Peloton Ad

Exactly, my husband has always worn an undershirt under certain shirts, and I always equated it to why I wear tank tops under things. Not just the sweat thing, but also I have seen a lot of men's button up shirts that are very see through due to the light color and fabric. Thankfully, my husband no longer has to dress up for work, but we still have a couple nice undershirts around in case he does need to dress up at all.
Yuppers! ITA. I think it's just one of those things some people do ya know?

I can see where people see it as problematic. The fact that she doesn’t seem overjoyed at the gift (the weepy eyes) is the issue for most. If you think your commercial needs a prequel, maybe rework the commercial.

The woman already appears fit to I would hope a majority of the people viewing it, so why present it as a “here honey, I bought this for you to get fit.”

The commercial could have been that she had been in an accident and her PT recommend a stationary bike. Or they’ve just moved across country from friends and family she used go to spin class with. (I know when I looked into one, they allow you to create a custom ride, so it would advertise a feature.) Or she has gone back to school and is missing out on spin classes with her friends.

I personally would take one in a second if it was gifted to me (or would buy one after a lottery win). I have found the tweets joking about the $10,000 custom built rooms in $2 million dollar houses to house your $3,500 stationary bike that you pay $39 per month to take virtual spin classes using pirated music much more inspirational (and funnier) than any of their ads.

Why should the commercial be anything other than a fit woman using something to stay fit?
Or a thin woman using exercise equipment to exercise?
Why does there need to be a back story to show she needed for some other reason than just plain old wanting to stay fit, trim and healthy?
What do people have against a person maintaining their weight, and healthy lifestyle?

On the undershirt thing, dh wears them under a button up shirt. I buy him the colored ones, he hates the white ones.

But it’s marginal. In the studies I have found, people just eat more.

Heart Association’s current guidance is for 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week plus weight training. I doubt most people get the minimum in each week.

Where are on earth do you get this stuff? It's such nonsense. Holy moly.

I have a Peloton and love it, it was a gift from my husband. I never once thought it was given to me for any other reason than to be nice. I've seen this Peloton ad multiple times in the past couple of weeks and never once did I think anything was off about it, I'm surprised by the reaction. I was not someone that worked out prior to owning the bike (like ever!), but since receiving it about a year ago I am at 316 rides and LOVE my bike that goes nowhere! Getting up early in the morning isn't easy, but the second I clip in, I'm so happy I did.

The bike subscription includes many other types of activities such as meditation, stretching, yoga, running, walking, bootcamp, cardio, and strength classes. All of this can be accessed through the bike screen, a smartphone, iPad (or other tablet), and on your TV via an Amazon Fire TV (I haven't done this yet, so am not exactly sure how it works). There are workout programs for getting ready for marathons, strength training (such as "crush your core", total body, etc.). Honestly, there is so much more than just the bike, it's pretty incredible and I feel, 100% worth the cost of the bike and monthly fee. I was someone that didn't work out before, but now do some sort of workout on a daily basis and I look forward to it, that's incredible all on its own. My health has improved, as evidenced by my last physical. I wasn't looking to lose weight when I started, but heart disease does run in my family and I feel good knowing I am doing what I can to not be a statistic.

There is also a hugely supportive community (on FB) that is associated with the Peloton. There are groups that appeal to everyone. So, Peloton may not be for everyone, but for those that it resonates with, it's pretty wonderful! :)
But do you have anything to say about t-shirts? ;)

Seriously, you *almost* make me want to get one. Emphasis on "almost".

Nobody has anything against a person maintaining their weight and a healthy lifestyle. Seriously. I haven´t once seen someone being shamed for that (I can´t say the same for people that are on the extreme of fitness).
Usually it´s the people that are overweight or really underweight and sedentary that gets shamed.
I understand you´re a person that enjoys all that and I understand why this backlash may rub you the wrong way, but I don´t see how you can perceive that as an attack on fitness and athletic people when we´re living in an age of fitness being so important people get paid to look fit on instagram.

Oh yes, I meant to say my husband wears an undershirt under polo and button-ups, we're on the west coast. I pretty much wear a camisole all the time. :)

I said nothing about individuals being shamed, I asked why people have an issue with a person maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle (or something to that effect).
We will just have to agree to disagree, I think the backlash and the cries of sexism this ad has received plus all the "other scenerios" people think the company should have used shows pretty clearly that they have an issue with it, specifically when it's a thin, presumably already fit woman. They can't accept that the woman just wants the bike and wants to use it, if they could there would be no backlash over it. It would just be a commercial that only the people interested in Peloton would pay attention to.

In case the buttons gape over the boobs? ;) That's my reason for wearing tanks under button down shirts.

HAHAHA oh goodness no, I do not have the boobs for that at all. I actually don't ever wear button down shirts, I hate them. but I like having a tank under most shirts for the smoothness factor and in case a shirt is too sheer.

I hate them, too. Unfortunately the only shirts I have with my company logo are button downs, so I have to wear them on occasion when visiting customers.

Maybe I missed it, but where does it say that resistance training doesn't do much for burning calories, as you claim? Or were you saying that it does increase burn, but people just eat more to "compensate"? Not sure which you meant. If it's the latter, then yes, that does happen. But it depends on your goals. If the goal is body composition, you need to eat more to maintain muscle built. If it is fat reduction, you still may eat more to keep some muscle but not all. For example, I lift hard, but don't eat enough to get 200+lbs.

I find all these ads for gifts that cost multiple thousands of dollars to be a tad "eye-roll" -ish. Totally out of my price range, my circle of friends/acquaintences, etc. Do people, on a regular basis, give presents that cost $4000?
