Annual Reading Challenge--2020

My goal for this year is 52.
Great!
New to this - put me down for 20
Great & Welcome!
Thank you for continuing this! I'm not going to challenge myself because I am always reading when I can, just don't seem to have as much time as I use to. There was a time when I could read over 100 books a year but I've slowed down quite a bit. I'll check in and let you know what I've finished and to see what all of you are reading. I can always count on finding a good book to read here.
You are welcome! I used to be able to read 100 a year also but work & life gets in the way more now.
I'm committing to give blood five books (stupid autocorrect!) right now, including The MENSA Guide to Casino Gambling ;)
Welcome back. Let me know if the MENSA book works, lol.
I've done a reading challenge on Goodreads for the past several years, so I might as well do it here for accountability too. :) My goal for 2020 is 42 books. Have not started the first one yet!
I signed up for a Goodreads challenge a few years & was so technically challenged I could never get anything I read added. Signed up over there again this morning & got my first added so maybe I can keep up over there too.
My goal last year was 30 and I passed that so I'll challenge myself to 40 this year. We watch 3 grandkids under 4 full time so it really may be a challenge LOL!!
I started in 2020 a book called the Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson which I love. Not finished yet but really enjoying it.
Good luck to all in the New Year!
MJ
Glad you are joining us again.
I took the goodreads.com challenge as well last year, did not even come close! So let's cut it in half and try for 25 this year.
Got it!

I said 50 last year and ended up with almost 70 so I’m going to push for 75 this year.

1/75 - The New Breed: Brotherhood of War Book VII - W.E.B. Griffin

The new cast of characters for the last 3 books are introduced here with many old favorites making multiple appearances.

I’m in, again! I’m going to stick with a goal of 50 books for 2020.

1/50 This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel
This is how a family keeps a secret…and how that secret ends up keeping them.
This is how a family lives happily ever after…until happily ever after becomes complicated.
This is how children change…and then change the world.
This is Claude. He’s five years old, the youngest of five brothers, and loves peanut butter sandwiches. He also loves wearing a dress, and dreams of being a princess.
When he grows up, Claude says, he wants to be a girl.
Rosie and Penn want Claude to be whoever Claude wants to be. They’re just not sure they’re ready to share that with the world. Soon the entire family is keeping Claude’s secret. Until one day it explodes.
Laurie Frankel's This Is How It Always Is is a novel about revelations, transformations, fairy tales, and family. And it’s about the ways this is how it always is: Change is always hard and miraculous and hard again, parenting is always a leap into the unknown with crossed fingers and full hearts, children grow but not always according to plan. And families with secrets don’t get to keep them forever.

I love, love, love this book. One of the most beautiful stories I have ever read.

Thanks so much for taking care of this thread!

I am going to try for 90 again this year.

Thank you for doing this! I’m in! I exceeded my goal last year and read 45. While I’m tempted to shoot big, I’m going to put it at 25.

I think I have this one on my to read list.

Although I surpassed my goal by 11 books last year I think I will just up my goal to 35 this year. This coming year looks to be more challenging in regards too caring for my husband so reading time may be more limited.
I'm off to a good start though.

1/35 Calder Promise / Janet Dailey
2/35 Shifting Calder Wind / Janet Dailey
3/35 Green Calder Grass / Janet Dailey

That is a really good start.
Being a caretaker for a loved one is demanding work so try to take time for yourself (easier said than done)

I’ll hop on board. I’ve visited the previous threads sometimes when looking for a book to read. But I think I’ll join this year to keep track of my books and get more recommendations. I’ll go with 25 as my goal.

I'm in, and will try for 12 books this year.AllenFane

I’d love to join y’all! I’ll go with 24- almost done with the first of 2020. The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell

Welcome!

I'm going to try for 56 books this year. I'm also going to try to keep up with the Disboards. I've been having lots of technical problems with pop-ups here, sometimes DH bans me from using the Disboards (potential viruses, spam), but I volunteer at the hospital and use the Disboards here. So far I have my first 2 books going, "Auschwitz Lullaby" (so far excellent) and my traditional Christmas gift, "The Unofficial Guide to WDW 2020"

Thanks for taking on the thread!

I made it to my goal of 130 last year despite an unusually busy year, so I'm bumping it up to 156 (three per week) for 2020.

The popup issue seems to be resolved for now but if it comes back again, you can get around it by disabling java just for disboards.com in your browser settings. It limits some of the functionality of the boards - harder to like, no multi-quote, etc. - but it at least makes the boards readable without the obnoxious redirects.

Glad to see you both back for this year!

I will aim to read 30 books this year.

1/30 Airport by Arthur Hailey
The #1 New York Times–bestselling thriller about an airport thrust into chaos by a whiteout blizzard: “A spellbinder” (The Denver Post).

As a raging blizzard wreaks havoc at Lincoln International Airport outside Chicago, airport and airline personnel try to cope with this unstoppable force of nature that is endangering thousands of lives. And in the air, a lone plane struggles to reach its destination. Over the course of seven pulse-pounding hours, a tense human drama plays out as a brilliant airport manager, an arrogant pilot, a tough maintenance man, and a beautiful stewardess strive to avert disaster.

Featuring a diverse cast of vibrant characters, Airport is both a realistic depiction of the airline industry and a novel of nail-biting suspense.

I hadn't planned on reading it, but I happened to see it for free on Prime Reading. Despite being an older book (it was published in 1968), I really enjoyed it.

I would like to join in. I do the Goodreads challenge every year. I set it at 30. Not sure how people format their posts in these threads, so bear with me!

#1-What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand
It’s book 2 in her new series. Really enjoyed the characters and setting. Ended on a cliffhanger ugh! Next one comes out in October. She is one of my all time favorite authors, so I know I will enjoy anything she writes.

#2-The Testaments by Margaret Atwood (currently reading)
