I'm looking to use up my Biz Plat Dell credit--anyone have any suggestions for non-computer things that might be useful (we are pretty much an entirely Apple household)?

Dd just got into engineering at Queen's University (in Kingston, ON -- approx. 2.5 hours east of Toronto)! This is her top choice and she is thrilled (as am I)! I honestly feel that the school is a perfect fit for her and believe she will thrive in the program! Just wanted to share!

I checked and they take cc payments (they charge a fee, but I may finally be able to meet the steep $7,000.00 Cdn MSR {for 70,000 MRs} on the Cdn AmEx Platinum).

Congratulations to your DD!!! :cheer2:

Congratulations to your dd :cheer2: What an excellent university!
Absolutely! I've been texting everyone that's important to us for the last hour (I don't use Facebook)! It's an AMAZING school with a great reputation in Canada (not U of T or McGill level, but she would have been miserable at either of those schools and I want her to enjoy her college years!).
So you're the one holding out. :rotfl2:
No. Me also. I've never joined facebook.

But I did sign up for Instagram last week while daughter was in Hong Kong/Macao/Siem Reap/Phnom Penh/Bangkok as she was posting little videos as she traveled. She got back last night.
Make that three of us. I actually do have an account that I opened years ago to enter a local sweepstakes, but I NEVER use it.
I left Facebook five years ago. I do have a private Twitter that I use for reading only, a pretty much locked-down Instagram for family and very close friends, and a new Instagram (without my real name) to keep track of my Noom journey/weightloss and exercise.

Ouch... how’s your overall spend with Amex? With a lowball offer like that, I’d seriously consider moving onto a MS or CS Plat, then canceling the vanilla.

That bad, eh? 😅 I had a lot of spend last year for the various MSRs. Was kind of hoping that might help. But after MSR, <$100, sometimes a few hundred per statement.

Any video game players? I've been doing Switch games and accessories. They have Xbox too. Or buy the Microsoft GC and sell it.
I'm torn on Biz Platinum because of the annual fee but I'm seeing Dell does sell Xbox Live digital gift cards. I think these are just digital gift cards, but the "Live" is throwing me off. All DS ever wants for birthday, Christmas, etc. is xbox gift cards.

I have FB but I've gotten to where I loath it. Too much drama and not enough about the people I'm actually interested in. Instagram is so much better - which is werid considering FB owns Instagram.

I bought DVC a few years before joining Disboards. I actually learned about DVC in 1997 when I stayed on a promo at Disney's Hilton Head Resort. Three years later after I gave it some thought I bought my first contract at Boardwalk.

I was active with a bunch of others on the old AOL message boards. When they disappeared I wandered from Yahoo group to other Yahoo groups and eventually settled into Disboards after a friend of mine was at Grand Floridian and met Pete Werner there. After a conversation with him she got me to sign up along with many of the rest of our group. They are scattered here and there around these boards.

Man, after staying at Boardwalk a couple of times, I only wish I had known about or been in a position to buy DVC back then. Buying BWV at that time was the best deal in DVC, bar none.

I still read the DVC boards here daily, and I am definitely trying to convince myself that we are for sure not buying resale BWV points. Anytime soon. Probably.

I agree, my only DVC regret is not buying in sooner! But I feel lucky to have bought BWV resale when we did. It was just when the resale market started to go up. I told my DH if it ever dropped like it did back then I want another add on!

Apple house here, too. We used up one of them getting DD a backpack that looked professional and would hold her laptop. She was going to get it either way, so the credit was actually useful. The next credit was used purchasing a wireless router that would work for her in Norway ( and with her Apple devices). So it is possible to find stuff, but not super easy. In the end, we found a use for the $200 worth of credits, but only because DD needed a couple of items. I have no idea how we will spend it this year.

