Why I Gave Up on Walt Disney World

I’m talking about going from a park to a park.
You can easily go from DHS to Epcot or vice versa. You have the boat, skyliner and walking path as an option. You can also fairly easily go to Epcot from MK via monorail. AK usually isn't the latest park open so that likely isn't where you would want to go anyways.

Yeah. After 6p MK close, take the Riviera bus out of MK and then hop on a 5 minute Skyliner ride to Epcot.

Or you could take the CBR bus from MK, then jump on Skyliner to HS.

Skyliner lloks like it will help the long double bus connections it used to take to get park to park, or resort to resort. Now we should be able to take just one bus followed by a quick hop on Skylliner? I haven't tried yet though :P

Only for MK. Isn't it pretty much the same for any other destination?
I've seen people discussing Minnie Vans have better access to pick you up in your resort too. I haven't tried but many people don't mind the extra expense of the vans over regular Lyft because overall more convenient in certain situations. And also that sometimes it can be 15-20 Lyft wait, and hardly ever a Minnie Van wait.

Minnie Vans are really nice but very expensive compared to Lyft or Uber. I have used them multiple times but they are definitely a splurge vs. something I do regularly.

Let’s say you’re at a park that is closing early and you want to park hop to a park that’s open longer. How much time do you estimate getting from one park to another? Let’s say MK is closing early.

Less than an hour, depends on parks and chosen method of transportation. Going between MK and Epcot is when we usually plan in Trader Sam's, so that takes a few hours ;) .
Between Epcot and DHS I'd just walk and be done in 20 minutes. AK to Epcot we usually bus to YC/BW and walk in the IG. For DS to a park, walk to Saratoga and catch a bus. We park hop every day and haven't had a car on property since 2010 or used rideshares. It's not an ordeal.

WDW transport is manageable. Usually by the time a guest has returned enough to desire hopping around parks, resorts, restaurants & lounges, they've learned to do as you've explained. I really didn't mind being carless but DH was 'never again'. Probably because that left him nowhere to take his afternoon parking lot nap :P
Many agree that buses taking a bit longer is worth not having to deal with driving somewhere unfamiliar, and you can drink without concern. You can pop in out without voyaging out to parking lots each time. Pros/cons on each side.

I do think the rise of Uber/Lyft has really helped too as if you really want to get to a certain place by a certain time or when going resort to resort, etc. it really helps. And at like $8-10 trip it's cheaper than renting a car in most situations.

So using that combined with Disney Transportation I think you can get by just fine

This goes back to the general theme of my posts. You can have a good time if you pay up. The problem is that the number of pay ups have increased.

100% this.
When we don’t have a car, we usually will take the bus from our resort to a park but if we are going Resort to resort we will absolutely couch up the $10 to save an hours worth of aggravation getting there. Uber & lyft are lifesavers.

but it isn't like there was better bus transport between resorts before - this is just a new way to travel if you want. It's not like they had bus transport between resort and then took it away and then charged you for a new one

Don’t give them any ideas. You might start getting on transportation fee attached to your hotel bill.

You can certainly have a great time without buying anything other than normal park tickets. We do it every trip. We've never been to a Halloween or Christmas party. We've never done a paid after hours event. We've never done a dessert party. We've never done any paid add on experiences at Food and Wine or Flower and Garden or the Arts Festival. We also almost never make ADRs in advance and hardly ever book FPs in advance, even when our 30 day window opens as offsite guests. We still manage to have a great time and see and do pretty much everything we want to during our stay.

You may have a great time, but you won't know what you're missing until you crack open that wallet. Kidding :) lol

Honestly I'm with you and prefer to resist what I think is a needless expense. There's so much incredible stuff to do with what we already paid. DH is another story. He loves it and doesn't mind paying extra to maximize our experience. If it makes him happy, he deserves it and I'm in. Guess we balance each other out. He pushes me out of my comfort zone to splurge and enjoy life, and I cut the coupons so we can do it again.

This is pretty much me as well. I will make the occasional ADR but rarely. I have done one after party and a few of the dinner shows but in almost 100 trips I think I've done 3.

There is plenty to do without paying extra if you don't concentrate on all the things you aren't doing and concentrate instead on what you are.
