Rude behaviour and bad crowds

The crowd at MK was crazy yesterday and space was tight. This lady and her stroller were trying to get through. My sister saw what was going on and her and her 8 year old moved out of the path of the "lady" and my sister said "there you go". She was trying to help out another mom. This woman stops, looks at her and then proceeds to purposely check her with her shoulder. Hard and deliberate when passing. My sister loudly says"Excuse me!?". The woman stops, does not turn around, says something to her large husband who starts screaming at my sister "Get out of my wife's way, you old bag". Not a great first day experience. They both took off into the crowd. My sister has a huge welt on her shoulder. Her 8 year old was scared.

Is this type of stuff the norm on high crowd days? Saw a lot of angry ppl on sunday.

You get all sorts at MK. Some people are nice. Some people are visibly stressed. Some we can't technically describe on the DIS. And unfortunately encountering just one of the latter can ruin your day.

I hope your sister is ok, and hopefully you guys can push past it for the time being.

In over 15 trips I can say that it happens but it’s by no means the norm. We’ve had the occasional incident , but nothing that bad . I’m sorry that happened to your sister. That’s disgusting behaviour. I hope it doesn’t colour the rest of your trip and you enjoy yourselves .

Having an encounter with a rude guest is such an unmagical thing to have happen. The only thing worse would be to spend the whole day with those people, can you imagine what an awful day those people had with that attitude, passing on their anger with every step. Ugh! I trust the rest of your day was much more magical pixiedust:

Sometimes when I encounter angry or unreasonable people like that, I dismiss them as mentally ill - because they basically are. This way, I don't take it personally and just feel sorry for them instead. Helps me move on, anyway...vs getting angry myself and ruining my day. Maybe it'll help a little bit next time?

I read the OP's post to my wife and she just said, "It looks like that couple went in looking for a fight." Who knows?

As starvenger said, you can see how stressed out some folks get at Disney and the MK in particular.

We went over Christmas in 2009, arriving on the 19th and for the first few days everything was fantastic. It was busy but most folks were in a pretty good mood. Lots of "Merry Christmas" greetings and such. It was around the 22nd that you could see a change coming as it got more crowded. Lots of short tempers, a few "This trip cost a fortune and you'd better have fun!" explosions from parents and the one that just amazed me, a girl who looked to be about 12 had a total meltdown because she finished her Coke while waiting in line for a ride. A total crying and screaming meltdown.

My guess was that there were suddenly a lot of families who did long drives, perhaps nonstop- as many people on these boards describe, and once they arrived they hit the parks without recovering from the drive. More than likely MK was the first one on their list.

Enjoy the rest of your trip! Chances are you won't see them or anyone like them again.

It's tough. WDW isn't as simple as it was when I was a kid. You really do have to have a gameplan and organize yourselves when you make the trip.

And it's stressful for some people, especially if it's a "once in a lifetime" trip and they're trying to get the most out of their experience. Not excusing those that are rude or anything, but I can definitely see how going to MK might not be the "happiest" experience for some.

Entitled rude, obnoxious people are not “ mentally ill” they are just flat out a@@@.
as someone who has struggled with eating disorders and postpartum please don’t label bad behaviour as mental illness. It’s insulting to those who have actually struggled. In no way trying to be a SJW just wanted you to see it from a different perspective

Thank you for saying that. You can see from my signature that i manage a mental health issue myself, in fact, it's often used as the go-to comment when someone commits a senseless act of violence: "they must be off their meds" I do my best to keep my mouth shut when i hear people toss the "crazy" word out there or comment on someone having bad mood-swings. It's not right to lump in plain old bad behaviour and privileged actions under the umbrella of mental illness, it sure as heck doesn't give me permission to treat others like crap!

Bless you, dear one. Love your comment so much.

Dear OP, that is shockingly rude and horrible. Your sister is a better person than me, because I honestly don't know if I could have turned the other cheek in that situation. And, that horrible comment would have hurt me so badly and affected me a bit for the rest of the day (even though I shouldn't let it).

I think most of us can come up with one or two negative examples.

However, for me, I find they are the exception to the rule so they stand out.

I think it far better to focus on the vast majority of the time where im both having positive experiences as well as sharing my joy and creating positive experiences for others.

This i struggle with myself. I find it very hard for me to let these negative experiences go. But i recognize life is short and im getting better at it.
Last trip I was at EPCOT. A lady on a motorized chair thingy ran into the back of my leg. It really hurt! I turned around to see what had happened and, being the good Canadian I am, I said " I'm so sorry". To which she replied "well, you'd better be". Yikes. Smile and keep going.

This is terrible, your sister was assaulted. This is not just the regular behaviour of a rude or inconsiderate Disney guest. I've been ankle crashed by the best. I hope she didn't let this bully ruin her day. I would be very upset if that happened to me.

Physical violence with one on one contact like that - no. But verbal confrontations and using strollers as battering rams to get through crowds - yes. No doubt in my mind the honeyed DW ads showing families skipping through a sunny, empty park contributes to this. DW media is not 100% to blame for terrible guest behaviour. But it does contribute to that unrealistic fantasy attitude. In heavy crowds, you can literally see the shock and then anger wash across guest faces as they realize 1) it's crowded 2) I can't move 3) I won't get to do everything I planned and 4) I spent way too much money for this. Then the gloves come off as guests decide to fight the crowd to get what they think they deserve. And what they think they paid for. DW knows the parks are over crowded and recent steps to increase prices to control crowds proves it. You can argue guests should know better and should have done their homework. But my disney experience is one of the worst, least user friendly interfaces we have experienced. I don't think this problem is going to get better. Only worse.

Wow that’s discusting. I think bad behaviour is on the rise. We were in DCA going on Guardians of the Galaxy (ToT with new theming). We were just in the elevator, and were right in front of the doors that exit onto the ride when 2 girls in their 20’s pushed us aside and pushed their way to the door. When the people around us saw they said something to these girls who then turned around hurling curses at everyone.
In hindsight I should have said something about it to the cm at the elevator but we were so shocked we did nothing. Up until that trip we never encountered that kind of behaviour.

I would be a bad person to be around in this situation as there is about a 60% chance that I'd escalate the situation and make it worse. I really don't like to put up with crap like that.
