New Credit Card Authorization Holds

Correct, or at least that is my understanding as well.
That's what I figured but it amazes me how many of these Disney groups give out inaccurate information
I am so confused in regards to this. I had planned on paying with the Magic Bands, and then using gift cards to pay it off at the front desk at night. Is this still viable? It is our first time on site so it is our first time using MB to charge.

Yes you can still use gift cards to pay down your balance but if you’re going to use your magic band for charges you have to link a credit card to your reservation in order to do that. If you choose not to link a credit card which is an option then you will just need to bring a Gift cards with you and pay things as you go or use cash also without linking a card to your reservation you will not have the ability to do online check in ahead of time you will need to check in once you get there. You will be subjected to a $100 hold at check-in and anytime you charge over that amount, another $100 hold will be placed. That's why many choose not to do it.

Thanks for such a speedy response! At what amount will they actually charge the credit card that I link? Or is that inconsistent?

When I was there in September the $100 hold was placed when we checked in .My sister is the one who charged a lot back to the room I very rarely did it LOL before the end of the trip she went down to pay it off but at that point we had about $500 in holds on the credit card that dropped off a couple of days after we checked out

They will initially put a $100 pre-authorization in the credit card. I received an alert from the bank about 6 am, while sitting at the airport waiting for our flight to Disney.

HAHA I am shocked Citi didn't lock my card for fraud. The whole balance for 2 resorts was paid via GC, but I am laughing at my pending charges dating back to 12/7 when I checked out of my first resort 12/11 (one mobile order snuck in there because the Captain Cook's line was INSANE!) 🤣

FWIW - we stayed at Pop two weeks ago for a week. Charged (almost) everything on our bands. Not once was there a hold....I checked it multiple times... So weird.

Is this still an issue any longer? Meaning the multiple holds forcing you to need double the amount on your cards than what is needed? It seems most of this topic stopped and has not been discussed much in 2020? I have not been back in 7 years, so I am wondering if I should or should not use my magic bands for food in the park?

Yes. I was at YC for 4 nights in Nov. and had the $100 hold for 3 of those days.

Here is what I am being told: "You are able to make room charges toward that amount if you would like and would not be charged again until you went over that threshold. If you did not charge anything back to the room at all, it would just be that flat fee that would be removed upon checkout (unless there are damages, etc to the room.)"

My question is - if you go over the $100 hold on day 1 - do you pay the $100 and any over amount that day and it resets to another $100 hold for day 2.? Do they take the amount over $100 as soon as you go over it?

It was multiple. $100 on each of 3 days I went over. Came off my credit card within a week of being home.

I am already checked in online. So I will let them charge the initial $100 on arrival day. But this information has confirmed my choice of paying with credit/debit card for all table service restaurants.
I know the mobile app orders only pulls from your Apple Pay or credit/debit card on file, so that will not impact an additional $100 hold. But I was really wanting to use the Magic Bands at table service restaurants, but I will whip out the card instead. Thank you.

I still have a little over $300 in holds I’m waiting to come off my CC from my Thanksgiving week trip. They seem to be dropping off daily, and tomorrow will be a week since we came home, so I expect most will drop off by Monday. Most of the hold, aside from about $30, was from last Friday when I did a lot of shopping at Epcot, so it’s been a full week since they went on and we’re still there this morning even though the charge has already gone through.

We put all TS on a different card, never used our bands for it, just for this reason. At QS it was mobile order so it went straight to the card, and we only paid for Epcot food booth stuff and merch with our bands (I didn’t want to have to keep pulling out my wallet for that). It worked well, and I almost feel like the waiters expected a card, and never saw them scan anyone’s bands (less need with no DDP).

So you have the charges and holds both?
So if you were not anticipating that, you would either be overdrawn on a debit card or pushing your credit limit on a credit card it sounds like.
Magic Band will only be used to get into park and unlocking our room door at this point. Thank you.

I agree - we are headed down in 19 days and I will also be using my Magicband only for Room entry and Park entry. I do not need the hassle of a hold on my card each day.
