She Dodged a Hurricane, Skipped School, and Adopted a Porg, a September 2019 TR at Copper Creek Villas at WL (Completed 12/18)

I'm glad Jon and Brandy enjoyed their tour! I did KTTK back in 2015 and LOVED it - I highly recommend it!

Your dinner at Shula's sounds fantastic! I'm honestly a little nervous to bring a toddler with me to a signature restaurant, but I feel better with your comments that you felt fine at California Grill with your kids. I've certainly seen plenty of kids at the signatures, but it's nice to hear that direct feedback!

The last evening is always a bummer. At least you had just a few months until your next trip - having your next trip planned makes the Disney blues less severe!

Allie and I shared a car, she steered while I pushed on the pedal.
Those pedals are really hard to push and sometimes out of reach for the kids. I've had to push the pedal for the kids almost every time.
Allie got mad that the people behind us had their phone lights on for the whole dark section, but there's nothing we could do about that.
I would have been mad, too.
On the way to WL Marshall made friends with some college program girls, and even wound up inviting them to our room. That kid is gonna be trouble...
The girls probably loved it. :)
They both were pretty overwhelmed with all of the info that they gave them.
We did the KTTK tour several years ago and there is a so much information that it is hard to remember it all. We really enjoyed the tour and a good tour guide makes a big difference. Ours got a little long winded when we were in the underground tunnels and our tour went 45 minutes overtime. But other than that it was great. :) I would do it without kids if possible, though.
They are nice resorts, and in a great location. They did lack the "Disney feel" for me though, but they were fine to visit.
They have a nice pool area but the resorts themselves aren't very exciting.
We were slightly uncomfortable rolling in with the kids when there were people hanging around in suits. There was a convention dinner going on at the same time but we felt under-dressed and way out of place.
I didn't realize people dressed up for this restaurant. I'm sure they were used to seeing lots of families like yours, though.
Overall the meal was the most expensive of our trip, and probably the fanciest, but we definitely preferred the atmosphere of California Grill.
This might be a good restaurant for a romantic dinner for two.
We then headed to pick up our AP coaster sets for making it to Epcot four different days during Food and Wine. Since we all had passes, we were able to get four sets.
We always pick up the AP gift, too. It is a fun perk. :)
It was odd that this was our first time of the trip taking the WL bus from Epcot, which has been notoriously slow for us. This time we got on the bus at 9:25, but had to wait for a driver change. It left packed full at 9:42, and made it to WL at 9:53.
How did you usually go from Epcot to WL?
The bus from Epcot to WL is my least favorite park bus. Not only is it at the furthest station in that group but it seems like we always have to wait forever for one to show up.

Yeah, looks like Marshall's facepaint didn't even last until dinner! LOL about going to see the Tiffany concert because "you were alone now". Happy Thanksgiving to you also!
Thanks! We had a nice Thanksgiving out camping at the sand dunes with both sets of Grandparents, and now we are back to "work".

Too funny about Marshall inviting the CP girls to your room !
That was jus t so Marshall, and everyone was having a good time.

shulas sounds like a delicious meal- never hear much about that one.
It was very nice, and way more of a traditional steak house than any Disney Restaurant we've been to. We will see how Yachtsman compares in February.

I'm glad Jon and Brandy enjoyed their tour! I did KTTK back in 2015 and LOVED it - I highly recommend it!
Yeah, we are all glad that they were able to squeeze it in. It is something I definitely want to do someday.

We were nervous about them too, but made sure that the kids had stuff to do and we were pretty confident that they wouldn't negatively affect anybody else. They were fine at both Shula's and California Grill, but they enjoyed CA Grill more, and it definitely felt more relaxed.

The last evening is always a bummer. At least you had just a few months until your next trip - having your next trip planned makes the Disney blues less severe!
Having the next trip planned, and so close is the very best remedy to Post Disney Depression that we've found yet.

Those pedals are really hard to push and sometimes out of reach for the kids. I've had to push the pedal for the kids almost every time.
Yeah, I'm thinking they designed them that way so it isn't too easy for kids to make them accelerate...

