Disney Plus Review of Content

What are your thoughts on the content and layout of Disney Plus? So far, it looks really good. Lots of great content. But as Craig pointed out, not all vintage Disney vault is available. Missing some Mickey Mouse club episodes and Disneyland Walt sitdowns, and probably various other things.
Love the Mandalorian. It was a bit cheesy, but still very good. I love all the imagineering and park stuff and shorts. I just wish they could give us an option to combine all the short stuff. There's lots of 1-6 minute shows. And it gets tedious to click on them after they finish in like a minute or two. Also, I wish they could organize the mickey shorts in lots of different ways. And an option for like an editor's pick on different things always playing would be nice. They could put some of the shorts in there for those that don't want to have to select them all individually.

I haven't really explored the content too much but the layout could use some work. On my PC they have nice tabs at the top to click on the Watchlist etc... But on other devices you have to fool around to try to bring them up. I really want a Continue Watching option right at the top where it would be easy to get to. I want to be able to click on a thumbnail and add it to my watchlist without bringing up the whole movie and losing my search results.

I would like to see more Disneyland and Disney World Old School programs for the sixties. More Zorro and Mickey Mouse Club as well as Spin and Marty. Hopefully more of these will show up. Where's Merlin Jones?

I really like the Disney through the decades tab. And look forward to more exploring the system.

I'm fairly happy with it so far, although there are some glaring exceptions that others have pointed out in terms of content and I hope they continue to add to things from their back catalogue. The "Disney Channel" category is going to please people in their 20s and early 30s, but those of us 40-and-olders would really appreciate some content from the Disney Channel of the 80s and early 90s. I was disappointed that they only had one episode of "The Mickey Mouse Club" and it was just from the first season. Would love to see more of that, as well as the MMC reboots of later years. Would love to see MANY more classic shorts - Silly Symphonies and others. Really disappointed at some of the live-action omissions ("Napoloeon and Samantha", "Summer Magic") and I will never understand why they would have "Brave Little Toaster" sequels but not the original (and only watchable, IMHO) "Brave Little Toaster". More obscurities, please. Would also love if they could get some deals to show the television movies and series that the old Disney Channel used to produce/co-produce/distribute/air. ("Avonlea" is impossible to find and tv movies like "Back to Hannibal" and such would be so fun to revisit. What about the old family-friendly "Wonderful World of Disney" movies that used to air on Sunday nights on ABC?)

In terms of usability, it works very choppily on my Roku, but pretty smoothly on my Amazon Firestick and my desktop computer. I don't like that you can't prioritize categories and there seems to be inconsistency on what the app will "remember" when you hit the "back" button. If I'm looking at a large menu of content and click into one title to add it to my watchlist - on my computer, when I click "back", the website version remembers where I left off. It doesn't do that on my tv streaming apps.

There also doesn't appear to be any easy way to return to the previous menu to see the next item in a category - so, for example, if I watch one film in the "Shorts" category, if the next one I want to watch isn't in the "recommended" list at the bottom of the screen, then I have to go all the way back to the home page and then laboriously click all the way down to the last category ("Shorts" is way at the bottom!) and then scroll through until I find the next short on the list where I left off. Very clunky.

Better app "memory" for previously-viewed pages, and more customization of categories and favorites, would be appreciated.

I noticed that there were only 5 episodes of the Mickey Mouse Club, and they were the same episodes that were released on the Disney Treasures DVD.

Same with the Spin and Marty and Disneyland around the seasons. I hope they move past the things that they already put out on DVD

It probably has to do with what they already have clean transfers of. I watched a minute or so of the first Davy Crockett and it was looking pretty sharp! I imagine some of these older programs don't have good transfers because they have not been released in any format. It does make sense for them to release more stuff in the future anyway to keep people hooked on the service.
