Just a Couple of Childless (for the week) Millennials, Here to Ruin the Fun for Families *COMPLETED 1/5*

Great trip report. Enjoyed reading! Might consider Coronado after seeing your pictures.
It is big, but other than that I really liked staying there.

Two and a half rides on RotR? Oh dear, that sounds ominous! I'm thrilled you had an overall great trip, though!
You;ll have to read the TR to find out ;) It was really good though.

A low-key time in AK sounds delightful! That's good to know about the safari in the early mornings - I always plan to ride the safari early in the day as I've usually had good luck seeing many animals. Perhaps I'll have to change my plan for my next trip!
We did an afternoon safari this past trip and so the most animals ever, it was amazing.

FotLK and Finding Nemo in the same day? That sounds wonderful! I really enjoy both shows (but honestly, I think Finding Nemo might be my favorite of the two).
FotLK is my fave, but Nemo is so good too.

Yours is the first less-than-glowing review of Nomad Lounge that I've read, but I'm sure your drink and food choices are to blame. That's too bad about the overpowering truffle oil on the fries. Truffle is a pretty strong flavor so I could see how it would overtake the dish!
[/QUOTE]
Both of the things I had were just too strong for me, I really want to go back though. There are so many choices, I think I just picked the wrong ones for me.

Sounds like a good time at AK! I love those PP pics, they came out so great and your dress is perfectly themed for the park!
Thank you!

Thank you for the trip report. I was desperate for a Disney fix, and you made me feel like I was there!

Merry Christmas and welcome back! Glad you had a good trip and can't wait to hear about the 2.5 rides on RotR!

Love the PP pictures with the Lion King wall!

Thanks for reading. I'm glad I could give you a little Disney fix.

Thanks, Merry Christmas to you too.

Dancing in the Rain

We headed back to the hotel to change out of our wet clothes. The forecast called for rain all evening, so we ponched up. We did not want to relive the nightmare of Epcot bag check, so for the first time ever, we went bagless into the parks. It felt so weird to not have all the things I usually have, but it was certainly freeing.

On the bus ride over, as we were leaving Coronado the bus driver informed us of a major car accident that would be delaying our travel. It wasn’t a big deal, as we had no real plans for the evening other than our ADR, and honestly, I was happy not being in the rain a little longer. However, it was freezing on the bus, and I was struck with the thought that I might actually need to buy a sweatshirt that evening. Even with the ponchos, we would still get wet and going in and out of A/C, meant I would be freezing. I never though this would be something I would be thinking about in August. Anyway, we got to Epcot, and took another spin on Spaceship Earth.

We had another FP for Soarin, so we slowly made our way over there, trying not to get wet. I took the opportunity to show off my new ears, as I didn’t know if there would be an opportunity later.

Another successful flight around the world, and we were getting hungry. We stopped in Germany to see the trains, It was a very wet walk to Italy, and we were so happy to finally seek refuge in Via Napoli. We were seated quickly, and we already knew what we were ordering.

We each got a Caesar salad. I thought it was very good. Instead of having croutons, it has crumbled croutons, which I preferred, they were also very generous with the dressing.

While we were waiting for our food, I look over to the table next to us and this is what I see

🤮Why does being is Disney World make people loose their dang mind. Where in the world is this acceptable? I don’t care if you feet are wet from walking in the rain.

I got the Carciofi pizza, which is artichokes, fontina, mozzarella, and truffle oil. Unlike the fries earlier, the truffle was just enough to flavor it without overpowering the entire pizza.

This is my favorite pizza ever, I wish I could have it all the time.

Joe got the standard pepperoni, which he also loves.

After a delicious dinner, the rain had taken a break, so we got some pictures in Italy.

Next we went to Japan.

We wanted to go in Mitsukoshi, specifically because I wanted to do pick a pearl, instead we got distracted by merchandise.

I never did the pick a pearl, still don’t even know where it is:confused3.

The Awesome Mix Tape Live show was about to start, thankfully we got under the covered seating because the rain was starting again. I was not looking forward to the show, as I do not really care for the music from the movies. However, Joe loves the music and was excited, so I was happy for him.

A person from Xandar tells us that she has sent Xandarians to Earth so we can hear their music.

The music is terrible and Peter Quill shows up to have them play some Earth music.

Gamora is so funny during the show, and I actually found it quite entertaining. I am really glad we did it and Joe just had the biggest smile the whole time too.

Having been a bit since dinner we had some room for dessert now. Joe’s favorite was just a few countries over.

He went with the brioche ice cream sandwich. I wasn’t a huge fan of it, so I went with the ice cream martini.

The ice cream never really mixes with the vodka, so it tasted like I was taking vodka shots, with a chaser of ice cream every bite. I don’t believe I finished it, I don’t think the ice cream shop in France is for me. From now on, I'll stick to the slushies in France. Since we had pretty much done everything we wanted at this point, and it was still raining hard, we opted to see Impressions de France. We’ve only done this show once, on our couples trip in 2016.

