Room not ready by 4?

It is so unacceptable to get in your room so late. This has happened to me too and I’ve been told that the room was ready but not inspected. What nonsense. I shouldn’t have to pay a full rate and not get in. I’m hear now and furious.

You do realize it is a busy time of year. Staff working hard and resorts at capacity. They try their best. You pulled up an old thread. What time was your room ready? Everyone pays lots to go to Disney. Would you rather have to wait for a good clean room or get dirty one and have more to complain about.

My rooms are always after 4-
As others said parks will be packed so if this is the way you are starting trip it probably will get worse for you.

Dec 8th isn’t suppose to be that busy compared to other times. I’ve been going to Disney for over 30 years. We usually go between Christmas and New Years. Now that is busy! I checked in around 1030 am and got into my room about 5 pm after DVC desk person called several times. Even when it was clean, I was advised that the inspector hadn’t come around to check my room and therefore we had to wait. What? The reality is that people check into rooms all day long. The room should be ready at the latest by 4pm. I would think there would be a system to let housekeeping know that people have checked in so they wouldn’t wait over 6 hours to have the room ready. I “revived” the thread as I saw that others have had a problem in the past. The answer isn’t that you get a dirty room. The answer is figuring out why the room isn’t ready and having a system in place to address this.

Many hotels won’t let you check in before official check in time even if the room is ready, so maybe the answer is to not let anyone get their room until check in time, then there’d be no need to be checking on housekeeping progress several hours before the deadline to have the rooms cleaned & ready for guests.
I get that you hoped to be into your villa several hours before check in time, but technically you didn’t wait 6 hr.s, check in is supposed to be 4 p.m. for DVC, you got into your room at 5 p.m., so you waited an hour past the time DVC villas can officially be checked into. I do agree that the villa should have been ready at 4 p.m., so 5 hours past when you wanted it rather than 6 hours.
The other issue, unique to DVC, is that members pay for the housekeeping via MFs, fewer housekeepers = lower MFs, fewer housekeepers = they need more time to clean the villas, so if the price of lower MFs is getting a villa at 4 p.m., as promised, and occasionally waiting a bit for a villa to be ready, many owners prefer that over higher MFs.

While this may be a zombie thread, it is kind of an evergreen issue. I think there’s generally a shortage of housekeepers in the Orlando hotel market. With so many rooms there and not enough people who are looking for that sort of work, it’s a year round problem that is probably made worse in the summer and holidays. From an economics perspective, Disney and other hotels should would normally do well to raise wages to attract more people. They also help by giving incentives for guests to skip housekeeping services (like gift cards). Even if they do that, it only goes so far in smoothing out the spikes in demand.

I’ve had my room not be ready multiple times by the official check-in time, which can be a bit of an inconvenience (especially when arriving from a red-eye and already being exhausted). It sounds like this isn’t that uncommon of an issue, unfortunately.

No one is concerned about the maids like the people on disboards.com

This is a 2 1/2 year old thread. This topic has been discussed numerous times. Sorry you are furious, but it is what it is

You def don't work in hospitality. Why wouldn't hotels want guests checked in early?
Unnecessary pressure on the entire system. Needing time to prepare rooms satisfactorily for incoming guests. To limitations not necessarily legitimate complaints. To avoid setting unreasonable expectations.

If check in were at X:00inetead of starts at X:00, all customerschecting in that day would need to be in the lobby at that exact moment. Expectations work both ways.

Rooms are not always ready when you want. Unfortunately. Check in starts at 3:00 or 4:00 (resort/dvc). If the room isn't ready, get over it, go about your day and enjoy the trip. The room will be ready sometime that day.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Check in for DVC villas is AFTER 4PM. So 5PM was okay. And Dec 8 was a very busy time of the year for DVC. The first two weeks of Dec and every villa is booked. When we checked into OKW on Dec 10, they told us they were completely full. No vacancy.

I “revived” the thread as I saw that others have had a problem in the past.
Three people, two and a half years ago. The OP did not have a problem with their room not being ready when they wanted. They had. mot. even. arrived. by the development come post in July 2017. They were looking for the room ready text:
However, it is now 10 minutes after 4pm and I have yet to receive a text with our room number.
Well, it's now 6pm and still, no text. It worked perfectly last summer for both mine and my brother's rooms at POR...and the year before at AKL. Oh well, I will find out soon enough!

There is. A Housekeeping Supervisor inspects the room and notifies the Front Desk when that has been done.

This is disboards.com: where no detail is too big nor small to concern ourselves with or incorporate into our planning anxieties.

Whether it’s the installation of a new drinking fountain near the fifth best ranked restroom in Disney Springs or whether they changed the sprinkles on seasonal cupcakes this year, it’s all fair game.

Also, I wonder if they can track MB to know how far away you are from resort.

No, I really really doubt that.

No. People checking in all day long is a courtesy. Hotels should just go back to not allowing early check in. Or charge for it, by the hour.

Checking in and getting a room are separate things.

Doing the checkin process early is good for everyone. It’s not connected to getting the room.

Unnecessary pressure on the entire system.

If everyone lines up at 4 that’s a huge pressure on the system. Far better to get the “paperwork” done earlier.

The OP did not have a problem with their room not being ready when they wanted. They had. mot. even. arrived.

Exactly.

I have done at least double spit stays each year since before this current incarnation of online checkin began.

I’ve gotten a room rest text twice.

Once was after I’d already gone to the front desk to let them know we were there and if they had something ready that we wouldn’t mind it. I don’t know if it was based on the online or in person checkin.

The second time was truly a room ready text based on online checkin.

And that’s it.

Online checking does NOT mean that you’ll get a room ready text.

And checking in early doesn’t mean you’ll get a room.
