New Credit Card Authorization Holds

Make sure you don't have a CC stored on MDE (you can find that info under My Profile in MDE). If there is one stored delete it. It will not affect your reservations or ADRs.

Disney will ask you if you would like to place a CC on the room for charging privileges, but you are not required to do so.

Hopefully this helps. I'm not certain if there is a difference with MDE in UK vs US.
Thank you so much. I did check if my CC was stored and it's not so I now have peace of mind, thank you.

My trip is 19 days from today and I do have a CC stored. If I want online checkin, I leave it, yes? But after that I can delete it or remove charging Privileges?

Yes, you have to have a card linked in order to do online check in. You can remove charging privileges by going to the front desk.

I’m so confused with this change. Can understand why they had to do it but it’s frustrating when I would never buy something I couldn’t afford that I now have to accept these changes and try to get my head around what seems a very convoluted process. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in Vegas where you have to put a credit card down for damages but then can just charge back straight away with out future holds keep being applied. With such a great tool like Magic Band there is no way I’m going to pay cash or pay separately by card when I have this awesome band I can charge everything too.

So we check in at Yacht Club in a little over a week. I have a CC attached to my MDE for ADR bookings and upcharges which have been charged already, i.e. after hours, CLP dining package as we didn’t want to use our dining credits. Should I now remove this card from MDE as it is not the same card I want to charge my MB purchases too? Or shall I just say I want a different card on file? I don’t want to disrupt all my upcharges by suddenly removing the card I used to pay for them - even though I know I have already paid!

Sorry for the super long message and thanks in advance!

You can go to the front desk when you check in and have them change the credit card for you. That way you know that the correct credit card will be used for charging on your MagicBands.

Obviously they were having problems, but there were alternatives to the holds. Before the holds, park tickets purchased on site that were charged to the MBs were charged out immediately. They could just switch the system to run all charges immediately, or automatically charge out if the balance reached $50+. This new policy is bad for folks that use certain debit cards, as their banks will keep the holds on for a week, so they not only charge out the actual room charge, but then they have those hold, preventing them access to the cash they have in the bank, even if they budgeted for the money spent at Disney.

Ok Im sure this may have been answered somewhere in this 80 page discussion but I dont have time to read all of it!
How does this work if you pay with Gift cards at the desk? Id usually go to the desk every other day and pay off the balance with the gift cards. Would i have to go every night to pay it down to avoid another hold? Say i spend $150 during the day and get back to the hotel. Then go pay it off, would that hold off the other hold or does it happen as soon as you reach that 150 mark?

Good question.

I wouldn't even bother with the magic bands if you plan on using gift cards. Use the gift cards directly at the point of service. That way, you don't need to worry about the inconsistent hold policy.

I'd rather use the magic bands due to not wanting to carry carry cards and risk dropping them.

I can't even remember. I feel like somewhere in here someone detailed when the next hold kicks in.

The next hold happens as soon as your charges go over $100. IIRC from previous posters experiences, you can pay down your balance at any time with gift cards until the fifth day. On the fifth day, Disney will charge your card for whatever the balance is at that time and then place another hold. I don't recall anyone reporting back at what point they got another hold when paying down with gift cards.

Then you'll have to put a card on your account at the front desk and deal with the multiple holds. Your first $100 hold will be early on your check in day and there will continue to be $100 holds put on the account as you charge. Using a gift card does not prevent the first hold and may not prevent further holds. Depends on what policy the resort decides to follow that particular day.

For Gift Cards, it was a mess. It charged out every night to credit card due to meeting hold limit. Then had to get that reversed and pay with gift card every night. There was always a line at front desk at AOA morning and night. We lost so much time doing it. I don't know that I will ever charge with Magic Bands after that if I have gift cards. I agree just use those gift cards at point of purchase in parks. It was six days of chasing balances. I left feeling like I would have to check card statements for couple months to see if it all worked out. I understand the why behind the change, but I wish we could just commit to an x dollar amount and have that roll to card on file when $ reached - like it used to be I guess.

Do you often lose your Drivers license and other important documents? You can literally load 1k on 1 gift card and carry that. I was worried someone was going to lose their MB the entire time we were there. Seems something you could fling off your wrist would be much more susceptible to loss.

My wife and I haven't used the MB for purchases since this new policy went into affect. Not worth the aggravation. Better to use gift cards, credit cards, and CASH :)

Absolutely- MBs cannot be charged without a PIN number and are removed from your account easily if lost. The convenience of charging on MBs is worth the hold and I certainly don’t want to bring a card into the park unless I have to - only used my card at World of Disney in DS to get the visa discount.

I always carry one card, in case the resort charging system goes down. It has happened before.
