5 in a room....................

It's definitely workable. The 2 things that stood out to me are:
  • The kids are young and the parks/activities will tire them out. Hopefully they fall asleep when their heads hit the pillow :D
  • The other thing is 14 days. That gives you great flexibility. If you have a bad night, take a long afternoon break for naps and relaxing around the resort. Make it an early night or a take a late start. With 2 weeks your schedule is more relaxed and forgiving. If one day doesn't go to plan, no biggie. Time is on your side here.
It's not alot of space for 5 but you have the entirety of WDW to spread out. One parent can stay in room with the napper(s), the rest go explore. There's so much to see and do, there's no need to get cabin fever. Your room doesn't need to be used beyond sleeping/washing. Have a great time! Your trip sounds precious with the young ones. Take a deep breath and smile.

We are only a family of 4, but I grew up in a family of 5. Sometimes we did a suite or two rooms, but often stayed in one room. I definitely remember staying at Beach Club in one room. It was fine.

However, when I saw that your trip is 14 days...that’s a really long time to share one room! It’s great in that you’ll have some flexibility with that many days. You won’t have to pack every single day with plans(unless you want to, I guess). I just personally can’t imagine spending that many days in such close proximity with my family. I definitely like my space, so maybe it wouldn’t bother others as much.

We stayed at the Wyndam Bonnet creek. We had a 2 bedroom unit. 1- King bedroom with jaquizzi tub and bathroom and 2nd room was 2-full beds and a full bathroom outside the door. There was a sofa sleeper in the living room. It was a last minute trip .We normally stay at French Quarter but it was booked. We loved it. We paid $225 a night. It included free parking. We drove to the parks. except fort MK. We took a Minnie van to drop us off at gate without having to go to TTC or ferry.

Just for reference though, the rooms at POFQ are 314 sq feet. The rooms at Beach club are 384 Sq feet (same at AKL if you rented DVC). 70 square feet may not sound like much, but when you're sharing space with other people it can make a big difference!
True.

We also had 7 of us in two staterooms on a cruise ship (so less than 500 sq feet, but 2 bathrooms). This 4 adults and 3 kids (12, 5, 5).
The deluxe family staterooms on DCL sleep 5 and are 246 square feet, so it really is totally doable, though. Especially if 3 of the people are your own small children.

Thanks @Trinity88
My eldest 2 share a room anyway and are great sleepers, and the baby had been an amazing sleeper until about a month ago - I'm most worried she will be crying waking everyone up. I called Disney to see about either getting an extra room at FQ or moving to a suite, but both options added at least £3000 which we just cant afford. I'm hoping we will all be so tired we will just collapse into bed, and yes if the little ones need a nap hubby and I have already planned taking it in turns to have a drink at the pool bar and jump in the hot tub!

Have you checked for a suite at the All Star Music? It should be pretty close to the price for your one room at POFQ. You would have 2 bathrooms and more space to spread out.

We’re a family of five and have stayed at POR in a five person room, but one was in a pack n play. We don’t have issues getting everyone to sleep at once when she share a hotel room - we travel frequently. Disney is especially easy because they are so tired! However, I’ve never done 14 days anywhere with my kids and those rooms are tiny! I think you may be miserable after a week but I guess there’s only one way to find out!

Yes, 14 days is a really long time! We have managed 10 days in a Deluxe, however my DD has informed me that my 18 YO 5 foot nothing DGD cannot sleep on a day bed that long again. She was fine at 10 but no more. LOL!

I just took both of my boys to a tournament this weekend, and we stayed in one hotel room. Ugh. We survived, but how miserable!! No way could I ever do a family vacation with all 5 of us. I'd rather stay home.

Your kids are still really young. My kids are almost all grown now but at that age we always put everyone in the same room. There isn't really a need for privacy for them. They'll probably all sleep at around the same time. No one cares about getting dressed with others in the room. It's a fine age for one hotel room. You will be fine. Enjoy your trip.

You will be fine. I mean 10 days at Disney!!! IF you need a break - walk around the resort, walk over to Riverside, or go to the Food Court or Scat Cat's.

