Change stateroom near elevators

Was just looking at availability for my sailing and I noticed a block of staterooms open forward of the room I reluctantly chose (through my TA) at booking. Currently in 9030 which is port side forward and adjacent to the forward elevators. My concern is that I will hear elevator and stairwell traffic late at night. The stateroom reviews all indicate it is quiet, but the posters also may be heavy sleepers.

I am thinking about seeing if I can change cabins to one further forward on the hallway, 9016ish maybe, or in the alternative, something on the starboard side, if anything is actually available over there. This is the first time I have used a TA in many years, do I have to go through my TA for this room change and if so, am I being a PITA in asking him to do this for me. Seems like he has already earned his money and I feel like a bother for even asking.

You certainly can change the room, if you wish. Yes, your TA must do this. That's what he gets paid to do.

I'll also point out the elevators being close are not that noisy. They are in a separate lobby from where the rooms are.

I would say no to both of your questions. It is not bothering your travel agent to have him or her change your stateroom: that's a basic part of a T.A.'s job. And no, I wouldn't change the room location due to a worry about noise from other passengers. It's the luck of the draw whether a stateroom will get other-passenger noise on any given cruise, because it's based on who is in the rooms around you, and who is in your hallway, and you can never control that. There was only one out of 5 cruises where we had an issue with passenger noise, and that was due to a neighboring family giving their rowdy young boys their own stateroom, which was right across from us. I'm sure those parents were happy to not have the boys in their stateroom, but it made the hallway louder for everyone else.

as mentioned above, the rooms do not open directly into the elevator lobby - there is an opening from the hall that is not directly across from a stateroom door that opens into the elevator lobby.

that said, if you want to change than change. A few more steps forward for peace of mind is worth it!

In my opinion, it's a good location. The elevators will not bother you and your room will be very easy to reach. I do not like walking down those boring corridors.... But that is just me

The forward elevators are also the quieter set of elevators as they go up to the adult section and the spa. I would think they are less traveled for that reason. We have been near them on the 7th floor and heard nothing that kept us awake at night.

I was recently on deck 2 (of the Wonder) by the forward elevators. I was trying to be very critical of noise so it was something I could report back about. While I could hear people moving through the corridors if I was awake sometimes, nothing ever woke me up. Basically the only people passing my room were the people in the rooms more forward than mine. So it could've actually been quieter than someone close to the midship elevators (which I feel more people use) because there aren't a ton of rooms located that way.

Like someone else said, though, a lot of it will depend on who is in the rooms around you, too. Loud/rude people could be found anywhere.

We stayed just across from the doorway to the midship elevators on the Fantasy. There were no problems and that's a pretty busy area!

You would be closer to the Cove if someone has to go up for Morning coffee!

We usually do pick a room fairly close to elevators. Noise has not ever been a problem.

We had a room very close to the forward elevators on floor 5, and I was worried about noise, but there was absolutely none, and I really enjoyed the convenient location. I would actually choose the same area again.

I've done 2 or more cruises that had our stateroom close to aft elevators and other than elephant herd kids on this last cruise I heard squat.

The rooms right next to midship or forward elevators are actually our preferred rooms! Everyone is different-so if you are worried, then you may want to change. But we never noticed the noise from the elevators at all and I am a very light sleeper.

We actually book near the elevators for convenience and never hear a sound from them.
We do the same. We have been on the Magic, Wonder, and Fantasy with midship staterooms as close to the elevator lobby as possible. Elevator noise has never been a problem. Once (out of 17 cruises), on the Fantasy, we had a group of young people who would run up and down the stairways late at night, creating a bit of a ruckus, but this was the only time we were even aware of the traffic in or near the elevator lobby.

OP you did not mention the ship that you are sailing. Since the Magic and Wonder have “adult only” areas forward of the midship elevators on deck three in the evening/night it also helps reduce noise traffic.

I share that because we have been near elevators on a couple occasions and the only noise we had was due to kids playing around. Last one some tweens were jumping up and down in the elevator lobby area at 11 pm. I did kindly ask them to stop. When they started back up I just called guest services. Other than that the only noise was normal low level hallway noise.

Night was no issue M. But we did hear families talking loudly leaving early for excursions 2 doors from elevator on magic in Europe. It was more of a mild annoyance as I am a very light sleeper. If you’re an early riser then no worries. Kids didn’t hear them as they’re over by the window. If it was the only cabin I’d still be happy to have it again.

Perfect! I am an early riser and very light sleeper, as is my husband. I knew a fellow light sleeper would pop up. Thank you!

And thank you to everyone else who has given opinion on this issue. I will keep my current room. It should be fine.

If you want to change your room, that's what a TA's job is so I wouldn't let that deter you. But we've frequently stayed near an elevator lobby on all four ships and I don't find them terribly noisy. There's less traffic at the aft or forward elevators than at mid-ship but we've been at aft and mid ship and they're still both fairly quiet. Most of the traffic will be during the day with much less in the evening. The only time it's noisy is if you have kids running up and down the hallways or yelling which is pretty independent of where your room is. We actually usually pick near the elevators (mostly we prefer aft now) for convenience after a long day.
