Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Hi Everyone!!
If I book the poly it will be through DVC, the only option is standard or lake. So I believe I would be in Moorea if I do lake. My question is, what are the chances I will get a top floor?
The ONLY reason I would book lake is to see the castle but the bungalows are in the way unless you're top floor.
Also, what is the best way to make that request?

Thank you!
We had a ground floor Moorea and could watch the fireworks and electric light parade from patio and my grandson’s bunk in the room. We’ve got a standard room next trip and I’m already disappointed. It was awesome!

Good to know! Some reviews made it sound like the ground floor was awful. Hey it's the Poly! No matter what it will be amazing!

You are correct, Moorea is the only DVC longhouse with lake view rooms. It would be a 33.33% chance of getting the top floor since the rooms are evenly distributed between first, second, and third. Top floor is probably requested a lot, but someone has to get it! Since you said you will book through DVC you will need to contract Member Services to make the request. If you are renting DVC points, the person securing the reservation for you would need to contact Member Services.
Thank you! I will be booking through David's. Now last time I booked a DVC I used my family's points, but I called myself to make any requests

View from balcony of 1916 Tokelau a few weeks back. Probably have fireworks photos or video on another phone but haven't downloaded yet. Can also see (and hear) Electric Light Parade from the balcony.

Hopefully this will be my final few questions to help me choose! I recently discovered that the Poly is only a few points less than a 1 bedroom Boardwalk Villa.

So I have to choose between a 1 bedroom w a kitchen and washer and dryer. Or a Studio with none of that but a monorail, better food and fireworks view.

We are a family of 5, 3 kids (12,10,6) so super worried about feeling crammed. And also worried that the Poly is a "hectic and busy" resort. I don't want to wait in a long line for a coffee or food. And coming back from the parks to another busy place

Please give me your input Poly vets!

Not in your same situation (anymore) as we are just a couple traveling alone most of the time these days. We have made two trips this year and stayed at AKL, PolyX2, VWL and BWV and to us there is no comparison, it's Polynesian by far compared to any of the others.

I asked this question on the Club Level thread, but thought some Poly experts here might know the answer.
Is it allowed for us to order the Twilight Feast and eat it in the CL lounge instead of our room?

While I haven't done it with the Twilight Feast, we have with other outside providers and it was not an issue. We always preferred to have our take out on the third floor lounge area around the tv. :sunny:

Even if you have to smuggle this in to the Club Level inside multiple sets of Mickey Ears, DO IT! We had this one night on our trip last month, it was a lot of food for the 2 of us (we even had leftovers) and it was excellent. This was one order not two. Waited about 45 minutes or so for it maybe but the CM that delivered set everything up for us and was extremely nice. Tip is included in the bill but since everything arrived hot and looking great we added another $10. We still felt it was a great value (given we were in Disney World) and look forward to doing it again.

All rightly friends, the KC Mouse family needs your help. I am currently planning our dinning for our next vacation. Obviously I am staying here at the Poly! We are so excited to finally have the Disney vacation I have been dreaming about. Now, I only have one problem. When I go to book dinning, I have a hard time committing to anything outside of the Poly. I kind of feel like that Poly is one of the best food locations on WDW property. I fear that we wont utilize it to our fullest extent if we use the extra time to travel from reservation to reservation. What do you all think? Am I making a huge mistake?

I definitely agree that the Poly is one of the best food locations on property. The only thing it's really lacking is Signature dining, but being next door to the GF and on the monorail opens a slew of options. For your dilemma, I really think it depends on how long your trip is. If you want to minimize travel time, stick to the other monorail resorts. GF is within walking distance and CR is only 3 stops on the monorail.

I also suggest doing the Twilight Feast, which is the room service version of 'Ohana dinner. You can always get an ADR for 'Ohana, but this a really special treat only available when you're a Poly guest.

Obviously dining is highly subjective... but for us....we’ve stayed at Poly numerous times but rarely ever eat there, with the exception of the Oasis Bar & Grill. I don’t really know why, I guess we just tend to find ourselves other places and making time for Kona or Ohana just doesn’t work out. Different strokes for different folks though.

You should do what is best for you and your family. I highly recommend the Twilight Feast. We've done it twice now (we've only stayed at the Poly twice). I definitely prefer it to Ohana and we only order 1 serving for the 2 of us...plenty of food. We always make time for at least one breakfast at Kona (gotta love Tonga Toast and french press coffee) and even enjoy Capt. Cooks too....but we are foodies and really enjoy eating at multiple places at WDW, including other resorts. Have you tried Whispering Canyon at WL or Grand Floridian Cafe at GF? Lots of fun choices at Disney Springs and Epcot!

Thanks for the advice. I have a family of 5 and 3 are teens so the signature dining is not our bag. But you make a good point about utilizing the monorail. We love dinning at the Grand Cafe and The Wave. I think I will take you up on that Twilight Feast. Sounds like the perfect meal after half a day at Magic Kingdom.

Wow! I have never herd of someone skipping Ohana or Kona. You guys have got to try it!

Thanks for the suggestions. As it stands now we are scheduled for the following.
Day 1 Travel Day, Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show. (I have herd terrible reviews but my kids are dying to try it.)
Day 2 Magic Kingdom, The Grand Cafe
Day 3 Hollywood Studios,Woody's Lunchbox
Day 4 Epcot, Snack around the world.
Day 5 Animal Kingdom, Trader Sams
Day 6 Rest Day, Ohana Dinner
Day 7 Hollywood Studios, Star Wars Land food.
Day 8 Magic Kingdom, The Wave
Day 9 Travel Day, Kona Cafe

This is our current plan. What do you all think?

When is your trip? That would really affect what you're doing on your Epcot day imo. We will be hitting up food booths at lunch for one of ours, but have a QS backup because we're going during Flower & Garden and I don't find enough booths there to make a meal the way I do during Food & Wine. We also have a TS dinner planned at Garden Grill. Also, Woody's Lunchbox has great food but the seating situation is a horror show, enough to make us skip it next time. And if you're going there during the day, any time besides winter, the heat is oppressive. I was just down there on a quick solo trip and was going to try breakfast there because it wasn't too crowded and it was cool, but opted for a Ronto Wrap instead.

My one suggestion would be to make sure to bake in resort time. That was the one regret we had from our first Poly stay last year and it's why we extended next May's trip by two more days. Also, Trader Sam's is not really full meal type food per se, more like a light tapas menu, so you may want to supplement that with something else (possibly Capt Cook's).

I mean how many times will you need to do the laundry? And how much will you really be cooking in WDW? I found the Poly's laundry room to be easily accessible and fairly empty if this can help...
I didn't think the resort was too busy either, nothing like the GF anyway I had no problem in getting a coffee in the cafe near the monorail. I also think the pool at the Poly is a better choice for your kids, with the volcano slide and the smaller slide on the splash area (not the baby one the other).

I like it! We really liked The Wave and your day 4 of Epcot snacking around the World, I really like. We will be there next week and it'll be Festival of the Holidays. We plan on making that our dinner one night....trust me, I've found plenty to fill me up with those food booths! I'm not too sure about food at Trader Sams, can you get in there if you are under 21? Maybe up to a certain time of the day but after that, I'm pretty sure it's a bar, isn't it? Make sure you try Ronto Roasters.....they are very good and filling!
