A Salute to all things Disney, but mostly Magic Bars; a July 4th 2019 TR*update 11/28 new TR link!

How was everyone's Halloween? We had kind of crappy weather so we had ZERO trick or treaters.
Ours was a bit cold. It snowed a bit. I thought that would lessen the numbers, but we had about the same this year as last few years.
I do have too much candy left now!
Oh, no. The horror. Whatever will you do????
450567
Anyone want one?
Yes! Me!
we were the lucky ones though because it started pouring about a third of the way through their walk.
"And there was much gloating..."
if staying in bed is an option Chris picks it!
:rolleyes1
Well Steve and I of course along with Melinda and Mr. @pepperandchips and Renee @ArielSRL and family!
Nice!
while it wasn't anything all that special look-wise it did get pretty busy and the drinks and food (and company ❤) were great.
:goodvibes
the pepperandchipses
 Love that.
House-made Chips served with a French Onion Dip
It all looks good, but I'm craving that now.
So we stood and watched and some who were not me may have cried. RIP Illuminations:
This guy made it both easy and hard for me to not be with my boys!
Awww... cute pic, too.
 He certainly does look snug in there!
this monster of a pretzel
Whoa! WANT!!!

Sounds like a great day! Can't beat that location proximity to MK lol and what a fun night! I have to make it to Crews Cup st some point for food. Dan and I stopped there for drinks in September before the Yachtsman and we were pretty jealous of the food we saw!

I LOVE eating at The Plaza! Ariana got me hooked on it after seeing it in her TRs years ago. I've never had the Plaza fries somehow, but you can bet they're in my future!

Your mini-epic meet up that night sounds so great! The snacks, drinks, AND COMPANY make for a perfect evening. Glad you got to see Illuminations one last time...I never even saw it all the way through once in its lifetime!

Hey woman!!! Great talking to you the other night. I honestly cannot wait until January!!!! I miss all of you soooo much!!
That pretzel looks awesome. They have a similar one at Jock Lindsey's now, so we will definitely have to check that out!!!!

My boys would love this! LOL
I think all males would love this
My Willie P! He just loved you to death, Ariane!
I loved him too and can't wait to see both your boys in January!
OMG, I forgot about this! It was huge!
It was! And I had it again last week on my FAM trip :goodvibes Still couldn't finish it but I'll keep trying!
Well, Nicholas worked and Allie went to her boyfriend's house to hand out candy :sad2: I looked at MIke at around 5:30 and said, "this is what an empty nest feels like." :sad1:
I refuse to think about an empty nest :( Or even the half empty nest I'll have come August...............
That looks AMAZING!
This is delicious! I couldn't believe my eyes when it came out in July but I was ready for it last week lol
I can’t for the life of me picture a lounge in BC?? Where is it? The food looks good. I am starting to get into lounge visits. I think we are going to try more in January! The food is usually good and a little different than the usual Disney fare.
It looks like a very nice evening with friends!
I know @Wood Nymph explained it already :thumbsup2 And she's right it really isn't much to see, definitely not like Geyser Point or Nomads or even Territory Lounge. But we were just looking for somewhere kind of last minute and I think different than Crew's Cup- somewhere kind of new to us? And it totally worked! And it was busy, could have been the rain not sure if it's like that normally. Crew's Cup on the other hand seems to always be busy!
Ok so that pretzel looks pretty good. I have to say for my upcoming short trip I just learned none of these ladies have every been to the Boardwalk area. So I think we could easily spend some time walking around Boardwalk and over to Y&BC and maybe stopping at that lounge! Adding it to my list of things to do in 3 short Disney days! :)

Of course the food at the other place also looks good. :)
Either Martha's Vineyard OR Crew's Cup would be good choices, I hope you get to one! You would be able to show them the holiday decorations in all the BW resorts, too :-)
We had three inches of snow on Halloween. It looked like a blizzard out there with blowing snow. Luckily the snow stopped around the time the kids got out of school.
We were supposed to get 1-3" tomorrow but so far it's holding off!
How is Ricky doing now? Is he playing basketball this year?
He's doing great and is stronger than ever as well as super healthy with the way he's eating and exercising :goodvibes He's signed up for the AAU team he used to play on and school tryouts are later this month!

