Riviera resale restrictions lifting: possible

I am like a stuck record here, but:

Disboards DVC threads, 2013- "DVC is fantastic, buy it, love it, even with grumbles it is great, best timeshare on earth, good resale etc etc". This is exactly the vibe that led me to research further, not just dismiss, and buy in. Everyone happy.

Disboards DVC threads 2019- Some good but lots of "Restrictions, rip off, hard sell, restictions, cannot use at 14, restrictions, blue card vs white card, points re allocation, lock off premium, cannot trust management, POS, greed".

If I had looked in 2019, rather than 2013, well first of all I would have thought I do not understand what is going on here- white v blue, restrictions and what the hell is a POS etc- life is too short for this, and second, it looks quite 'dodgy' as I suspected, I will leave well alone.

They took the world's leading timeshare, a massively profitable product anyway, with great efficacy, and basically damaged its reputation- for what? $$$$$ is what.

Now ironically us moaners on here can see through it and still think it is pretty good (albeit many will not buy Riviera)- But as a newbie reading about what has happened?
the lock-off premium is really what has me most concerned. Resale restrictions aren't great -- but the 2020 chartpocolypse, to me, was unconscionable.

Maybe, but that's assuming 100% of those 30 people know about walking and will do it diligently and succesfully for 4 months. I'd say that outside of the very small Disboards bubble, that percentage is pretty small.

Don't worry it will be all over youtube. DIS, Kay, Tracker, and everyone else will be doing a video on it for the clicks. We'll maybe not to that extent but word will spread especially as people don't have options like everyone does today for other resorts.

Honestly a better restriction would be RIV or SSR nothing else.

More would know about walking than you think. i was introduced to walking by my guide no more than 10 minutes after signing the contract.

How could the youtube people show it with out being an actual member? The Dis crew are defiantly members but I don't think Kay or the Trackers are

Plenty of their viewers are and someone would give them a login or screenshare to let them record it.

My point was more so it will be all around if it gets that bad. Like someone else said though it doesn't take many people to be walking to bog down the system.

I learned about walking here within a couple of months after buying a contract and not understanding how I couldn't book the room I wanted after several tries at 8am. There are other wdw related sites that also have the same information. The worst part about walking is that I feel it is wrong and goes against the "spirit " of how you should book your room. But if you want that rare room you have to do it. I have just ended my walk for a room in Nov 2020 which I would never would have had a chance for if I did not walk.

I've done it once and it was for two days before the actual 7 months to get the Savanna view at Kidani for our Honeymoon. I thought I would have to do it again for Nov 2020 but Riv is wide open for Preferred rooms

RIV will have the benefit of having new declared rooms and a smaller member pool for a while. Be interested to see what is hard to book at RIV compared to what we think today especially with these new point charts.

That's what I figured as well. I was surprised to see tower and standard view gone for the most part of fall though but I think that will open up winter at Riv. I've been watching the availability to see how well it's doing and for the most part it is fully booked till May for points

I agree with this sentiment. Within hours of beginning my initial research on purchasing DVC, I learned about walking and how to do it. The information on it is in various locations out there and it is not hard to find. All it takes is for someone to miss out on one reservation and then they will google booking DVC rooms or DVC availability and they will learn about walking. I wholeheartedly agree that walking is against the "spirit" of the booking rules.
