Where Can We Get One of Those Whip Things? A Wine & Dine TR (Nov. 2019)

Following along again.

Re: TSA Pre - go for it!!! It's great to have but especially for those who fly out of MCO. You'll be glad you made the investment the very first time you skip that long, long line! :)

I’m considering getting TSA precheck and then I could sleep in a little more!
DO IT! We got it in August and so far I've used it for 3 trips and it is wonderful! Leaving MCO last month with my co-worker who does not have pre-check: I was through in seriously 7 minutes from the time I stepped in line until I was done and then I waited another 27 minutes for her
We walked up to the next building to get my shirts
Ooh so cute! Love the Jungle Book one!

Your dinner sounds good; we never venture off site to eat but I know there are lots of good restaurants around :)

Enjoying your trip report. Following along. Looking forward to here how the run went. I haven’t done anything like that before but have been semi talking myself into setting it as a future goal.

Joining in, love to follow a fellow Minnesotan!

Sounds like a pretty smooth first day except for the long wait for a room and of course the race cancel you had to deal with, yikes.

The steakhouse sounds like a nice choice

Joining in!!! I can't wait to hear how the race went!
:welcome: Glad to see you! First race coming up soon!

Port Orleans is probably the next resort we will try. The deluxes are getting to be out of our price range.
I really like French Quarter but I haven't tried Riverside yet. My cousin and I just booked Caribbean Beach for Star Wars weekend because we waited too long and almost everything is booked!

Following along again.

:welcome: Welcome back! I'm looking into the precheck and it's not even that expensive. Plus, we had a looong wait at MCO this time.

That's amazing. I think our wait at MCO TSA was around 45 minutes on the way back

Ooh so cute! Love the Jungle Book one!
It's my favorite of all 4 shirts too! I think they did a nice job with all of them

:welcome: Do it! I'm so glad I did. I'm not a big time runner and I don't even "love" running the way some people do and this was a great experience

:welcome: Happy to see you here, hope you are staying warm! We got lucky with such a smooth travel day.

I hope everyone survived their Monday! I worked 3 jobs today and it's cold and dreary outside so I'm hanging out on my computer instead of doing something more productive. I also have a dog on my lap so I obviously can't go do laundry! 😁

Friday, Nov. 1st- Race Day #1!

3am did come early as I didn’t sleep the greatest but at least I slept some. This was the morning of the 5k (3.1 miles) and it was my first ever race. I got up, used the bathroom, changed, and was on my way to the bus stop by 3:15. I was hoping there would be someone in the lobby that I could borrow a pen from because I hadn’t filled out my emergency contact info on the back of my race bib yet since our room had zero pens in it. No luck there so I just got on the first bus and we were on our way at 3:30. Everyone on our bus was very quiet but there was a lot of energy and music once we arrived at Epcot. I stopped at the information tent to borrow a pen, which of course wouldn’t write on the bib. At least I was able to scratch my dad’s phone number onto it just in case. Since I had no idea what was going on, I didn’t stop for any character pictures and just headed towards the corrals...which was a looooong walk away. At least we got a warm up in, I guess?? I entered corral C as soon as it opened and got to wait about 2 rows back from the front. I was right under a speaker and the music was so loud!

The DJ and announcers were fine and once 5:30 hit they really started sending the waves out quickly (or at least faster than I expected). I think I crossed the starting line before 6am.

My plan for the 5k was to take it easy and get some character pictures, since I knew I’d be close on time for the next 2 races and they were timed. I’m not a fast runner and starting in the last corrals was going to be hard. My friend Kitty and some other friends I’d met through a virtual running club were further ahead and texting the character line up to me. Country Bears was first and I’m not a big fan so didn’t stop. King Louie and Baloo were next but when I reached them a course official said the line was over an hour so I kept going. I was able to keep a steady jog/walk interval going all the way into Epcot, just like I had trained. So far so good!

Chef Donald was meeting by Figment and the line wasn’t bad so I stopped to wait. I also got some nice pictures of the ride and the fountain while I was standing there.

My understanding of the 5k was that it wasn’t timed so if you were moving in a forward motion and not being ridiculously slow, you’d be allowed to continue, so I wasn’t too worried about the wait. I got my picture after about 20 minutes and just as I was leaving the stop, the course official stopped everyone running by there and said we had to be removed from the course! I panicked thinking I was being swept and told her- I’ll run! She said go and go I did! I took off at a faster run than I probably should have into Epcot and didn’t slow down for a while. I texted my friends ahead of me and told them I thought I’d almost been swept in my first race. They said I was crazy and that there were way too many people behind me for them to be picking people up already. I didn’t care and I kept a steady pace through World Showcase, just slowing down to snap some pictures here and there.

I was thrilled to cross my first finish line ever and get my medal! I believe my Garmin read my race time at 48 minutes including my picture stop and I usually run a 40-45 min 5k so it was a great time for me! Fueled by adrenaline!