Oh, no. The horror. Whatever will you do????
LOL the kids are doing a good job of helping get rid of it!
"And there was much gloating..."
:rolleyes1 Ricky and I may or may not have looked at them from the monorail window above as we passed by, pointing and laughing....................😆
I have to make it to Crews Cup st some point for food. Dan and I stopped there for drinks in September before the Yachtsman and we were pretty jealous of the food we saw!
Well I mean Yachtsman has good food too lol! But you guys should definitely stop there! Just one of the great lounges around Disney
I LOVE eating at The Plaza! Ariana got me hooked on it after seeing it in her TRs years ago. I've never had the Plaza fries somehow, but you can bet they're in my future!
This was my first time having them because it's hard for me to give up the fried green tomato sandwich! But I'm glad I did because they hit the spot!
Glad you got to see Illuminations one last time...I never even saw it all the way through once in its lifetime!
What??? I cannot believe you never saw all of Illuminations!! Well the good thing is you aren't emotionally vested in it.

Did I really just say that about a Disney evening show lol?

It wasn't my favorite and I am looking forward to seeing Epcot Forever for now
Hey woman!!! Great talking to you the other night. I honestly cannot wait until January!!!! I miss all of you soooo much!!
Same here ❤❤
That pretzel looks awesome. They have a similar one at Jock Lindsey's now, so we will definitely have to check that out!!!!
I saw! They seem to have a couple new things on the menu that Steve and I are excited about :dogdance:

What??? I cannot believe you never saw all of Illuminations!! Well the good thing is you aren't emotionally vested in it.

Did I really just say that about a Disney evening show lol?

LOL I know!!! The few times we actually planned to stake out a spot and watch it, we were completely downpoured on and gave up to seek shelter, and I just never made it a priority. I actually was super bummed we didn't get to see it on our Illuminations crew (also rained out, what are the odds!? ugh!) because I thought at least I'd see it once all the way through before it was gone.

My only emotional attachment was having used words from the final song as part of our Vow renewal, but I'll always have video of my Mom reading that, so I'm all set :)

All of your food looked so good - especially the Everything Pretzel - I LOVE "everything" things like bagels and pretzels. Yum!

Illuminations wasn't my favorite nighttime show, but I've seen it so many times that it will be strange to be on a trip without it.

I'm on FIRE with the updates now! Wanting to get on to my next TR so I can keep your magic just coming and coming....... 💩

Such a great night with friends on the 6th! We had one more full day in Disney and I'd really wanted it to be a good one; we were getting through this trip with no sibling fights and having a general good time. Unfortunately Ricky's food really looked bad when we got back from Crew's Cup and that changed our plans for our last day, July 7th.

As much as I knew he should stay in the room I didn't argue when he said he was going to come with us to AK bright and early. He had asked for 2 days there to get 2 rides in on FOP and he was not about to miss out over a swollen foot - heck, it wasn't like he'd gotten more holes drilled in his knee for the 3rd time! So off we all went and got there for 8:00 EMH, going straight to the safari.

We saw one of my favorite animals who strangely had been missing the few months previously, Mr. (or Mrs.) Okapi!

450800

Not sure why I love him/her, but I do.

Then we saw a WHAT?? of hippos? C'mon, if you don't know the answer why are you even here? (BLOAT for you forgetful folk)

450801

Now that the requisite safari pics are posted I'll move on to the sad Burudika picture we snapped after our safari as we ate breakfast:

450805

Little side rant but getting rid of these guys really pissed me off. They always had a crowd and upped the atmosphere and experience in Africa so much! I was sitting on the side of the stage last week on my work trip and it was so barren and desolate; they have speakers playing African music  Nothing wrong with African music but it should be LIVE!!

