Are you trying to be near the front for any other rope drop advantage on other rides, or just trying to be in the park to join a BG?

Don’t care about rope dropping any particular ride. Just don’t want to take a chance on missing a regular boarding group. We’ll be there all day.

I understand why it takes only minutes to fill the Boarding Groups. But why does it take hours to fill the Backup Boarding Groups. And is there any history on how many Backup Groups are being filled?

I'm actually surprised that it takes hours to fill the backup BGs, but it seems to. Now I'm just gonna guess here. Perhaps people who came a little later and missed the regular BGs don't want a backup BG because it's uncertain if they'll get to ride? Maybe people see that the regular BGs are filled and give up? I've read nearly every post on this thread and somewhere people must be speculating about this, but I can't pinpoint that place. Hope this is a teensy bit helpful, @hcortesis!

My opinion
Let’s look at Friday’s data.
(These #’s may be a little off but it the general idea)
Regular BG’s started at BG 15 Back up’s at 111 The last Bg was 149.
So.... So those people that got the Regular BG’s were all in the park at 7 am 96 groups worth
But for the rest the Backup groups some were not even requested until 8:00 or late. So less demand.
This makes sense in my head hopefully it will for you

EDIT: looking at other posts from folks at the park, it looks like it was app issues or a late drop of boarding groups this morning. I’ll continue to practice the different ways.

Been reading this thread since day 1 and went and looked at first page and didn’t see a definite answer. Has there been a conclusion of the best way to get Join Boarding Group to light up? Wait to open app right when the BG drops, just click find out more and go back and forth doing that, or go into my status and pull down to refresh?

Tried the my status page and pull down refresh method this morning from home as practice and it never lit up. Did that until 7:01 just to make sure I wasn’t trying too early. Then after that I tried clicking find out more and nothing. So I closed my app and opened back up and it lit up.

I was going back and forth to the home page when I got BG9 yesterday.

Do you refresh? Open app at 7? 5 seconds after 7? I’m thinking best is to open the app after it’s fully closed, right at 7.

No one knows the numbers, Disney doesn't release that. BG in general do not have a set number for regular or backup nor do we're know how many people poder bg. Any answer to this would be pure speculation, so I'm sure you'll get plenty here

As far as why backups stay open so long the one number the chart is missing is how many backup bgs are given out. Could be quite a few “just in case”. It would have to at least be enough to get up to 100% capacity which it’s never hit so far.

Pop is so close to DHS - like 5 mins. I liked getting there at 6:15ish because we had time to breath/prep/etc, but could have easily arrived later. There haven’t really been reports of problems or delays getting into the park, so that’s not much of a concern. I’d say you have a wide target to work with - good luck!

Supply and demand. The crowds at Rope Drop are considerably lower this week than last. There’s enough people at RD now to fill the BGs but not the backup BGs. So they go as people get there.

Why people aren’t making much effort to get there, that’s where speculation comes in.

What it makes clear to me is that once the ride is running consistently, they could dispense with boarding groups.

So the day has come...drove over to HS fron campground..went thru security at 5:59...lined up at ticket booths by 6...no lines for bag check.. in park at 6:06..stood by Hyperion theatre...3 of us on android...2 non wifi..1 wifi...at 7 had to toggle with no red button...ur stomach drops when you hear cheers and you can't get in...people in front got 29 and DH closed app totally and gor back in with BG 70 at 7:01...fast dash to SR and was off by 7:40..when we exited and stand by line said 145 minutes..now TTM with 50 mn wait..at 8:13 they are up to BG 33...we were on RotR at 11:45..thanks for all your posts

Not sure as of the last few years, but SBS usually very light crowds in the parks.

Especially if it is also raining. I happened to be in AK on SBS either 2 or 3 years ago. It was pretty empty. I was pretty wet but luckily the temp wasn’t bad.

Is there a general consensus that today there seemed to be a very painful lag for the VQ to open up.....maybe it went live close to 30/40 seconds late?

If you feel you got in at 7am plus or minus 5 seconds, please speak up........as many are reporting hiccups that seem to indicate a slightly later opening of the VQ today.
