I think it was a lot better before the change in Mid December. I mean the vibe of the RD crowd. When it was first come first serve, once you were through people were celebrating, and there wasn't any tension. It also helped the whole park was open at 6am too lol
I can absolutely see how that would be so much better. (Especially if you stayed to the right) 😉 🤣

So, I've been personally complaining that O can't practice at 7 AM because that is right in the middle of my commute to work 6 days a week. Then, I see this about the DL app, and of course that would work! So I get myself all ready, waiting, anticipating the moment, watching for my phone to hit 10 AM....and nothing. Land closed, nothing. Oh, right, park doesn't open at 7 AM. (*smacks forehead*). I'll try again at 11. Though, not sure when BGs open out there when they have their 8am version of EMH and a 9am open.
....aaand BGs apparently wait till AFTER the DL EMH and MM hour. So, it would be 12 noon now....except that's right during my commute home. Can't win. 😛

Yep - granted my day might be chalked up as an anomaly, but there was absolutely nothing fun or exciting about our experience. The “feeling” and “vibe” in the park that morning is the primary reason we (likely) won’t be doing it again. Life’s too short and for us it’s vacation. Very happy it works for so many, but I’m content that I’ll be on the outside looking in for now. 8-)

Admittedly a topic for another thread.
I can totally understand that. I watched the DL video and all I could think was, I'm not sure if we'll ever be able to really enjoy that park again. :(

Thanks again to the keepers of this thread! Had a successful morning, wife got us group 43. Happy with my ability to rally the troops (dd4, ds7, wife, brother and my dad) to be here at 610. Even got on SDD by 7:15.

Just got off the ride, had a great time! My son immediately said it was worth waking up early!

The comments in that vid infuriate me. Saying how locals are being selfish and shouldn't be riding it for the 3rd, 4th time, etc.
I talked to someone yesterday who just got back from WDW. They didn't go on rise of the Resistance, didn't even try. They "heard" that you have to be at the park at 5am, and that all the slots are taken up by locals who are riding before they go to work.
I just couldn't point out that the ride runs all day, so that would be impossible. I just said what a shame it was, and that I hoped I had better luck when I went.

ugh, where do people come up with this stuff. Then proceed to spread it

Are folks who have been through the experience of obtaining a BG, hearing those in line with misinformation or no clue?

I appreciate the zen mindset of many on the thread. Unfortunately I can’t achieve the same level of peace with how we opt to craft our WDW days, and I think it’s OK to admit that. Our vacation time is short and valuable, our days at WDW are limited. At the heart of it, I seek out / appreciate methods to have better control over how we spend our time vs just knowing we will be able to ride sometime that day.

Like is always said - no system works best for everyone. As an on-site person I benefit greatly from the FP system, while others do not. Having gone through it, this one cuts against how we choose to spend our time. It’s all good. Happiness for us can be found at MK, Epcot, DAK, or the resort pool. :goodvibes

And now I will see myself to the “I’m all for BG’s... but...” thread where this comment belongs anyway. :rotfl:

This message will self-distruct when we’re back in a few weeks and I find myself at DHS at rope drop again.

I educated people in every park and on every bus ride. If they were open to hearing, I shared what I knew. Most misinformation was along the line of getting to the park early and running to the ride.

I was chatting with a couple dads on the bus to the pro bowl. They didn't know much so I wanted to help them out. One wife yelled from the back of the bus(don't know why they sat far away) I know all that. Stop talking to her. 🤔 Very odd. I was just trying to help. We went back to talking football

Worse are the people that read this stuff or hear this stuff and don't take the time to do research for themselves. The amount of people who are just to lazy to do just a bit of research for a trip that is costing them a lot of money

But I'm kinda glad there are people like this, because if everyone were as prepared as the people here, it would be even harder.

Somebody's wife didn't want to get up at 5 in the morning. 😆

I have to admit that I think the same thing often about all of the things I do a crazy amount of research about. I feel kinda bad, but whatever, every advantage helps!

I have no idea, just wondering this myself. I can't take the 2yo off of MDE, but she has no ticket to be tapped into the park....so guess I have to make sure she's not selected or I'll get an error?
I wish I could test it from home, lol, I don't want to take the time to pick the party if I can select all, but don't want to make the mistake and have to do it all over and have it affect us getting a BG. Ugh... :)

I think, if one of the people you select shows up as not being in the park for the day (like a 2yo), it gives you the option to remove them and continue through the process. Shouldn't have to "do it all over" or anything.

I think those of us in the blogiverse tend to underestimate the numbers of those who are not. I think there are still plenty of Guests (especially 1st-timers) who go no farther than the Disney web sites, believing that's all they need to plan their vacation.

The BG system clearly puts them at a disadvantage -- but I can't think of a better system.

And now I will continue being a bad moderator and say off topic:
As many of you know I have lived in Orlando for 23 years and been an AP holder for almost as long. I have been called by many here on the Dis a Disney apologist and not caring about what others go through and because I'm a local I can't understand the stress.
My positive outlook on Disney comes directly from the fact that I have been and continue going through some truly terrible and unfair situations that I will not disclose BUT Disney has always been my place of solace and comfort and happiness. If I didn't live here I honestly don't think I would be able to continue dealing with what I'm dealing. And this will sound cliche, there are so many things that are horrible in real life that stressing out over something that might or might not happen ahead of time, without you having any control over is not worth your energy, it really isn't. Even if this is your one and only trip, are you going to ruin your day (no one else ruins your day but yourself with your thoughts and actions) because you couldn't ride RotR? Obviously be sad, upset even, but you are at the most magical place on Earth, enjoy it, think of the people who will never have the opportunity to come, ever.
And again the only thing you need to do is be at the park early and open the app and join at park opening, 99% chance of riding.
It's all about perspective, when I'm having a "why me" moment I think of members of my own family who will never get to come to WDW
My motto is "create yourself a great day" not "have a great day"

Maybe it's coming from the world of SDCC, but I love a system that rewards making an effort. The info is online and free, you just have to decide it's worth your time. Some people are fine just showing up, but not me.

And now off to pack for tomorrow with my freshly printed 2 page, 4 column packing list, complete with subsections and check boxes...