Back to breakfast. We had run out to get there early and were now pretty hungry so we stopped at Kusafiri right outside the safari. Ricky tried a sausage egg and cheese biscuit which none of us had had there before and said it was pretty good! Chris had my staple Disney cheese danish while I tried something new;

450808

I think this is the elephant ear? It was pretty good; very flaky and light. But I'll stick to my beloved Disney danish next time. Something else I tried for the first time was this!

450811

This gorgeous Bloody Mary is from Dawa Bar in Africa and I think is or used to be called the Dawa Mary but it isn't on the online menu nor is it on the menu hanging up at the bar. But it's nice and spicy with candied bacon in it so what more do you need?

Ricky's foot was getting more painful as he walked but we weren't up for our FOP FP yet. We had EE next! I managed to get 2 smiles despite ones' pain:

450813

And this crazy kid rode EE again for the 2nd time EVER!

451047

A happy Chris = a weird day lol

And THEN because the line wasn't long we did it AGAIN

451048

Whoo! We were having fun and this also saved Ricky's foot a bit since we only walked right back on. At this point he was limping and obviously trying to hide how much it hurt and I felt so bad for him But he would NOT leave before FOP so luckily it was coming up soon! On our way over to Pandora we grabbed a new to us snack at Mr. Kamal's, chicken dumplings:

451057

These were good! Nice and crispy, nothing to go "oh wow" over but a nice treat to hold us over a bit. We were planning on going to DS for lunch and then Epcot.........right after FOP Ricky and Chris hightailed it out of there while Steve and I did a bit of browsing and shopping. Our 3rd FP was for the safari again but since we'd ridden already the kids were ok missing it and so were we; it was HOT. We came across this dance party going on

451058

Right before I took this picture there had been a band of sorts playing on the stage while the characters danced with guests. So cute! Our boys met the Brother Bear guys over in Canada in Epcot many moons ago. I don't think this is happening anymore but I'm not sure; we did see it in August but not Sept when we were there late afternoon.

We were ready to say good-bye to AK for the time being (not knowing at the time we'd be back the following month!) and with Ricky's foot we really didn't know what the night would have in store for us. Therefore we were in no rush and decided to make a pit stop at another resort on our way back to the Contemporary.

Anyone want to guess where we stopped off :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes pixiedust:

Poor Ricky and his food! At least it looks like y'all had a fun and productive morning despite it. My guess is you were headed to the Wilderness Lodge, of course!

My only emotional attachment was having used words from the final song as part of our Vow renewal, but I'll always have video of my Mom reading that, so I'm all set :)
That's beautiful  I didn't know that!
All of your food looked so good - especially the Everything Pretzel - I LOVE "everything" things like bagels and pretzels. Yum!
I had no idea that existed before July and, I know I'll get hate for this, it blows away the lovely in park Mickey pretzels :duck:
Illuminations wasn't my favorite nighttime show, but I've seen it so many times that it will be strange to be on a trip without it.
It wasn't mine either; mine had been Wishes and since I'm not a big HEA fan I feel its absence every night I'm in MK :( Since I thought of Illuminations as just ok I will probably be able to easily get used to a new show!

As much as I knew he should stay in the room I didn't argue when he said he was going to come with us to AK bright and early.
Toughing it out. Turning into a man. (Well... a man who isn't crying anyways.)
heck, it wasn't like he'd gotten more holes drilled in his knee for the 3rd time!
:rolleyes1
We saw one of my favorite animals who strangely had been missing the few months previously, Mr. (or Mrs.) Okapi!
Interesting. I don't know anyone (well, up til now) who's said the okapi is their fave.
Then we saw a WHAT?? of hippos? C'mon, if you don't know the answer why are you even here? (BLOAT for you forgetful folk)
Shouldn't have said. Then you could GLOAT.
Little side rant but getting rid of these guys really pissed me off. They always had a crowd and upped the atmosphere and experience in Africa so much!
Agree!!!!!!
hey have speakers playing African music
lame
we stopped at Kusafiri
And didn't get the giant cinnamon bun???????????
This gorgeous Bloody Mary is from Dawa Bar in Africa and I think is or used to be called the Dawa Mary but it isn't on the online menu nor is it on the menu hanging up at the bar. But it's nice and spicy with candied bacon in it so what more do you need?
wow that looks good! Must get!
A happy Chris = a weird day lol
On our way over to Pandora we grabbed a new to us snack at Mr. Kamal's, chicken dumplings:
That's on my list. ::yes::

Getting rid of the African street performers was a big mistake on Disney’s part. I agree 100%. We had so much fun watching them in September with Gia.
Note to self. I need to try that Bloody Mary in January. Yum!!!

