2019 Holiday Time at DLR Superthread: 11/08/19 - 1/06/20!

oops, feel free to delete this thread. I see reviews on the Holidays Super Thread.
Thank you

Hi ! Have any of you done the Holiday Guided Tour this year ?
Anyone have a review of this for this holiday season ?

Thank you

The quotes below from earlier in this superthread have a review of the Holiday Tour.

I just did the "Holiday Time" tour on Sat. We did not get FP for either attraction. We received 2 treats and delicious cocoa in a souvenir holiday mug. The pin is lovely and quite big. I won't ruin the surprise and show it. The seating is right in front of IASW, makes the whole tour. I do not know if its guaranteed, but they did take us on an attraction. Overall, I enjoyed the tour.
They took us on It's A Small World. It was AMAZING!!

For anyone who takes the Holiday Time Tour this year: Please report back on how the tour went and what you thought about it! TIA!

FYI: For those buying the holiday gift cards that come with a pin (available at WOD, not sure if they are at other locations), make sure the CM rings your gift card up correctly and activates the gift card. The cards can only be loaded with $100, no more, and any deviation can deactivate the card. It took us over an hour to get our gift card mix up resolved because a new CM had not known how to ring up the card, her lead let her make the mistake and authorized it, and when I returned to exchange what I thought was a dud card, it took a new lead and a different CM a lot of sleuthing to figure out the mistake (they hadn't seen it before) and how to fix it.

Is there a reason January 1st doesn't have MM or EMH hours? They are listed for 12/31 and 1/2, but nothing for 1/1. Is that normal?

We did the Plaza Inn parade dining package tonight... I remember someone earlier in this thread asked about substituting the fried turkey for the fried chicken. You can do this.

That was pretty much the only positive thing I have to say about the package. The fried chicken was delicious, but I wasn’t a fan of the stuffing or Mac n’ cheese sides. My daughter and I both hated the dessert. Had I known, I would have asked to sub out the dessert for something else. It’s some sort of cinnamon nut Bundt cake, not very “kid friendly.” My daughter liked the chicken tenders but hated the green beans. I wish there was a different option of veggies for kids. I wish I had asked about that, as well. We are very little of the food, it was very wasteful.

The viewing area was directly in front of and facing Main Street Station. There is not seating besides the ground and the two round benches. When we sat down on the curb, I noticed there were two open benches across the street. I really wished I’d walked over and sat there. When the parade started, the spotlights turned on and we were blinded by them. We couldn’t see the floats until they were directly in front of us. I am very sensitive to light and ended up having to look down to avoid the lights for the majority of the parade. It was pretty disappointing.

Next time, we will just grab spots on the opposite side of the street or up at the train station and eat what we want from Plaza Inn.

I think that's normal. The park is open until 1am or 2am on New Years Eve, so then on New Years Day there is no MM or EMH. Parking structure will only open an hour before rather than 90 minutes before. Only know this because I went to the park on New Year's Day last year

Thanks Midnight Star, I guess that makes sense, I am still surprised though.

Just saw on Twitter (Disneyland and DL AP accounts) say that tomorrow and Thanksgiving are closing one hour earlier than previously posted...10pm DCA and 11pm DL (posted times on App, I believe that is with the adjustment)

That’s surprising... though maybe the think it won’t be to crowded because of the rain I guess... or that everyone is ready to leave by that time anyways...

They did this earlier in the year. But that day it was a massive downpour. is the rain supposed to be that bad??

I think so. It's been big news for several days here in San Diego. We're being told to clean up our yards, etc due to coming flooding. I just cancelled our reservations for tomorrow. Even if we get to DL and have a couple hours of not too bad, the freeway has the potential of being a river on our way home. Safer to not spend time on the freeways.

Oh man! I’m home in Las Vegas for the holiday and a storm is brewing here too. And good choice for not driving in the rain! I’m hoping mudlisdes are kept to a minimum

I guess I am on a roll...
hurricane last year on Maui...(but it thankfully didn’t hit... they seldom do there)
And a now a storm in the area here...
anyways... let’s make the best out of it and stay save everyone!
And happy thanksgiving!

We are in San Diego as well and this rain is unreal! We went to Hotel Del Coronado for thanksgiving lunch and honestly I wish I’d just cancelled it- kind of a disaster between the weather completely eliminating most of the activities at the hotel and the construction. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Food was excellent but I feel like we missed out on the total experience and the cost... omg.

Question, next weekend is the CP, correct? The forecast is showing rain (I know things can change), but will they still do the CP if it's raining? I don't think I am going that weekend, but if I have time, I was thinking about stopping by.

Rain can cancel the show, but they will try very hard not to cancel if at all possible. A lot of people work very hard to make CP possible every year, so it is a huge disappointment when anything cancels the show. We've seen CP when it looked like the show couldn't go on, but a break in the weather allowed things, seemingly on short notice -- so rain in the forecast doesn't automatically mean the show's off. But if the rain is heavy enough or if it rains long enough, then the show will have to be called off.

