himself. He ended up not being too wet, but his legs and crocs were soaked. He flipped out. We ended up wiping him down as well as we could at the table, then I took him to the restroom to wash out his crocs and rinse the stickiness off of him better.

Ugh. I see the joy of the day is continuing.

We didn’t tell the kids, but mom said they were going to get checked in and meet up with us at AK.

Cool!

I believe this is the first time B has ridden it. She was a little bit scared, but she said she enjoyed it after we got off. I don’t think she’d have rushed back on though if DW had taken me up on that RS. L loved it though, because Dinosaurs.

Nice job. It took me several trips before I got my kids to go on that one.

The show was good, as always... I think it is DW’s favorite in all of Disney World.

Lion King really is a great show. And I'm not much for the shows when I could be on rides instead.

The kids had no idea they were there, but B was the first to see them. She screamed and ran straight over for hugs.

Awesome! Glad they pulled it off.

I agree on all counts. I love FoP, but will always take a coaster over a simulator.

I didn’t hate the idea of going to Pizzafari, honestly. We’d never been there before, and I don’t absolutely hate Disney pizza. No, it isn’t the best, but I don't think it is terrible.

It's fine, if totally unmemorable. I still haven't had a bad meal at Disney.

Awww...

See that puddle of condensation underneath the tailpipe at the back of that van? This was about 9 or 10 hours after our frustrations in the parking lot that morning.

The van was still running.

Now I really thought it was funny!

WOW. That's just...perfect. I wish you could have stuck around to see the look on their faces.

I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t. I didn’t touch it, obviously, but let me tell you the temptation to move it to a random parking spot clear on the other side of the lot might have popped into my head.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.

Thank goodness. I'm glad you were able to rally to end the day.

We exited the theater and went to get the stroller. Right around the corner from the stroller parking area, Mom and Dad were sitting on a rock. The kids had no idea they were there, but B was the first to see them. She screamed and ran straight over for hugs.
That's awesome! What a fantastic memory your kids will have.

I was really hoping to go to Satu’li Canteen as it is another of my favorite QS places in Disney World. However, once again, I was overruled. The kids weren’t really liking anything on the menu.
I had also wanted to go to Satu'li but the picky eaters in my family thought the menu looked "weird" so they passed in favour of chicken nuggets somewhere else. Sigh....

I didn’t hate the idea of going to Pizzafari, honestly. We’d never been there before, and I don’t absolutely hate Disney pizza. No, it isn’t the best, but I don't think it is terrible.
That's about my thoughts. It's edible. Having said that,. I don't remember the last time I had Disney quick serve pizza.
I was pleasantly surprised by the Pizzafari family style dining on my last trip. It was very different pizza than the usual QS stuff. Closer to Via Napoli (not as good, but closer).

I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t. I didn’t touch it, obviously, but let me tell you the temptation to move it to a random parking spot clear on the other side of the lot might have popped into my head.
Oh man, I probably would have had the same thought. But I wouldn't have done it.
I guess they got what they had coming to them.

DW managed to find a table outside on one of the porch areas and L stayed to help me carry our food.

No AC. Bummer

This was the first of multiple issues we experienced this trip with lid free cups.

I'm not looking forward to this.

In hindsight, it probably was a good call to switch to Restaurantosaurus. The kids ate their fries and ate most of their chicken tenders so it was worth it to get something they’d willingly eat.

It is a good choice for kids. I know your kids like chicken tenders at Disney.

We didn’t tell the kids, but mom said they were going to get checked in and meet up with us at AK.

I love surprise visits.

Are you taking a nap?

Nice picture.

Mom and Dad were sitting on a rock. The kids had no idea they were there, but B was the first to see them. She screamed and ran straight over for hugs.

Great reaction;

Having accomplished our goals for AK, we were ready to get some dinner and call it a day. I was really hoping to go to Satu’li Canteen as it is another of my favorite QS places in Disney World. However, once again, I was overruled. The kids weren’t really liking anything on the menu.

Poor Andy, always getting overruled.

DW got this picture of the older 2.

AWWWWWW.

The van was still running.

:rotfl2:

I walked around looking to see if it was locked, and it appeared that it wasn’t.

I can't believe it wasn't taken.

We spent quite a while out at the pool. We were out there late enough that I was leaned back against the edge, sitting in the water with R watching the fireworks from Illuminations. For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.

Perfect ending to your day.

Poor R! They definitely need lids for kid's drinks!
So exciting! Such a great surprise for the kids!
The show was good, as always... I think it is DW’s favorite in all of Disney World. The kids enjoy the music and the dancing so it was nice to be able to sit and relax without worrying about it keeping their attention.
One of my favourites too!
See that puddle of condensation underneath the tailpipe at the back of that van? This was about 9 or 10 hours after our frustrations in the parking lot that morning.

The van was still running.

Now I really thought it was funny!
That's the best.....karma is awesome!
We spent quite a while out at the pool. We were out there late enough that I was leaned back against the edge, sitting in the water with R watching the fireworks from Illuminations. For the rough start we had that morning, it was a pretty cool way to end the day.
Perfection! :goodvibes

Mental note: bring a lidded cup to AK for the kid. (That shouldn't be a problem as we're a ways away from a lidless cup. I think!) Aside from that, I'm glad the meal was agreeable to everyone!

What a great surprise that your parents had arrived! Your kids, and in particular your daughter, look SO HAPPY in your picture!

I'm glad M will be along for the ride for the meals on this trip as I REALLY want to try Satu'li Canteen!

:rotfl: That is HYSTERICAL that their van was still running! It was probably good that you didn't move it (although the thought is pretty comical!), just in case they happened to return at the same time and got you arrested for auto theft. That would've been a bummer!

It appears that you also have a City Mini stroller - would you happen to know which rain cover you use? The reviews for the City Mini branded ones are terrible so I'm not excited about dropping $40 to get one. I found a cheaper universal rain cover on Amazon with good reviews, but I'm unsure if it will survive the crazy Orlando downpours!

What a fun surprise! The kids looked so happy to see your parents.
sorry your food choices kept being vetoed!
So fun to see fireworks from the pool!
