dvc rentals or davids

We have a reservation for April, currently through DVC. Process was pretty easy and we got exactly what we wanted (1 BR BLT). I like that they do not require full payment at the time of booking. I've heard nothing bad about David's, but I'm pretty sure they require full payment immediately.

It is true DVC tacks on a CC charge of 3-4 percent on dining plan addition and you can't use gift cards.
Yes, David’s does require full payment within 24 hours of securing a reservation. I used PayPal credit as payment for David’s and was able to pay it off interest free over 6 months. That helped offset the sticker shock of a big payment upfront.

Deleting all my comments on this thread due to accusations of trying to avoid DIS filters. I will give no more comments or advice on my experience with any DVC rentals.

Both brokers depend on owners with the points you need to make your reservation. If they don't have owners with enough home resort points, they can't fill that reservation. Or if it is one of the unicorn reservations like the AKV value villas or AKV concierge villas or even possibly the new Riviera resort, you might not get it with renting points.

I have used both and have had great experiences every time. I will say the customer service is a lot better at Davids.

Has anyone had experience renting a GF studio from david's before? I know there are so many factors that go into finding availability, but did you have trouble getting a reservation?

Those are very hard to get. You need an owner with GFV points and they may need to walk the reservation. A broker is not going to walk the reservation. One bedroom villas are not as difficult.

That makes sense and I figured those would be very difficult to get. Are the Poly studios about the same?

In general GFV studios do not need to be walked, save for a few specific times. Even right now there is nearly full availability for bookings July-November (even mostly available in Standard View). They go quick at 7 months when owners from other resorts can book as well but otherwise it's just going to take a rental company finding an owner in the 7-11 month window.

Thats good to hear too. I know it's all up to getting lucky pretty much. We plan to put in our request right at the 11 month window and hope for the best.

We have an upcoming reservation with 2 Poly studios booked at I think 9 months out possibly less. Took a while to find a member we needed a ton of points, but Poly availability itself wasn’t a problem for us (March trip).

GF had studio availability then FWIW, again our specific issue was securing a member with a large amount of points.

Curious - is Davids the go to from most owners POV? Good to know because like you were getting at, the more owners the better for us.
I've used Davids a number of times for renting out my BWV points. I've never had a problem doing so and have usually rented out my points within 1 to 3 days.

As an owner, I prefer to rent my points out through David's. They are much more accommodating to international owners.

I tried David's and they couldn't find me anything for the dates I wanted Went directly to DVC Dream Rentals and they hooked me up. I'll always use DVC Dream Rentals! And I love that they don't require a deposit like Davids. Seemed shady.

If David can't find you anything, it means there was nothing left to reserve. Or he didn't have any members with the points you needed at the time. The company you went with evidently had a spec reservation for the time you needed. If it doesn't exist on the DVC website, it's not available.

I'm using David's for the first time and was told they have no points for us 10 months out. Is staying in the que worth it or should I just make new plans?

Depends on the resort, the room category, the dates, and the amount of points you're waiting on, but we've had luck waiting 3/3 times.

I also waited and had luck around 10 months. If you ask they will give you advice about whether to stay in a queue and other possible availability (that being owners with points and DVC availability). In my case they told me they thought I had a good chance at the resort and category we originally wanted and it worked out.