LOL! I understand, it's So different and weird and frustrating to tour/be in Disney and not be able to do what you normally do.
It really is!

This was.......just frustrating, period. To know there was delicious food out there but have to eat crap was the worst as stuck up as that sounds!
It doesn't sound stuck up at all! It sounds logical!

If you've ever watched the show "Flea Market Flip" they sometimes film from the Stormville Flea Market-that's right here :)
Yes! That's so cool :thumbsup2

C'mon, if you don't know the answer why are you even here?
:rotfl2: This actually made me LOL

Little side rant but getting rid of these guys really pissed me off.
Me too :sad1:

This gorgeous Bloody Mary is from Dawa Bar in Africa and I think is or used to be called the Dawa Mary but it isn't on the online menu nor is it on the menu hanging up at the bar. But it's nice and spicy with candied bacon in it so what more do you need?
And thank you for getting me hooked on them! :thumbsup2 They are so delicious :cloud9:

A happy Chris = a weird day lol

Ricky was really being a trooper! It's too bad his foot was being so difficult, but I'm glad he was able to hold out for FOP!

Even if I don't stop and listen to all the performers, I really think they add a lot to the "Disney" atmosphere. It's what sets them apart from other parks and cutting them for the bottom line really diminishes the experience within the parks.

:rolleyes1 Ricky and I may or may not have looked at them from the monorail window above as we passed by, pointing and laughing....................😆
That's hilarious!
Ricky tried a sausage egg and cheese biscuit which none of us had had there before and said it was pretty good!
I saw that on the menu the other day. We cancelled our TH ressie for our Thanksgiving trip so we will shoot for some QS breakfast and Kusafiri was on the short list. I have gotten the wrap there before but don't see it anymore so I wonder if the biscuit replaced it.
I think this is the elephant ear? It was pretty good; very flaky and light.
I always think I am going to try this someday but I nver get to it. Too many other great choices.
Something else I tried for the first time was this!

This gorgeous Bloody Mary is from Dawa Bar in Africa and I think is or used to be called the Dawa Mary but it isn't on the online menu nor is it on the menu hanging up at the bar. But it's nice and spicy with candied bacon in it so what more do you need?
So I know I have mentioned that this is Chad's fave Bloody Mary. Its kind of an interesting story. He wasn't that much of a Bloody Mary fan until he had one of these from Dawa on his first trip in 35 years (2017). I honestly think it was one of the minor reasons he became a convert...lol. Now he buys fresh bacon from the meat dept at our grocery store every weekend to fry up and put in his Bloody Marys. Totally started a trend for him that lives on to this day!
Ricky's foot was getting more painful as he walked but we weren't up for our FOP FP yet. We had EE next! I managed to get 2 smiles despite ones' pain:

Great photo of two handsome young men.
And this crazy kid rode EE again for the 2nd time EVER!

451047
Um, I can't get over the kid in the front seat! Poor thing. I can't help but laugh though.
On our way over to Pandora we grabbed a new to us snack at Mr. Kamal's, chicken dumplings:

451057

These were good! Nice and crispy, nothing to go "oh wow" over but a nice treat to hold us over a bit.
Looks good! Surprisingly enough, I have never gotten anything from Mr. Kamals before, partially because I never knew where it was. Another popular spot I had not visited until July was Eight Spoon, but I am so glad I remedied that. That mac n cheese...yum!
Anyone want to guess where we stopped off :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes pixiedust:
My (obvious) guess is WL.