As soon as the movie started I started laughing. Basically the soundtrack for the film plays when you call the Disney reservation line, which as a TA I do often. I never knew what those pieces of music came from, but after being on hold they became my favorites and I looked forward to hearing them. Now that I know what they came from it was funny to me. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

Once again, the rain had stopped, and we spotted the gondolas testing, which was very exciting back then.

We also saw a rainbow.

We spent the rest of the evening perusing the shops of the World Showcase.

The U.K.

Canada and their silly soaps

It was getting close to Illuminations o’clock, and we had picked up a FP for it, so we headed in that direction. Sadly all the front row spots had been taken. So we stood a little ways back against a railing. It really started to pour, but we hunkered down in our ponchos, and waited.

I didn’t get any pictures partly because it was still raining, but mostly I just wanted to enjoy. Illuminations has such a special place in my heart, mostly because I love the music so much, and I am really sad it is gone. I try to be optimistic but the nighttime shows lately have not been my cup of tea, so I’m thinking whatever replaces it will not be as special to me. I was happy to enjoy it one last time, even in the rain. Once the show was over we let the World Showplace clear out until it was just Joe and I. We sat and listened to Promise and Tapestry of Nations. I may have cried a bit, we may have dance a bit. It was magical and it felt like we had all of Epcot to ourselves.

It is always so hard to walk out of the park on your final night, this being no exception.

We wandered in Mouse Gear just to linger longer. We so far had bought very little, and of course there’s no time like the last night to blow your budget. I was actually freezing at this point, so I grabbed a sweatshirt with Mickey on it that says it was all started by a mouse. I also picked up some sweatpants. Joe got some thing that was like metal Earth, but instead it was wood and a hat that says Mountain Man and has all the mountains on the sides.

Finally it was time to say goodbye to Epcot until next time, but not before a final PP picture.

Sounds like a fun last day minus the rain. Great pictures in AK - love your dress! I love that you toughed out the rain and enjoyed your time in Epcot and even stayed for Illuminations. Looking forward to reading about your Dec. trip - that's still my favorite time to go!

I am catching up on your trip report - thanks for sharing it with us.

I can identify with your anxiety when you had the Flight of Passage incident. A couple of years ago on Mission Space, the ride was delayed for a few minutes after we had pulled down the safety restraints. My wife had to keep talking to me to keep me from totally freaking out.

It's a lot easier to tough out the rain without the kids. We loved it in December!.

Thanks for reading. Its awesome that you have a spouse that could help you through that, Joe is my rock in those situations.

Sounds like such a perfect last night, even with the rain!
It was, the rain sucked but I was not gonna let it get us down.

Show Me Your Graduation Pose

The morning dawned on the day I dread from the minute I book a trip, departure day.

The weather matched our mood and it was still rainy and cloudy like the evening before. We packed up, which basically meant shoving things haphazardly into our suitcases. Even though we didn’t buy much, both our suitcases were now overweight. We ended up using a Disney bag as one of our carry-ons to help distribute the weight. We dropped our luggage at airline check in, and our carry-ons at bell services and then waited for the bus to Magic Kingdom. We ended up chatting to an older couple who were part time CMs (snow birds) at ESPN Zone and were down there for their Galaxy’s Edge preview.

We were once again bagless and carried only our ponchos and phones. Funny enough, it rained heavily while we were waiting for the bus, but by the time we got to Magic Kingdom, it stopped and didn’t rain again, so we didn’t even need the ponchos. We got one last picture on Main Street.

Joe was wearing his graduation shirt we had gotten at Buc-ees. For those of you who don’t know, Buc-ees is a chain of gas stations here in Texas. They are massive and are pretty much the best gas stations ever and they have their own merch. We saw many Texans that day and Joe got many compliments on his shirt. On the way to the park, we didn’t want to do quick service, so we made a last minute ADR at the Plaza. We checked in and decided to do a graduation “photo shoot” while we waited.

Not even five minutes later and we were being paged for our lunch. It was our first time eating at the Plaza.

Joe got the bottomless milkshake.

We decided to split the brisket mac and cheese.

This was disappointing, and we should have known better. We are such big BBQ fans, but have gotten used to how they do it in Texas. This was more like pulled pork (but beef) smothered in BBQ which covered up the taste of the meat. The mac and cheese part was good.

After lunch, Mickey’s Friendship Fair was going on, I still haven’t seen this thing in full.

We had our first FP of the day, so we headed into Fantasyland.

I feel like the more I ride this ride, the shorter it feels to me. We had some time until our next FP, and we wanted one more go on Haunted Mansion. We waited about 25 minutes, which is probably the longest I’ve waited for this, but it’s our favorite, so it’s worth it. At least we had time to enjoy the queue.

The merge this day was quite bad after the stretching room. I would have been seriously concerned with my boy’s had they been there. I felt sympathy for the parents who kids were getting trampled on by adults, who just needed to get to their doom buggy’s first. Eventually we got on, Joe and I had very different reactions to the ride.

There was a PP out near the exit, so of course we had to stop.