Help needed from those with more experience in this area than I have! I've done both Disneyland in the rain, and the Candlelight Processional multiple times now. I've never experienced the 2 colliding. We will be at the DLR for Candlelight weekend, and had planned on doing DL/Candlelight on the 7th (my Birthday :)) and going to DCA on the 8th. However, its currently predicting 40% chance of rain on the 7th and 10% on the 8th. Of course, I know that may change. We are doing 1 park per day tickets to save $$, so we will need a plan before we enter the park for the day.

Does anyone know if they cancel CP if it rains? We will also be in one of the parks on the 9th, and have no plans to go on rides on our CP day. So, not worried about crowds or strategy. But very worried about missing it! TIA!!

I am curious about the same thing! We will be there on the 7th to watch the CP and I too, was curious if it gets cancelled due to rain. I really hope it doesn't! :santa:

Candlelight Processional information from today's (12/02/19) MP DLR Update:

Disneyland's Candlelight Processional takes place this Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8. Started by Walt Disney in 1958 as a community appreciation event, the show features a candlelight choir made up of cast members and community choir members, all accompanied by the Disneyland orchestra. Celebrity guest narrators read the Christmas story in between songs.
Disneyland rarely officially announces the celebrity narrator in advance, though word has sometimes leaked out early. In the past two years, it has managed lock down the rumor mill until the narrator stepped out for a pre-show sound check on Saturday afternoon, and we again have no idea who to expect at the podium this weekend.
After trying a few times to make this a larger public offering with dining packages and reserved viewing, Disney has returned to the practice of treating Candlelight as a private event that just happens to take place in the middle of an operating theme park. Invited guests include community and civic leaders, as well as media and Club 33 members.
It is very difficult for other visitors to get a perfect view of the show without devoting an entire day to saving a spot on Main Street, U.S.A. Still, this event has become an annual tradition for many of our readers, and we share tips from past years to hope you enjoy—or avoid—the Candlelight Ceremony and Processional as it takes over Main Street, U.S.A. for this most magical weekend.
Event schedule
There are two performances each day. The following is our best estimate of the schedule for Saturday and Sunday based on information provided by cast members and on previous years. This information is unofficial, and subject to change:
  • 4:45 p.m. – Seating of invited guests begins for the first performance.
  • 5:20 p.m. – The first processional begins.
  • 5:30 p.m. – The first ceremony begins at Town Square.
  • 7:15 p.m. – Seating of invited guests begins for the second performance.
  • 7:35 p.m. – The second processional begins.
  • 7:45 p.m. – The second ceremony begins at Town Square.
Standby viewing
You have some options if you want to view the ceremony. Standby viewing is very limited, and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Bench seating is available near the Christmas tree on the west side of Town Square; standing room-only locations are near City Hall, the Opera House, and any open spaces behind the seating area in Town Square. Viewing areas for the 5:30 p.m. performance opens at park opening (8 a.m. each day, with Extra Magic Hour and Magic Morning at 7 a.m. on Saturday), but viewing areas on the east side of Main Street are not available until after the 3:15 p.m. "A Christmas Fantasy" parade passes that location.
All guests must leave the viewing area after the first performance has concluded. The line for the 7:45 p.m. performance then forms at the south end of Main Street, as soon as the 5:20 p.m. Processional has passed.
Guests with disabilities may sit in any of these viewing areas. A special assistance viewing area will also be provided on the east side of the viewing area, outside of the Opera House.
Enjoy the processional
If you don't want to devote the day to saving the perfect spot on Main Street, you can still enjoy the Processional down Main Street, U.S.A. and hear the performers sing as they walk to the stage. Just grab an open spot along the curb on Main Street, between the Camera Shop and the Christmas tree. The first processional begins at 5:20 p.m., and the second at 7:35 p.m.
Operational effects
The performances on Saturday and Sunday affect numerous stores and attractions in the Town Square area. Based on past year's schedules, expect changes to the entertainment schedule, and attraction, food, and store closures to be in effect both days:
  • A Christmas Fantasy Parade – erformances at 12:45 and 3:15 p.m.
  • Main Street Vehicles – closed 12:30 p.m. to midnight
  • Main Street Opera House – closed 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.
  • Tomorrowland Theater – closed 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
  • The Mad Hatter on Main Street – closed 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.
  • The Disney Gallery – closed 4:45 to 9:00 p.m.
  • Town Square popcorn and churro carts – closed all day
  • Disneyland Railroad – closed during performances
  • Jungle Cruise – closed during performances
  • Wintertime Enchantment at Sleeping Beauty Castle – one performance at 7:00 p.m.
Traffic flow
Disneyland will again use the backstage passageways behind Main Street, U.S.A. If you don't need to be on Main Street between 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., take advantage of lighter crowds throughout the rest of the park.
