On Board Activity Cancellations

We're going on our first Disney cruise with our friends in February. They have cruised with Disney several times and have an earlier booking window since they are silver. It's only a 3 night cruise (with fewer options for everything) and we're first timers so everything they booked was sold out by the time we could check in.

I'd love to do a Palo brunch and hopefully be able to go to a couple of the tastings with my friends, however I know that's not necessarily possible. Is it worth checking for any cancellations before the cruise, or is that a waste of time and I should just wait to see if I can get any of them when we get on board? Our port time is 10:45, and we're hoping to get on the ship pretty early to maximize our time on a short cruise.

Yes, keep checking the activities reservations all the way up to leaving for your cruise. There are people who book things "just in case" and then cancel them just before the penalty date arrives.

If nothing opens up, of course you should check once onboard.

Keep checking. People cancel their activities for a variety of reasons, and there is no penalty to cancel (as long as it is >24 hours before).

Be sure to join the Disboards and FB groups for your cruise. Members often announce when they are planning to cancel something.

I saw a lot of cancellations pop up in the two weeks before the cruise; that seemed to be when everyone second guessed if they needed their bookings.

Thank you! I wasn't sure if it was worthwhile to continue checking, but I will. Between looking for cruise activity cancellations, checking for magic bands, and hoping for Universal hotel discounts I have a refresh routine all set up!

A little clarification, in order not to incur penalty fees (it being charged to your onboard account), excursions need to be cancelled 3 days prior to cruise start date. Onboard activities can be cancelled up to 24 hours ahead of the actual activity with no penalty.

They hold some reservations for on board booking. The Navigator you receive when you check in at the port will have information regarding where to go to make reservations for Palo brunch, tastings, and other activities. We have made reservations for both Palo brunch and tastings once we boarded. We also made a reservation for Palo dinner as we were leaving brunch, for later in the cruise... There are Navigators posted online. Find one for a cruise similar to yours' and view the Navigator to see where the information is located.

While this is true, don't let it stop you from checking while onboard. If they can resell the excursion, they will allow guests to cancel without penalty. We've had friends be able to get in on excursions onboard that had been full previously because someone cancelled while on board. I think they did have a waiting list - at least for one particular excursion they wanted once - and they managed to get in on it at the last minute. So do try and see what's possible once you get on board.