I grabbed my free water, banana, and snack box, and headed to the photopass lines to get a finisher photo. I was planning to get an Annual Pass this trip so I wanted all the photos!

Then it was time for the hike back to the busses and I arrived back at POFQ at 7:40. My dad had just gotten out of bed! Through our text group, I found out that a gentleman had collapsed near where they stopped me and had diverted runners into a different part of Epcot so emergency responders could get through. Super sad way to end race day #1 but at least I knew I wasn’t falling behind. I hoped I hadn’t overdone the running and worn out my legs for the next 2 days.

Congrats on that first race! I really enjoyed the 5K. I was ahead of when the incident happened. It was sad to learn later about what happened.

I worked 3 jobs today
:faint:
I'm hanging out on my computer instead of doing something more productive.
Hanging out on your computer is productive! You got an update done!
I also have a dog on my lap so I obviously can't go do laundry! 😁
Obviously!
3am did come early as I didn’t sleep the greatest but at least I slept some.
Some is better than none, but... 3am is early!
I stopped at the information tent to borrow a pen, which of course wouldn’t write on the bib.
Of course...
At least I was able to scratch my dad’s phone number onto it just in case.
That's good. Now you're safe. No number=catastrophe around the corner.
I was right under a speaker and the music was so loud!
If you're deaf you can't hear the upcoming heart attack.
My friend Kitty and some other friends I’d met through a virtual running club were further ahead and texting the character line up to me.
Oh! That's neat. Never would've thought of that. :)
Country Bears was first and I’m not a big fan so didn’t stop.
Uh, oh! You just upset a whole bunch of Bears fans!
King Louie and Baloo were next but when I reached them a course official said the line was over an hour so I kept going.
An hour?????
My understanding of the 5k was that it wasn’t timed so if you were moving in a forward motion and not being ridiculously slow, you’d be allowed to continue, so I wasn’t too worried about the wait.
Sure. I can see that. Especially from Disney.
I got my picture after about 20 minutes and just as I was leaving the stop, the course official stopped everyone running by there and said we had to be removed from the course!
Noooo!!!
I panicked thinking I was being swept and told her- I’ll run! She said go and go I did!
Run!!! Run!!!!!!!!!
I was thrilled to cross my first finish line ever and get my medal!
Congratulations! Way to go!!! :)
I believe my Garmin read my race time at 48 minutes including my picture stop and I usually run a 40-45 min 5k so it was a great time for me! Fueled by adrenaline!
Wow! Including stops, that's impressive!
I arrived back at POFQ at 7:40. My dad had just gotten out of bed!
"Good morning. Did you just wake up too?"
Through our text group, I found out that a gentleman had collapsed near where they stopped me and had diverted runners into a different part of Epcot so emergency responders could get through.
Ah. Explains it. They weren't removing you for being slow, they were moving you to get the responders in. At least I assume so.
And... betcha he didn't write on his bib. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.[/QUOTE]

Congrats on that first race! I really enjoyed the 5K. I was ahead of when the incident happened. It was sad to learn later about what happened.
Thank you! It was certainly a sad way to start the weekend

Sounds fun and nerve wracking at the same time.

Cute picture with Donald.
It was fun! And if I was going to have issues, I'd rather it be during the shortest race

Congrats on your first race! Well done!
Thank you! I was relieved to get one completed!

If you're deaf you can't hear the upcoming heart attack.
And if the music is loud enough, people won't fall back asleep in the corrals

Uh, oh! You just upset a whole bunch of Bears fans!
😬 I live in a big city, they'll have trouble finding me

Wow! Including stops, that's impressive!
I was a little shocked when I looked at the results. But, I also do a lot of training on the treadmill and I never know how accurate that really is, so maybe I'm faster than I think!

That's what I'm assuming. Sadly, it sounds like he had his young daughter with him too. You can bet I found a pen right away for my next bib!

It all works!

Hide. Be safe.

:( Oh no. That’s awful.
You can bet I found a pen right away for my next bib!
I bet!

Oh he's so cute! Glad you stopped for that one.
I grabbed my free water, banana, and snack box, and headed to the photopass lines to get a finisher photo
Congrats on finishing :worship:
I love idea of doing one of the races-if it were a WALK lol. And I know people who aren't runners in real life do it and enjoy it and succeed so maybe one day I'll get there! For now I'll be like your dad, just getting out of bed on race days while the participants are finishing up :rotfl:

Thank you! 2 years ago I'd never have thought I'd do this! And my original plan for the 5k was just to walk but sometimes you go with the flow

Since I had no idea what was going on, I didn’t stop for any character pictures and just headed towards the corrals...which was a looooong walk away.

That walk to the corrals was SO long! It was our first race too so I was like what the heck!

That was my understanding too! I would've panicked also!