I would have been mad, too.
It was pretty inconsiderate. The darkness is kind of the point, and nobody wanted to see their cell phone lights on the whole time.

The girls probably loved it. :)
They were very nice, and Marshall loved making more friends.

Yeah, the minimum age for the tour is pretty high, so the kids wouldn't be able to do it. I tried to go with Jon and Brandy to see it, but there were only two openings. Melissa and I will have to do it together sometime.

They have a nice pool area but the resorts themselves aren't very exciting.
I didn't realize people dressed up for this restaurant. I'm sure they were used to seeing lots of families like yours, though.
This might be a good restaurant for a romantic dinner for two.
It would be a great restaurant for a quiet date night, and one to get dressed up for. A lot of the people there were at a business meeting for an insurance company, so that might have meant more people were dressed up than normal, but it was quite fancy.

We always pick up the AP gift, too. It is a fun perk. :)
We almost didn't have enough entries into Epcot to get it this time, which surprised us, but I guess we did a little less park hopping this time than normal. We liked that all four of us were able to get them.

How did you usually go from Epcot to WL?
The bus from Epcot to WL is my least favorite park bus. Not only is it at the furthest station in that group but it seems like we always have to wait forever for one to show up.
Often we wind up taking the bus, particularly at the end of the night, but earlier in this trip we had either taken the monorail to the Poly or gone out the International Gateway entrance and connected to WL from either Beach Club or Boardwalk. (Which isn't fast by any means since we had to connect at MK, but it was less walking than going to the front of Epcot and we got to spend time checking out the Epcot resorts.)

I just had to reply to this because I saw the mention of the hurricane. It gave me a big giggle, because the day Dorian was originally anticipated to hit, my work was cancelled. So I woke up that morning, and said to my husband, "want to go to Food & Wine today??" (We're Floridians.) Ended up being amazing, practically no lines, and now I'm almost unsure about going next year - will probably never, ever see the place that empty again! :P

Great updates! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
Thanks, we did have a great Thanksgiving camping in the desert with both sets of Grandparents. Hopefully yours was fun too.

That's great. The crowds were so low, even right after the storm. It definitely turned around by the end of the trip though, especially at Epcot. It's great you got to have it almost to yourselves.

On Saturday I got up at 6:00 and played on the computer adding up room charges. We spent more than last trip, but things had worked out nicely as far as being divided between us and Jon and Brandy, so we hadn’t out-spent our gift cards, which was a good thing.

I left the room about 6:40 and went by the lobby and eventually down to Geyser Point.

I chatted with a lady from Virginia with her baby who were getting ready to go on a Disney cruise. Then I went and got some more pictures of the front of the lodge on my way back up to the room.

I heard that Marshall was up so I went up and we got Allie up too, which went well. He was having fun with his Figment.

We also saw another Geyser from the room.

After finishing our packing we left the room about 9:40 to go get breakfast. We tried for Whispering Canyon but it was a 30 minute wait so we just headed down to Roaring Fork.

We didn’t want to cut checkout close again

We had a relaxing breakfast at Roaring Fork until about 10:40, when we went back up to say goodbye to the room.

We called Bell Services to store our carry ons for the day, and left the room at 10:58 with our checked bags.

We got downstairs to resort airline checkin and were second in line, but the timing worked out well since by the time we were done the line was to the doors.

Check in went pretty smooth this year. It seems like we’ve had boarding pass issues the last couple years but this time it was seamless.

We headed down to the boat dock and got there about 11:26 as a big boat left. A small boat pulled up right after, and we got on but waited to depart until 11:34. It started raining as we left the dock, and we got out the ponchos for the kids. We started to question our choice to take the boat.

We would have been fine if the boat left when we got on it. It was frustrating to sit at the dock watching the weather come in.

We got to MK at 11:44, and it was just lightly sprinkling.

