What time of day is the best time to upgrade tickets?

I originally bought 1 park per day tickets but I changed my mind and I want a park hopper. Our flight gets into LAX at 6:50 and both parks open at 9 so I’d rather just get into the park as fast as possible rather than waiting in line in the previous morning time to upgrade my ticket. But at the same time, I’d like to get it upgraded fairly early so I can get Fastpasses for both parks (we have Maxpass). What time of day would it be best to upgrade my ticket without waiting in line? I just know I’ve seen that line really long before and it seems like such a waste of time. (By the way our first park day is Wednesday, January 15th)

Does your flight get in at 6:50 am, and you are going to the park that day? Or do you fly in the night before? I've always had good luck visiting the ticket booths at night, except for our last trip. We arrived at about 7 pm on a Friday night, only the ticket booths on the west side were open, and we waited nearly an hour. Even at that, I'd still try the evening rather than morning if possible.

Yes, our flight arrives at 6:50 AM and we are going straight to the park.

In that case, I would spend my morning in Disneyland, and then wait until closer to noon to go to the ticket booth. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you can book maxpass for the opposite park even if you don't have a park hopper. (Obviously you couldn't actually enter the other park to redeem it), I know that when one I've used one park per day tickets, I could still see what was available on maxpass in the opposite park.

In the past when I’ve had a 1 park per day ticket I could see what was available but when I tried to confirm the FP it wouldn’t let me

I was the only one in line about 7am on a Monday morning during halloween time. But the lines built quickly after that. I would eyeball it when you arrive, and if it looks long, check back later in the morning. Since you are flying into LAX, with traffic at rush hour on a weekday, you may not get to the parks until 9am anyway.

I had a hopper ticket with MP, that I upgraded to an AP with MP.
I scanned in through the gates with my hopper ticket, rode a ride or two and then went out to upgrade to an AP.

When I came back in to the parks with my AP, I found I had both tickets on the APP. So for the day I was able to make double MaxPasses. I saw it as a little Pixie Dust for the day.

If you upgrade early in the day, you might find the same thing when you look at the APP.

Good luck
