I will be attending a conference in Baton Rogue in March. It looks like the closet airport is New Orleans. Of course I can’t travel through New Orleans without visiting.

does anyone have recommendations for site seeing in both as well as hotels.

thanks

Isn’t much sightseeing in Baton Rouge. You could visit the state capitol and see Mike the Tiger at LSU. We also have the USS Kidd on the river, which is a fun activity.

As for NOLA what are your interests? How long are you there for? When in March are you visiting? There’s a lot more to see and do there.

Thanks. It will be the first week in March. I believe my conference is the 5-6th in Baton Rogue. I figured I’d do a day and a half in New Orleans. Freemont Street, a cemetery tour, but not sure what else.

I don’t know what Freemont St. is. Did you mean something else?

No festivals that time of year, but still plenty to do in downtown Nola. Weather should be pretty good. Definitely hit the French Quarter during the day. It’s really beautiful in the daylight.

Wonder if poster meant Bourbon St.?

With a just a day & a 1/2, I’d hit the big stuff... cemetery tour, French qrtr, street car, cafe Du monde, eat a few good places, etc. Will you have a car to get to & from NOLA & BR?

Metairie and Algiers. We lived in Parc Fontaine apartments in the early 90s. Graduated from Ursuline in ‘92.
Oh ok! Most of my family went to Ursuline (well the girls lol). I have an older 2nd cousin who is actually a nun there. She’s in her 70s & has been there forever so she was probably there then. I went to Immaculata though. I graduated in ‘97 so I’m a little younger. I live in Park Timbers now. I grew up in this general area & my dad did too. My mom grew up in Old Algiers. Small world! There is another poster with Westbank roots on DIS too.

Just to be clear, Baton Rouge has its own decent-sized airport. I used to live in Louisiana and have flown in and out of it more than one. The NOLA airport is bigger, of course.

I was assuming maybe the airline OP is using doesn’t fly into BR. I know SW doesn’t.

I didn’t know that. I was looking to fly one of the budget airlines and couldn’t find a BR airport

Ha. Freemont was my try at knowing where I wanted to go without double checking the internet. i meant the French Quarter/Bourbn Street. I’m guessing they are close to each other
Yes Bourbon St is a street in the French qrtr.