We walked up and down both sides of Main Street and shopped for one last time. Melissa looked at bags but didn’t love the print placement and I couldn’t find the watch from Epcot, so all we bought was a monorail hot wheels car for Marshall and some rainbow rice crispy treats.

I really didn’t find anything I couldn’t live without except for more rice crispy treats.

Those are so good, and the rainbow sprinkle ones are something we discovered this trip.

I will from here forever make my rice crispy treats with fruity pebbles.

We decided to head back to WL and left the park at 12:36. We got on a big boat that left at 12:40, and after some boat traffic we got to the hotel at 12:49.

We stopped by Roaring Fork for one last mug refill on our way to the lobby.

We hung out for a bit then collected our carryon luggage from Bell Services.

It took a while to get our bags because they had gotten split up, but eventually they found them all.

Our MDE bus arrived right on time at 1:40, and although it arrived empty it pretty much filled up with WL people and didn’t stop to pick up at any other resorts. It continued our great luck with MDE this trip. We still weren't happyt to be going this direction...

At the airport we decided we should grab something to eat. Since Jon and Brandy have TSA precheck they decided to eat at the food court outside security while we opted to hop in the security line.

We left them at 2:30 and got right in line for security. Melissa’s bag got flagged because it had jellybeans in it, which delayed us.

Security was a nightmare. They also separated Paul and I leaving me with both kids and all the stuff. Then they put Allie through the metal detector with another family completely separating us.

We finally got out at 3:10, just as Jon and Brandy walked out from TSA Pre after eating and rode the airport monorail together.

We both decided after that to go through the tsa precheck process and now we both have our KTN numbers for February. It should make flying through Orlando so much better.

I am so excited about that. For our food we picked up Chinese food and ate it at the gate. It was good, and I remembered that we liked that place.

When they announced our flight I went up to gate check the stroller and the agent informed me that despite checking in within 10 minutes of when we could and having printed boarding passes we didn’t have seats on the flight. They claimed it was due to a plane change, but couldn’t explain why it was us who didn’t have seats.

So we waited and waited while everyone else boarded the plane and we got on last. The gate agent was not super nice about the whole ordeal which was not our fault at all.

She said if we wanted to get on the flight they would find volunteers, but we would have to wait to see what we got and would not be able to carry on any luggage. We gave Jon and Brandy our carry on with the camera in it, so it made it in the cabin.

We wound up getting three seats together for Melissa and the kids, but I was 15 rows back.

So, despite paying extra to pick our seats and bring carry on luggage we didn’t get either, but we were supposed to be grateful that we made it on the flight. At least that way Jon and Brandy had a ride home from the airport.

It turned out to be an ok flight and the kids were good on the plane.

I'm glad that at least one of us got to sit with them, and that they were good for Melissa. We made it to LAX just about on time, and soon wound up back at the same terminal we started from.

We headed downstairs to pick up our luggage, and saw a stroller all taped up on the belt. I recognized it and knew Melissa wasn't going to be happy.

I was sure that it wasn't ours and let it go around again...

We grabbed our other bags, and then I collected the bundle of stroller.

It turns out they had opened its custom bag, then taped the bag, fan, rain cover, and stroller together and sent it on its way.

When we pulled it off the belt and confirmed it was ours I was HOT. I couldn't believe TSA would take our stroller out of a bag and then just tape it back up instead of putting it back in the bag. There was nothing wrong with the bag at all.

Fortunately everything was there, and other than being dirty it wasn't too bad, so we headed up to our truck which was parked right up front. On our way out, we found that they increased the parking rates while we were gone by $10 a day, so our $300 parking bill became a $400 parking bill. Ahh LAX...

It is nice though how the crummy stuff of the trip home fades and we mostly remember the good stuff.

Yeah, and we had such a great trip that the issues on the way home were totally worth it. We stopped for In-n-Out burgers on the way home, and made it home by 11PM, which felt pretty late for us coming from Florida time.

Luckily this year the trip was shifted so we had a day to recover and get back into our regular routine.

So that concludes this trip for us. We'll be back with a final summary post to wrap it up soon, and then we'll be focusing on February, which is coming up very quickly...