Through our text group, I found out that a gentleman had collapsed near where they stopped me and had diverted runners into a different part of Epcot so emergency responders could get through.

Oo that makes sense. When we ran past that area, they were yelling at everyone to stay to the right because there was a stretcher on the left. So sad for his family.

I think I could have walked from my resort and had a similar distance :rotfl: Congrats on your race!

It was way too early in the morning for that much adrenaline!

I felt so bad for them! Hopefully his family is doing okay.

Friday, Nov. 1st - Post Race

I showered and had some snacks and a protein shake and then it was time to head to Epcot! I tried to plan my race & park combo days carefully to minimize walking, with the larger parks on the shorter race days (5k-Epcot, 10k- Magic Kingdom, and Half-Hollywood Studios). I think we arrived shortly after 9 and I stopped at Guest Relations to upgrade my tickets to an Annual Pass. My first race and my first AP in the same day!

CLBnGKd.jpg

I had made our Fastpasses for later in the morning because I didn’t know what time I’d make it to the parks each day, so we headed in to The Seas first. A quick clamshell ride to start the day, but I didn’t realize my dad hasn’t seen Finding Nemo and really didn’t know what was going on. I beelined for the manatees next since I didn’t get to see them in September. Lil’ Joe was swimming all around and showing off for us.

After visiting for a while downstairs, we walked over to see if the dolphins were out and 2 of them were chasing each other all around the tank and biting each others tails. So cute! We wandered through some of the other areas and then stopped back to watch them feed the manatees. We spent almost an hour in the aquarium.

I originally planned this day and another full day at Epcot but after seeing the construction I was wondering if 1 day would be more than enough in this park so we decided to see how much we could do today. Soarin was listed as a 20 minute wait so I asked Dad if he wanted to go and I also explained what the ride was. I don’t like heights but he really HATES heights, so I wasn’t sure he’d be interested. He said we should go for it and we actually walked right on, and he loved it! Our quest to complete Epcot continued, which meant Figment next because it was close. It’s still just okay for me but I had to make sure my dad experienced it lol.

We were both starving afterwards and Dad didn’t want to go to Sunshine Seasons where he’d have to pick a station to eat from so we headed to the Electric Umbrella. I was so hungry I would have eaten anything and it was very empty in there. I got the chicken nuggets and he had a chicken sandwich. My dad was wearing a shirt saying he survived the Needles Highway in South Dakota (he’s an avid bicyclist and used to bike there when I lived there) and one of the CM’s started talking to him about it because going to Mount Rushmore is a bucket list item for her. We chatted a bit and then took our food outside. She came to our table as we were eating with a free slushie :) More nice pixie dust!

Our first FP was for Test Track and this was a no brainer to book. My dad loves cars and actually worked for Chrysler right out of college. He loved checking out the concept car and I made him build our vehicle, but he almost ran out of time. He enjoyed the ride too and we spent some time looking at the cars inside. We also saw that his car made the leaderboard for responsiveness! Hey, he watched manatees with me, I can look at cars for a while!

Our next FP was Spaceship Earth and we had a nice journey through time, even though our pictures never showed up in our future. We grabbed some pop and a spot in the shade afterwards. I was tired and it was hot! The Jamming Chefs came out and we enjoyed their show. Very cool entertainment to stumble upon!

Kitty and her dad had overlapping FP’s with us for Living with the Land at 2 so we headed back to The Land to meet them and had a nice ride through the greenhouses. I planned this FP on purpose because it matched up with our dinner in the evening. Our friends headed to Soarin afterwards but the wait was too long for us.

We decided to walk around the World Showcase before dinner and then call it a night.

We started on the Mexico side and tried to get on the Gran Fiesta Tour but the line was all the way into the central shopping part of the pyramid. What the heck! We noped out of that and continued to Norway and beyond. Frozen also had a ridiculously long wait so we just took pictures and walked our way around the world. We stopped to see the trains in Germany and the drummers in Japan but it was too hot and crowded to do much more. My dad used to travel a lot for work so he's visited many of these countries in real life so I don't think this was as interesting for him as it is for me! We made it back to Future World almost an hour before our 5:15 dinner so we just sat in the shade again.

We headed to Garden Grill about 15 minutes early and we were seated right away. Our server said the dining plan included a regular and an alcoholic drink, so ice tea and beers were ordered immediately. Pluto, Chip, and Mickey came around quickly and we got some nice pictures! We never saw Dale but we weren’t really there for the characters anyway. I knew I’d be hungry tonight but I wanted some “stomach safe” food before running again and Garden Grill always does a good job! We ate way too much, getting extra turkey, mashed potatoes, and rolls, plus we finished almost the entire skillet of entrees, all the strawberry shortcake, and some of the mac and cheese. It hit the spot!

We waddled slowly out of the park and back to our room where we watched some TV and went to bed! Another early morning tomorrow.