When we went to scan our band, the CM randomly asked if we had seen The Boys on Amazon Prime. To which we replied we had not. Then she went into graphic details about this very violent, and not at all Disney friendly show. We were right next to the queue with children as she described a gory scene in the first episode. I felt very uncomfortable, but I didn’t know how to politely tell her to stop so we just kind of stood there waiting for it to end. It seemed to go on forever, but thankfully and family came up to get their picture taken and we could sneak away. As awkward as the encounter was, Joe came home and took her recommendation to watch it and loves the show, so I guess something positive came out of it :confused3 .

I ask myself that question often! People really do seem to lose it there.

This sounds delicious! We weren't fans of Via Napoli but if we go back, this is what I'm getting.

I never did the pick a pearl, still don’t even know where it is:confused3.

It took me forever to actually do it but it was a lot of fun and I wear my pearl in a necklace every day.

Glad you ended up liking it. I've heard mixed reviews but we never got to see it.

Yuck.

Sounds lovely and I'm still mourning the loss of the music leaving Epcot after Illuminations

ALWAYS!

I like this show but it always feels like you're standing on the surface of the sun to watch it so we rarely do.

How strange.

Mmm, your dinner at Via Napoli looks excellent! (But honestly, VN is always excellent!)

You would've LOVED me back in 2015 if you saw me enter Le Cellier for our dinner reservation. We were caught in a HUGE downpour shortly after we arrived in Epcot for dinner. After trying to wait it out, we realized we'd have to keep moving in order to not miss our dinner. I didn't want to get my tennis shoes soaking wet (seriously, a major downpour), so Anika and I each carried one shoe under our ponchos and I walked from just in front of the Character Spot to Le Cellier in my bare feet... and that's exactly how I walked into LC. The hostesses were a bit horrified. (Don't worry, I put in on my shoes within about 60 seconds and they were kind enough to grab me a towel to dry off my feet.) Considering the foot of water we walked through more than once, I don't feel too bad about my gross Disney moment!

It's too bad you didn't enjoy your lunch at the Plaza! I think their sandwiches and salads are the best bet - although Joe made a great choice with the milkshake.

The lines for Haunted Mansion (and Jungle Cruise) have been crazy long since Fastpass+. I miss the days when you could visit those with a short(er) line!

Thank you for your fun report! less than 2 months for our trip to our happy place:)
Oh yay! I hope you have an amazing time!

I ask myself that question often! People really do seem to lose it there.
It's like they check all common sense at the gates

This sounds delicious! We weren't fans of Via Napoli but if we go back, this is what I'm getting.
I hope you give it another try and this dish doesn't disappoint.

Still didn't do it in December, but one day I will get to it.

Glad you ended up liking it. I've heard mixed reviews but we never got to see it.
It's not must do, but it was a fun distraction.

Sounds lovely and I'm still mourning the loss of the music leaving Epcot after Illuminations
Me too

How strange.
::yes::

Mmm, your dinner at Via Napoli looks excellent! (But honestly, VN is always excellent!)
True, we really like Via Napoli

Oh no, I have no words.

The milkshake was so good.

Me too, FP+ has really changed some rides.

I’m Not Entirely Sure What I Just Watched

The only show we had yet to see this trip was CBJ. Now I pretty much knew Joe wouldn’t like it, which is why I have never pushed us to do it, but he was curious, so we went in.

Joe had literally zero clue to what the show was, and it was quite funny to see him go from confused to slightly horrified, to laughing throughout the show. We were with a good audience who laughed through the whole thing and I laughed at Joe, so a good time was had by all. Joe left the theater confused, but I don’t think he hated it which is good. His only comment was, I'm not entirely sure what I just watched. :rotfl2: We had been at Disney for a week, and yet to have a Dole Whip, which is just a travesty, so we remedied that right away.

We had a FP for BTMRR next, but I just enjoyed, so no pictures.

We had to trek across the park, for our last FP for Space Mountain.

Bunny in space

It was time for our final ride, we always try to make that the Peoplemover. We actually hadn’t ridden it in the day yet, so this was our first chance to check out the modified Speedway track and Tron construction.

Sadly it was time to make our way out of the Magic Kingdom. Even though I knew I would be back in four months, probably the quickest turn around I’ve even had, it was so hard to make that walk out. We had had some downs for sure, but it was an amazing trip, and I just didn’t want it to end.

I changed into comfier clothes for travel.

We had roughly 10 minutes before our Magical Express, and we remembered that they sold that Strawberry cider at Barcelona Lounge, so we went to have one last drink together.

We basically had to chug it, but it was so worth it. Soon we were on the Magical Express back to the airport.

The ride back was uneventful, as was the plane ride home. We honestly had such a fabulous time. Of course we love going with our kids, but there is truly something special about being able to cut loose and be carefree with you best friend, in your favorite place. Thanks so much to all of you who followed along silently, and those who commented.

Here is the last picture I have from this day, my middle DS excited for my new ears.

Hope to see you over in the newest TR :wave2:

What a great end to the trip. I can't wait for another trip with my hubby- they are few and far between, but cherished! I can't wait to read about the next trip!

Sounds like it was a nice last day! I'm so glad you and DH got to have such an awesome adults only trip! I really enjoyed reading along :)
