It depends on where you are on the Royal Rooms, but IMO none are crazy far. I purposely booked a pool view RR for like $3 more a night so I knew I would be really close to the bridge to the main building, and that was a great location. If you are a different view, you could request close to that bridge. I can't answer about which rooms are close to the bus stop in that area, but if you look at the map or on portorleans.com (I think that's the site, unless it's .org. It's the site referenced here frequently) or touringplans you could see which rooms are close to that stop. We prefer close to the main building amenities, and often used that bus stop as well.

We just finished our second stay at POR, this time staying in Alligator Bayou (last time was a Royal Room). Family consensus was we liked the mansions better than the bayou. The room upgrades were awesome, the lack of theming is more than overcome with the functionality. We were in building 39 which was reasonably well located to the pool and west bus stop (caught a bus once from north but was already crowded). The west stop was useful being first pickup - it meant a tour of the resort but at least we had a seat.

We had a couple of meals in the food court which were adequate at best, also had lunch at POFQ and all thought the food and setup was much better there. The POR pool was terrific, warmer that I remembered from last trip.

Yes will probably use that bus stop cause will stop to get coffee in the morning and be closer to that stop..

Can anyone help me figure out where the Garden view 5th sleeper rooms are compared to the main pool and the main building.

Thanks!

check out portorleans.org. I thought they had an interactive map, but couldn't find it offhand, maybe it's there and I was looking too fast. But here's what they say about that room type.

NEW
Garden View — Fifth Sleeper: This category is new for Port Orleans Riverside in 2019 and regardless of your party size it will guarantee you a room in the Alligator Bayou section with an extra fold-down bed. These rooms offer pleasant views of the bayou, gardens or trees — but NOT of the parking lots. 2017 prices vary seasonally from $226 to $330.

All of the "Garden View 5th Sleeper" rooms at Port Orleans Riverside are in the Alligator Bayou section. All buildings in Alligator Bayou, except buildings 14, 15, 18 and 27, have Garden View category rooms. The Magnolia Bend section of Riverside also has Garden View rooms, though not "5th Sleeper". No buildings with Garden View rooms are in the immediate vicinity of the main pool and the main building, though some are further than others. Alligator Bayou rooms (except the King rooms) can all sleep 5 if you count the small fold-down bed.

In the past and at no extra charge, Disney automatically put parties of 5 in Alligator Bayou rooms that have the fold-down bed because they are the only rooms that officially may sleep 5 guests, but Disney found a way to charge more for its Garden View rooms in Alligator Bayou by creating the "Garden View 5th Sleeper" category (parties of 5 still get put in the same types of rooms as before this category was created, but it allowed Disney to create a higher-priced category). The "5th Sleeper" categories are also a way for parties less than 5 to guarantee themselves a room in Alligator Bayou if they so desire. You may find the following web pages useful:

My only complaint is about food. Boatwrights was the worst meal I've ever had on property and possibly one of the worst meals I've ever had period. The food court at both Riverside and French Quarter were meh at best. I was excited to try the new larger beignet stand for the first time, but thought the beignets were absolutely disgusting. Given the shape and size, they were more like gross zeppole than anything approaching a New Orleans beignet. Disappointing. Given the quick boat service to Disney Springs though, I can deal with the food being less than stellar.

I've heard that a lot about Boatwright's. We've stayed at Riverside a few times but have never eaten there. It looks nice, and is certainly convenient, too bad the food isn't good.

Relatively speaking we didn't MIND the food court, however we usually only go there for a quick breakfast or snack. The thing that I don't like about the food courts in general is I never feel comfortable and they always seen chaotic. I'm not a fan of getting on one or more lines to get your food, another line to pay for your food and then looking for a table and then dealing with lines for drinks. Too much work...

We loved the beignets at the French Quarter, the one time we had them last March, however we've never had a REAL New Orleans beignet, so we have nothing to compare them to.

We didn't mind the food court at all, however we usually only go to there for a quick breakfast or snack.

I’ve only eaten at Boatwrights once despite many POR stays, we are there last New Year’s Eve and I thought it was quite good. Much better than I expected because it doesn’t have a great reputation. I also have always liked the Riverside Mill food court and the beignets at FQ, but I also have never had a “real” one. We also got the Glute Free beignets, and thought they were not good, despite their good reputation :confused3

Hi folks! DH and I are unexpectedly staying at POR for two nights in January after my first and second resort choices were already booked up. We are excited to try a new resort! DH’s one request was that we don’t have a long “commute” to the parks. I didn’t tell him just how big Riverside is :rolleyes1 We booked a standard King room. There are so many room types at this resort that I am confused about what building to request. The most important thing will be minimizing bus stops on the way to the parks. Any suggestions? We don’t care about pools or the view - just want to get to the parks ASAP each morning!

If you have a King Bed room booked, ask for building 14 or 15 as they are the closest to the main building and the final bus stop before the buses head off to the parks (South Depot). Building 18 is not bad too.

If you want to get a seat on the bus, you want to be at the first stop, the west bus depot. Building 34 is a very short walk which we appreciated in the evening. 24 looks like it's close as well. We were there two weeks ago and it was not uncommon for the bus to be standing room only by the time we got to the fourth stop at the lobby.

Nope just standard drinks. From memory there was diet (and/or zero), cherry and regular coke, root beer, hi c, lemonade, sprite, Fanta. I di hear freestyle machines are at French Quarter.
Riverside also has Caffeine Free Diet Coke, one of the few places that does.

Questions about room refurbishments at POR....

We have stayed here many times but not lately because the "Free Dining" didn't include Port Orleans. We stayed the last couple of trips at Coronado Springs after their room redos. Wow, the bath, shower, room and carpet removal were all wonderful. Last month, we reserved POR for next September and wondered exactly what POR rooms are having done to them? On a side note, in all of our stays at POR we have always been in the mansions.

TIA

I believe all of the beds and bedding were redone. The curtains all looked new and the flooring is all laminate now. They added a bunch of USB outlets. Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of the room but Port Orleans.org has more details. I thought they did a good job. The beds are high enough that you can stash your suitcases under there so the room never felt cluttered.

What building would be fairly close to the west depot and not too far from the food court? DH can't walk long distances and would need to sit rather than stand on the bus. But I don't want too far of a walk to the food court. Any suggestions?

Hi All! Thinking about switching our OKW ressie to POR to save (a lot of) money. I was looking at the room views on TP and fell in love with the pool view from building 18! TP has it listed at "Preferred" view, but on unofficial POR site (link below) it says "Swimming Pool" view. Can anyone tell me which it is? Thanks!

The unofficial site is right. A room can only be one category so if you are booking a pool view room then it can be in many buildings. If a preferred building has rooms that are pool view then a person who booked a pool view room can end up in a preferred building.
We had booked a king room and were given building 14, which is a preferred building.