Poor Ricky
Ugh I know right? He had 2 trips before that nursing his knee after the ACL surgeries and then we're finally there when he's just about cleared and has no pain walking - and this :headache: But it all ended up fine!
My guess is you were headed to the Wilderness Lodge, of course!
Is there any better resort to stop at when you aren't staying there :goodvibes I can't wait to stay there again in January!
Toughing it out. Turning into a man. (Well... a man who isn't crying anyways.)
Tough guys cry AND wear pink!
But I do have to add that through all his surgeries he barely cried at all. However he did get tears in his eyes when he met his niece and nephew for the first time.
Interesting. I don't know anyone (well, up til now) who's said the okapi is their fave.
Well in truth the lions/tigers/all big cats are my true favorites but for some reason I like the Okapi almost as much! I think they're pretty and you don't see them all that much so................
::yes:::mad:
And didn't get the giant cinnamon bun???????????
I know, not my smartest move! Chris has had that cinnamon bun but for whatever reason didn't want it that day. I won't make that mistake again!
wow that looks good! Must get!
It's practically perfect in every way :drinking1 The only Disney Bloody Mary I've found so far that I like more are the ones at Refreshment Port in Epcot!
Getting rid of the African street performers was a big mistake on Disney’s part. I agree 100%. We had so much fun watching them in September with Gia.
No idea what the heck they were thinking??? I do see that my African acrobats appear to still be there for now so fingers crossed they stay because they too are awesome.
I need to try that Bloody Mary in January. Yum!!!
I'll remind you lol!

It doesn't sound stuck up at all! It sounds logical!
:) When we do our Universal work trips it's so much easier to handle because I don't go as often and I prefer Disney, so I don't have my own way of doing Uni!
And thank you for getting me hooked on them! :thumbsup2 They are so delicious :cloud9:
You're welcome lol
Ricky was really being a trooper! It's too bad his foot was being so difficult, but I'm glad he was able to hold out for FOP!
He doesn't give up! And that's his favorite ride so I wasn't surprised but I still felt bad
Even if I don't stop and listen to all the performers, I really think they add a lot to the "Disney" atmosphere. It's what sets them apart from other parks and cutting them for the bottom line really diminishes the experience within the parks.
This exactly. In other parks we've been to like 6 Flags and Hershey I look to see what little shows there are and it's pretty much nothing - no surprises as you walk around. It's all the unexpected non-ride stuff, the things that those who don't go all the time don't read about online, that really make the parks special. And it's all slowly but surely going away.
Poor Ricky, but what a trooper! Glad you all enjoyed a wonderful morning at AK together.
He does work through his pain that's for sure!
I was happy he had fun that morning with us since it was our last :)
I saw that on the menu the other day. We cancelled our TH ressie for our Thanksgiving trip so we will shoot for some QS breakfast and Kusafiri was on the short list.
Just out of curiosity why'd you cancel? Just moving plans around like any good DISboarder lol?
So I know I have mentioned that this is Chad's fave Bloody Mary. Its kind of an interesting story. He wasn't that much of a Bloody Mary fan until he had one of these from Dawa on his first trip in 35 years (2017). I honestly think it was one of the minor reasons he became a convert...lol. Now he buys fresh bacon from the meat dept at our grocery store every weekend to fry up and put in his Bloody Marys. Totally started a trend for him that lives on to this day!
I remember you saying that! That's so funny that's it's one of the things that made him such a big fan - I remember your earlier reports here where you'd travel without him! And funny he adds bacon to his own at home but very cool too!
Great photo of two handsome young men.
:thanks:
Looks good! Surprisingly enough, I have never gotten anything from Mr. Kamals before, partially because I never knew where it was. Another popular spot I had not visited until July was Eight Spoon, but I am so glad I remedied that. That mac n cheese...yum!
And surprisingly I've never gotten anything from Eight Spoon! Previously we've gotten loaded fries at Mr. Kamal's with a sriracha ketchup but now they only have fries with some dipping sauces.