I have 2 free weekend HH night certificates to use this year. First for $15,000.00 spend on my Hilton AmEx biz card and the 2nd from my Aspire renewal. I tried to apply one of them to my upcoming stay at the WA Maldives, but they weren't able to do it (they would have to cancel one of my existing nights and re-book, but there aren't any nights left on points for our stay, so if they cancel I'd lose the night; I'm going to HUCA tomorrow though). I'm looking at possibly going to London in July for a weekend at the Conrad; my OCD is forcing me to get max. value out of these certificates.

@IFlossU,

I agree with @bernina and @wanderlust7. The only card I'd bet on you receiving in hand by next Monday is a Platinum, Business Platinum, or Hilton Aspire (and maybe the Bonvoy Brilliant). These super premium cards are automatically expedited. Amex does not typically expedite its lower AF cards, including the Gold or BBP. You could call in to see if they'd expedite these cards, but a frontline csr agent is unlikely to be able to do this for you and you may need to escalate it to their manager who might.

Don't count on getting an instant number. It's very YMMV and as mentioned, sometimes it glitches out. Just looking back at my recent applications, I had the option to get my instant card number on a Schwab Plat, Green and Aspire, but did not get the option on a Biz Green or Biz Gold.

As for Gold vs. BBP (or some sort of Platinum), keep in mind the long game. If you get P2 involved in Amex, you two can make out really well cross-supporting each other to new Amex cards. But P2 needs a good card with a high support bonus from which to support you. (Amex occasionally runs limited time promotions that bump up support bonuses from certain cards. Each MR-earning card maxes out at 55k MR support points earned per calendar year, regardless of the bonus per support.) Since Amex SUBs are generally once per lifetime, you don't want to waste a signup using a support link from a card that earns only a 5k or 10k MR bonus. The Gold has only a 10k MR/support bonus. AFAIK, this has never gone up since Amex started its universal support program. The BBP earns 10k-15k MR per support click. The BBP earns 15k MR/support currently. The personal Platinum earns 15k MR/support (and IIRC it has gone up to 20k MR/support), and the Biz Platinums earn 15k-20k MR/support. While the Gold's earning categories are better (4x MR supermarkets up to $25k and restaurants) than the BBP (2x MR on everything up to $50k), keep in mind the Gold has a $250 AF you need to negate either by finding value in the $120 ($10/month) "dining" credits and $100 airline credit or in the additional MR points you'll earn vs. the BBP's 2x MR on a $0 AF. Unless you really intend to hit the Gold's bonus categories hard, I think the BBP has more upside with no AF and higher supportability.

Another thing to consider is the personal Gold and Platinums will add a card to P2's 5/24 count (vs. the BBP being a business card that doesn't count). If P2's count is low, it doesn't really matter and it may be a good time to pick up the Gold, because it's generally considered to be a keeper card, so P2 may as well pick it up early in the game and let it age off 24 months sooner than later.

One more thing, the BBP comes with a 0% APR for the first year if you need a little float.
To @Lain and all those that have replied, I appreciate your quick responses. With the information given I have decided to use our HSA for half the balance, and then finish DH’s CIP with the remaining balance. This will allow me to app DH for an Amex and not be in a rush to get it here. I’m leaning towards the BBP because ultimately I would like us both to be able to park MR’s with no AF someday down the road.
Thank you again!

Anyone know what happens if you don't show up for an AA award flight? We have a trip coming up, that I'd like to extend by a day, I thought I could do it, but when I called they said it was a "web special" and they can't do that over the phone, I can only book it online and I can't modify it online myself. :crazy2: So now that I had myself thinking we could have an extra day, I really want that day, haha. I've found a cheap one way returning flight. Wondering if we could just not show up for the booked return flight. Do they penalize you for not showing? I know there is a fee for cancelling.

Does anyone here actually HAVE the NCL CC through BofA? The thread on cruise critic is not very active and I shudder to think what would happen over there when I introduce the possibility of transferring to Chase to pay with ur's after doing a Meta Upgrade. 😨