MCO is why I got TSA Pre Check and insisted my Mom do so as well since she travels with me. I had a bad security experience at MCO and went home and started the TSA Pre Check process immediately! You will find it really does help both at LAX and MCO.

And sorry about the seats issue. Did you ask the airline to refund you the money you paid to select seats and for the carry ons? I would since you got neither of those things.

What a terrible trip home, between the security mess and your not having your pre-selected seats. I would've been SO UPSET if they did that to my stroller. What on earth?! I'm glad you managed to make it home okay despite all the issues.

You'll LOVE TSA pre-check! My husband and I got it this year and it was absolutely delightful to skip the big line (and we lucked out with really nice and understanding TSA agents). I'm especially excited about having TSA pre-check for MCO!

Thank you for the wonderful trip report! I look forward to your February trip!

Since Jon and Brandy have TSA precheck they decided to eat at the food court outside security while we opted to hop in the security line.
They have the best restaurants outside the security area but we never feel comfortable stopping there. They also have better restaurants in the terminal that is not the Southwest Airlines terminal. We accidentally took the wrong monorail and discovered them.
Melissa’s bag got flagged because it had jellybeans in it, which delayed us.
But jellybeans are small. That was odd that they were flagged.
We both decided after that to go through the tsa precheck process and now we both have our KTN numbers for February. It should make flying through Orlando so much better.
MCO is why we got TSA pre-check, too. I had gotten stuck in a very long security line and was just about the last person on the plane, even though we arrived two hours early via the Magical Express. That did it for us and it has been a breeze to get through TSA since then. :)
So, despite paying extra to pick our seats and bring carry on luggage we didn’t get either, but we were supposed to be grateful that we made it on the flight. At least that way Jon and Brandy had a ride home from the airport.
That just wasn't right for them to take away your seat assignments like that. It doesn't sound like they would have refunded the extra money you paid for seat assignments. It was a good thing that Melissa and the kids could sit together at least.
When we pulled it off the belt and confirmed it was ours I was HOT. I couldn't believe TSA would take our stroller out of a bag and then just tape it back up instead of putting it back in the bag. There was nothing wrong with the bag at all.
I wouldn't have liked having that tape all over the stroller.
On our way out, we found that they increased the parking rates while we were gone by $10 a day, so our $300 parking bill became a $400 parking bill. Ahh LAX...
That is a good size jump in price.
You had a lot of bad luck on this trip home.

Sounds like an awesome trip! We just got back yesterday from our annual 2 week trip and I’m deep in the post-Disney depression, lol. It’s great that you have another trip planned so soon to take the edge off that for you guys! We always debate doing 2 one week trips split up over the year but we always opt for the 1 two week trip. WL had an amazing gingerbread house this year! It was sooo cute. They usually just have a hot chocolate station. Humphrey the bear was on it, and chip and Dale too. Was my new favorite. I’m excited (and a little jealous, lol) to hear about your upcoming trip!

It is funny how bad MCO TSA seems to be compared to other airports. We both have it now and are looking forward to using it in February.
I sent an e-mail to the airline, and received a nice note back from American saying that unfortunately you are not guaranteed your seat assignment, so there was nothing they could do. We can (and did) choose to fly on another airline for February, so we will give Delta a try.

I really enjoyed reading about your trip! Sounds like you all enjoyed Wilderness Lodge...we love that place as well. Definitely one of our favorites! Can't wait to hear about more of your trips!!
Thanks, we really enjoy sharing our trips. Wilderness Lodge is such a great resort, and definitely our favorite home away from home. It is neat that we start our next trip in just 51 days!

What a terrible trip home, between the security mess and your not having your pre-selected seats. I would've been SO UPSET if they did that to my stroller. What on earth?! I'm glad you managed to make it home okay despite all the issues.

It really wasn't that bad, but the trip home was the worst part of the trip. It was still an awesome trip overall, and eventually we had to pay for the great luck we had.