But, for future trips, you may want to look into renting DVC points for a 1br or 2br. villa. I have not stayed at one of the partner hotels but a previous poster said they got a 2br for $225/night. That is a great deal also. For me personally, I like staying on site using Disney buses or the occasional Minnie Van or Lyft/Uber. We are DVC owners now and so we stay in a villa.

Have an amazing trip !

Thanks everyone. We are travelling from the UK with a free QS dine package. We did look at a suite at AoA or All Stars, but Aoa was over double the price, and also didn't include the free dine, and All Stars were sold out. We will be out most of the time, and have decided hubby and I can take turns to head back to the room if one or more of the kids need s nap. We are taking our double stroller so all the kids can use that for napping also.
One month today -soooooo excited!!!

I didn’t realize you were coming from overseas, so it makes more sense now! With that many days you will be able to spread things out and take your time. I would try to get on a “schedule” with that naps if possible. You will have to be flexible, obviously. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

5 in the room is when club level makes perfect sense for me. We did it once 2 summers ago: The man and I as adults, grand-nephew about 9 y/o, niece aged 15 or 16, and DGD then aged 12. Grand nephew and the man slept together in a Q, DGD and I in the other Q, and niece on the sleeper couch that she never wanted open. The room had a huge terrace (BWI) so the man and I tended to hang out there, and the kids split their time between playing games under the bathroom sink :-)lmao:), in the club lounge and on one side of a bed.

The break-even point for club level is either 4 or 5 in a room so it made great sense financially especially with breakfast being included. Loved the fact that the lounge closes around 10:00 AM for breakfast as it gave the later eaters (read lazy) a time to get out of the room before the sun set;).

We shared a room for 6 nights at Yacht Club with two adult couples, one 9 month old, and one 6 month old (meaning two separate cribs).. it was totally fine! 6 people in a regular room worked for us! Oh, and don't forget we also had two single strollers haha

Hi all,
Just wondering how everyone else managed sleeping 5 to a room. We are staying at FQ in 5 weeks and beginning to have a panic about all sleeping in the same room. Husband and I are travelling with our 3 kids aged 5, 3.5 and 21 months, and so many people are commenting how it will be a nightmare for us (helpful I know!)
Any reassurance or tips greatly appreciated! Really excited for our trip and can't wait to tell the kids on Christmas day!

Thanks

You won't be in yhe room that much anyway. And when you are, kids will mosy likely pass out from sweet Disney exhaustion. Don't worry yourself too much, it's going to be awesome!

You will be fine - there is room for a pack play and iirc there will be at least 2 good spots to place it out of the way but still accessible.

The key for me would be organization - I would get a few cheap over the door type shoe holders from the dollar store and hang one in the bathroom for easy access to toiletries and the others in the room for misc. items (toys sunglasses souvenirs....) maybe another for bottles, sippy cups, refillable mugs etc.. I like the clear ones so you can easily see what is in each pocket! Also a couple dollar store pop up hampers, one for shoes and the other for dirty clothes.

We don't always unpack but with 5 in a room I would wipe out the dressers with a disinfectant wipe and use them so I could put the suitcases out of the way under the beds. You can also hang up a decent amount on the clothing rack.

If you happen to have a pack and play size sheet I would bring that - my kids always slept better if I had a sheet from home as it was familiar to them.

My eldest 2 share a room anyway and are great sleepers, and the baby had been an amazing sleeper until about a month ago - I'm most worried she will be crying waking everyone up.

That could just be "2 year" molars coming in. - She may be back to her old self by the trip.

And I agree with the majority of posters here. - You'll be fine, it's Disney!!

If you're feeling cooped up, "split up and spread out" is the motto. - You have the whole resort at your disposal, not just a room! The key is to recognize the signs that tempers are soon to flare and head it off.

Have a great trip!!

Thanks again everyone. 10 days to go and we are so excited. Baby sleeping is no better, so still a bit worried but we will figure it out!😊😊😊

Get a over there door shoe organizer. Hang it on the bathroom door. It will hold SO MUCH STUFF! Toiletries, shoes, snacks, jewelry, diapers, wipes, cups, etc.
with a large family organizing is key. This saved our last trip

Thank you, just ordered one! Also ordered some hanging wardrobe storage as I hear there is only a few hangers and limited drawer space 😊
