New Credit Card Authorization Holds

Definitely can't be 100% reliant on Magic Bands. I have personally been in the parks where the resort system is down (for both room charges and dining plan) and was not prepared. It made for a very cranky pregnant lady. :rotfl2: Now I always make sure I have cash/CC as backup.

Don't take that chance and be caught off guard with no backup if this happens.

We've gotten caught where magic bands *and* credit cards didn't work. We now always carry $20-40 in cash with us in addition to our MBs and Disney Visa, just in case.

Do you often lose your Drivers license and other important documents? You can literally load 1k on 1 gift card and carry that. I was worried someone was going to lose their MB the entire time we were there. Seems something you could fling off your wrist would be much more susceptible to loss.
Well for one no, i leave my wallet and other items in the safe! Wearing light comfortable shorts getting in and out of ride vehicles you never know when something as small as a gift card can fall out till you go to use it, Also I have no issues with the magic bands, You can see and feel those on your wrist!
And if the system goes down I guess i wont be making a purchase. With dining i guess they will have to take me back to my resort to get card/cash since their system went down!

I do not know if this was just some bizarre glitch but I deleted my card off my account months before our trip because we decided to use gift cards. When we arrived I headed to the front desk at AKL to check in, since without the card on file we knew we couldn't do online checkin. Imagine my surprisd as she checked us in and the said " do you want to use your card ending **** for charges?" :sad2:

I told her no, we didnt want to charge on our bands and she said that was fine, but I found it odd that they still had our card somehow on file when I had deleted it. We were never charged any holds but dont think they would have anyway since we had rented points so unless we used our bands, they wouldn't have used the card.

Ok Im sure this may have been answered somewhere in this 80 page discussion but I dont have time to read all of it!
How does this work if you pay with Gift cards at the desk? Id usually go to the desk every other day and pay off the balance with the gift cards. Would i have to go every night to pay it down to avoid another hold? Say i spend $150 during the day and get back to the hotel. Then go pay it off, would that hold off the other hold or does it happen as soon as you reach that 150 mark?
Yes you need to go by more often

I believe they can always see the card you used to reserve your room no matter what. On the back end bookkeeping if you will. If you don't select to use it for room charging it won't automatically be set for that which would be the reason for the CMs question

Had you already done online check-in a while ago, and then you went back to remove the card? I thought online check-in didn't actually save changes or modifications - it's sort of a one-and-done thing, anything after that has to be called (new/additional requests, change card, etc.). Or as PP mentions, they do always have visibility to the card used for the reservation.

Enjoy your vacation!

No, I had the card on file for previous trips but we rented points for this trip and after purchasing our tickets I made sure the card was not saved!

Disney has a large data base of information that would include your credit card information from prior activities. :) You just need to make sure that you go to check in and make sure they aren't going to charge any of your cards. :)

This! On our 2018 trip I did online check-in but got the message that we needed to stop at the front desk upon arrival. Got there and found out there was a problem with our credit card. Yeah, the problem was the card they had on file had been cancelled/replaced over a year ago due to a data breach somewhere. And that card had NEVER been used on this particular reservation. I had used a different card for the reservation and for online check-in. No idea how they old number showed up for our current reservation. The CM fixed it and we went on our merry way. A few days later our MBs were denied for payment. Went to the front desk and for some reason, the old card number had once again showed up and attached itself to our account. The CM fixed it again and said "sometimes when the system updates, it reverts to old information." Well, it reset again later in the week (our last night) and our final room charges were never actually put through. I realized about a week or so later that we hadn't been charged for those last few days of MB charges. I finally called them to take care of it...after almost 2 weeks, no one from Disney had contacted me about the outstanding charges.

I was hoping to charge to my room with my magic band and pay off with gift cards. I realize I may need to do this nightly, which is fine. But is there a certain time I need to do it by? If I don't get back till midnight, can I still pay it off or is there a cut off time? I am planning to pay basically anything I can with gift cards that I already have. The alternative is to not use the magic bands but it seems to convenient.

I think the system works this way...but not 100% sure...As soon as you charge$100 or more a new pre-authorization is automatically requested, so if you charge more than $100 during the day, there will be multiple authorizations. If you pay your balance, then those authorizations stay on you account. As you charge during the next day, new authorization will not be needed unless you go over the amount of those existing authorizations. But I would ask the front desk to be sure.

MDE charging is always a bit of a problem for us. A few years back I booked a room only trip for my son and his girlfriend then took my card off of MDE so that his MB charges wouldn't go to my card. When they checked in he made a point of asking to have separate charge cards for both his and his girlfriends cards. So they each had their own card attached to their own MB. Simple right? Nope somehow all of the charges went to my debit card that I paid for the rooms with. I just let it go and my son reimbursed me when he got home but they had wasted over an hour to set up separate charges and everything still got charged to me. Another trip took three separate trips to the desk due to a card that I had canceled being used even though I had changed it before our trip and showed them at check in that it was a different card.

This happened to us as well. Same exact thing.

in my experience, I wanted to pay off my balances with Disney gift cards I had, when I went to do this after being there 3/4 days, I was i formed that they had already sent my charges thru to my bank, that they only let you charge up to a certain amount and then they run it, I’m sure to not let anyone run up a huge bill by the end of a trip and then their cc not be approved! So, I believe for every $500 I spent, they were submitting it to my bank, but when I got my bill at the end of the trip, it just shows total charges, it doesn’t show that they break it up in payments!!! It makes sense, I was just surprised!

we have been in a BC Villa since 12/7. 4Adults. We are using our Magic Band to charge everything, food, drinks merchandise etc.
Our charges have slightly exceeding $1000 one day and around $4-500 every other day. I have then used Gift Cards and Rewards cards to pay down the bal. We have had zero holds.

Tried to read through but too many pages. I just want to make sure that linking a credit card to your reservation is an option, not required ( at least that's the way the policy reads) but if you choose not to, you will not be able to do online check-in or have the ability to charge things back to your room.

Correct, or at least that is my understanding as well.

I am so confused in regards to this. I had planned on paying with the Magic Bands, and then using gift cards to pay it off at the front desk at night. Is this still viable? It is our first time on site so it is our first time using MB to charge.