I already am getting to enjoy my TSA Pre, since I used it last week on a work trip where I flew to India. I would not have made my connecting trip home after clearing Customs without being able to get through TSA screening un under 10 minutes, and I made it. I do think the officers in the pre check lines are a lot nicer...

They have the best restaurants outside the security area but we never feel comfortable stopping there. They also have better restaurants in the terminal that is not the Southwest Airlines terminal. We accidentally took the wrong monorail and discovered them.
We have really enjoyed the Chinese food at the American terminal, but we'll see what we find next time, and perhaps will be early enough to eat before security, but we won't cut it too close.
It is funny how different airlines have different food options. That is especially true at LAX, where the food is very different at the different terminals, and you can't connect to all of them inside security.

But jellybeans are small. That was odd that they were flagged.
Apparently it is because they are dense. I kept a bag out when I flew after this trip, and the TSA guy appreciated it.
On my India trip I had to send a bag through multiple different security points, and at one of them it got flagged. It is weird how it is different each time, even with the same bag contents.

MCO is why we got TSA pre-check, too. I had gotten stuck in a very long security line and was just about the last person on the plane, even though we arrived two hours early via the Magical Express. That did it for us and it has been a breeze to get through TSA since then. :)
Another TSA pre decision made by dealing with MCO... I am sure looking forward to having it next time.

That just wasn't right for them to take away your seat assignments like that. It doesn't sound like they would have refunded the extra money you paid for seat assignments. It was a good thing that Melissa and the kids could sit together at least.
I wouldn't have liked having that tape all over the stroller.
That is a good size jump in price.
You had a lot of bad luck on this trip home.
I understand that they may have switched planes, but I still don't know how we wound up being the ones, in the middle of the plane, to have our seats taken away. At least we did get home on time, but it sure wasn't the experience we hoped (or paid) for.
We were really disappointed that they didn't treat the stroller well at all, and it wound up very dirty by being open in the bottom of the plane. At least it wasn't damaged, but neither was its bag, so it should have been back in the bag like it was when we left it.
Parking was the last bad thing of the trip, but that's ok. I wish they at least only charged the higher price for part of the trip, but instead it was for the whole time. Oh well. We still had a great trip overall, and can't wait to go back.

Welcome home, although we definitely understand how it is hard it is to go back to real life after a Disney trip. Doing trips of 9 days seems perfect, and we do them once a calendar year, but by shifting to try a February trip it means that these two particular trips will be close together. We will take it.
The WL gingerbread house looked amazing. It is so cool that you got to see it in person. We are looking forward to sharing another fun trip, and trying a few more new things like Rise of the Resistance and visiting Riviera. We will gladly share our experiences to help you plan your next one.

Having wrapped up our second DVC trip, I figured we could summarize some of the highlights of the trip for us. We are particularly excited that we get to go back in February, which is the soonest we have ever been back to WDW after a trip.

It is seriously almost time to get out the suitcases again!

Once again my favorite part of the trip was the resort. As you can likely tell from the many early morning pictures, I just love exploring WL. It is my favorite place anywhere, and I am so glad that we get to own here.

Another new thing for this time was eating at more Signature restaurants. With the exception of LeCellier and Jiko last trip, we hadn't been to the higher end restaurants before. We finally made it to California Grill, and it truly impressed me, not just for how nice it was, but for how at home we felt there, even with the kids.

It was probably my favorite meal of the trip, it's hard to come up with a meal I enjoyed more.

I still loved my Teppan Edo, but the experience and view from Cali was awesome. I am looking forward to going back again someday.

Something else I really took away from this trip is how much I love the two bedroom villa and being able to move in for the entire trip. I liked not having to worry about a move mid vacation.

Yeah, it was really nice to be settled in for the whole 9 days, and it made the trip feel longer. I know it would be neat to do a split stay to experience other resorts, but it is hard to argue with spending 9 nights in one room that we absolutely love at Copper Creek.

Next time we should have one consistent room as well, but we are trying something a little different and booked a lockoff 2 bedroom with hopes of getting the alternate configuration. The location and view from these rooms are neat, and it would be cool to get one. We will see...

