Disney's PORT ORLEANS RIVERSIDE RESORT Information & Questions

We had a very good dinner at Boatwrights on Wednesday night. The French Onion soup was delicious and DH had an excellent Prime Rib. We were very impressed with the quality of the meat. I liked my shrimp and grits, too. Our waiter, Fern, was great. He made the evening feel special with complimentary champagne and some ice cream for dessert. It had been a last minute reservation and we were really glad to have gone there.

We also had a good room location, room 1506, preferred room. It was just steps away from the south depot and very handy for going to both the bus stop and the main building. The only downside of the room was that it faced the parking lot and it seemed to be the main route for the laundry carts that gather the laundry from that entire section of the resort. They made a lot of noise. But all in all, we were very happy with the resort.

I had made it over to the campfire on Wednesday night. The wooded setting, right next to Muddy Rivers, made it feel like I was at a camp in the woods. It was really nice. We also went to Disney Springs twice, using both bus and boat, and that was fun. The Port Oreleans resorts are great places to stay if you plan on going to Disney Springs. :)

I've seen multiple people state that they will be making their room requests, but I'm confused on how they are doing so. When I go to my reservation, the only thing I can request is the highest floor or a corner room. I can't type in room number or building numbers that I prefer?

You can call 407-934-7639 to make a room request. They cannot guarentee that you will get the request but they will note in on your reservation. They assign the rooms about 10 days before arrival so it is also recommended that you call POR at 407-934-6000 to confirm the request. You then cross your fingers and hope!!

My husband and I stayed at POR back in 2013 as 2 adults. We stayed at Pop Century in 2015 and didn’t like it nearly as much. We now have a daughter who will be 4 when we plan to go in November. We would like to get a King bed with a pull down child bed for her. If I book a King bed room as 2 adults and 1 child, will I automatically be assigned one of the pull down bed King rooms in Alligator Bayou? I know the mansion rooms are lovely, but I would hate to book a King room only to find out our 4 year old has to sleep in bed with us.

I would just call them. When I am prepping our trip, I never hesitate to call the Disney 407 number to discuss our room, ask questions about the package and anything else we want to do. Heck, I've even learned to ask about any promotions or discounts that might be available that weren't available the last time I called. On my last call to discuss our November trip in 2019, I even got a nice Photo Pass discount because I asked and paid right then.

If you have a TouringPlans subscription you can basically choose the room view you want and they will fax in a room request 30 days before your arrival date. They can't guarantee anything, but we have been successful using their tool.

Is there anyway to guarantee a mansion room without booking Royal Room?

Nope, other than Royal room any category could possibly get you an Alligator Bayou room. But if you book Standard or Garden View (not the 5th sleeper variants) that increases your chances of a mansion building a lot.

Are there any rooms that do not allow dogs (I know that service dogs are allowed in all rooms)? We need a dog free room/area if possible. We will have 5 people (ages 3+) in a room. Not sure if there is a section that is dog free (besides service dogs). TIA!

I might be misreading this but I have always requested a King Bed Mansion Room in Building #85 and have always been given a room as requested. One time I was assigned to Alligator Bayou but I we the front desk and i was reassigned a room in Building #85. So based on that I think you can be assured a mansion room without getting booking a Royal Room.

I called and asked when booking my room because 3 out of the 5 of us are horribly allergic to dogs. They told me that not all buildings allow dogs and they put a note on my file to have a VIP cleaning for allergies done prior to our arrival. I am so thankful for this service because even a service dog’s dander could make their eyes swell shut.

Thank you for this info. I will do that as well.

We are in love with Riverside and we haven't stayed there yet!! Photos and videos have sold us on the resort. We will be staying there in 2021.

As you said yourself, you have at least once been assigned an Alligator Bayou room, even though you requested mansion building. Although they were fortunately able to switch you at checkin that time, it cannot be assured if the resort is full. Most times they will honour such requests of course, I was merely saying that requests are not guaranteed.

ok got it thanks

FYI for anyone wanting to rope-drop DHS and wanting to drop luggage to transfer with bell services before you head to the park - they don’t open until 6 am. Should still be enough time if you just want to get a BG but you may have trouble getting to the front of the pack for SDD or MFSR. The concierge at the front desk at 5:30 did say he would be able to hold our baggage if we wanted to come back to Riverside later.

Hopefully not too many other people will be trying to switch hotels and also RD DHS on the same day, but this could be useful for anyone who is crazy like me :P

i just check on the WDW website to see if there were any new packages that might save me a few dollars and it appeares the POR is sold out the last week of March, as it shows no rooms available. Has anyone seen the same thing?

Has anyone been recently to see if the food court options have changed for 2020?
We stayed at POR last week and the make your own pasta and make your own salad options are gone. They have windows closed that used to serve food. I can't say exactly what else is gone now but there are definitely less options than they used to have.

I had been stalking the WDW website for weeks in an attempt to get a better discount for the January trip that we just returned from. Random discounted rooms would show up within days of our trip, including standard rooms rooms with a discount. Keep stalking the website, especially within the 30 day out mark and hopefully something will open up for you. :)

We will be there in less that two weeks, What to pack? shorts? jeans? leggings? Long sleeves? Short sleeves? all of the above????