I'm really excited about the chance for the alternate studio room, it means we loose the larger closet on the studio side but I can't wait to see the views of the courtyard and Bay Lake.

Another new thing for everyone this trip was Star Wars Land. We had actually hoped to avoid the opening crowds and have one more trip without it, but we all enjoyed it and are looking forward to seeing it completed next trip. We will try for Rise of the Resistance, and have our reservation to make some droids.

It wasn't as crowded as we though it was going to be, I think the hurricane had something to do with it.

I think maybe a lot of people were fearing the crowds and staying away.

That was another first for us, having to watch a hurricane so closely before our trip.

Many of our friends at home encouraged us to cancel or reschedule our trip but I'm glad we didn't, the timing couldn't have been better for us.

Yeah, with all of our September trips this one finally came close to being negatively affected, but it worked out to just mean lower crowds at the beginning of the trip. We shouldn't have to worry about weather as much in February.

I feel like we are settling in to a routine for our trips, and we are learning what we really enjoy. We seem to do less park hopping, and are generally spending more time at MK, but the kids are just the right age for that.

It will be strange to see our favorite park, Epcot, all torn up and under transformation, but it should be great once it is done.

We definitely are settling into a routine but we're always adding new things to shake it up. We've also gotten wayy better at packing which is nice. The in room laundry is helpful for that.

Ahh yes, we have really gotten used to that. It will be crazy to bring some warmer clothes next time.

Yes! We are going to need to pack some layers.

Going a different time of year will be a nice change, and we'll see if we decide to repeat that in 2021.

We'd like to thank everyone for following along and commenting , and wish everyone Happy Holidays. We'll be updating the PTR before the next trip, and look for a new TR to start in late February.

See ya real soon!

Thank you for the wonderful trip report! I look forward to hearing about your February adventure!

Traveling to WDW in February is GREAT - the crowds seem lighter, you don't get as hot as the weather is reasonable, and you tend to be more well-rested as the parks have shorter operating hours. I'll be interested to see what you think of it!

Something else I really took away from this trip is how much I love the two bedroom villa and being able to move in for the entire trip. I liked not having to worry about a move mid vacation.
We like to totally move into a room, too. The two times we did a GF/BC split and the one time we did a WL/BC split were very disruptive. I liked splitting GF with BC because it meant we could avoid having to take the monorail to Epcot, but the WL/BC was not fun at all. We missed WL too much.
Next time we should have one consistent room as well, but we are trying something a little different and booked a lockoff 2 bedroom with hopes of getting the alternate configuration. The location and view from these rooms are neat, and it would be cool to get one. We will see...
That would be great to get the alternate configuration. Is it something that you can request?
Yeah, with all of our September trips this one finally came close to being negatively affected, but it worked out to just mean lower crowds at the beginning of the trip. We shouldn't have to worry about weather as much in February.
We have had hurricanes affect both of our August trips and one of October trips. We have never yet cancelled a trip because a hurricane was expected and it has paid off with lower crowds.

Your February trip could be affected by bad weather if your flight is coming from or flying to a city that is having bad weather. But most likely you won't have any problems. February is a tricky time of year to fly for us, though. :)

We seem to do less park hopping, and are generally spending more time at MK, but the kids are just the right age for that.
I noticed that your trips are including a lot more pool time and less rushing around. :)
See ya real soon!
I can't wait to hear about your February trip. Our daughter who lives in Colorado will be at the BC the week before your trip. We wanted to catch Flower and Garden before the rates went up for spring break travel so we will be at the BC March 1st to 6th. We have been trying to get a WL reservation but with a 10% annual pass holders discount, we just couldn't do it, especially when the BC had a 35% AP discount. WL has just gotten too popular.

Sounds like it was a great trip!! I cant believe the issues with your flight home though. I too would have been livid! But like you said once your home and miss Disney those become fuzzy funny memories and don't hinder the amazing vacation you had!
