Chunky, We're Home! A Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Double Preview! THE END 4/12 TR COMPLETE!

Day 2 Part 2: Shutting Down MK!

Our first half of the day was already so amazing...we went to Batuu and survived...the HEAT! Boy was it hot that day!
I swore never to come back during August but when Star Wars calls, we GO. ✈

We capped off our amazing morning with lunch at the Brown Derby, which is the only signature restaurant in Hollywood Studios. I do like Brown Derby but I find the food to be very continental sometimes, like it's what you'd find in a hotel restaurant - always solid and does the job and sometimes has experimental stuff but overall nothing to write home about. However, the cobb salad is always a draw so I knew that that was what I would be getting for lunch!

Steve and I shared a dirty martini, because we felt very hollywood and posh at that moment.

I was just melting so I stuck with an iced tea and just took sips of Steve's drink. Sometimes if I'm too hot, alcohol and me don't mix so I think the amount I had was good enough!

For starters, Chunkydust and I had the tuna tartare. It was quite nice.

And here is my cobb salad! I asked them for the dressing on the side because I like to control the amount on my salad to avoid getting it too soggy. It was good for this sweltering day and was light yet filling. I don't remember what Steve got as I don't have a picture!

During lunch I downloaded some photopass pictures from the preview, and I particularly liked this one:

Just your everyday Sunday afternoon, tossing my hair in front of a tie fighter! :darth:

It was also my niece Eva's birthday! Unfortunately we couldn't be with her since we were in Batuu for most of the day but I had to post this on instagram because she is the sweetest little girl. In our Ohana Means Chunky trip 2 years ago, she celebrated her birthday at Disney. I think we're going to have to make another trip to Disney because she talks about coming back all the time! Her dad said 2021, LOL so I guess we're in for another Epic trip and another Chunky family trip in 2021.

He did this back in May and it was really cute so I booked him for another haircut because he totally needed one anyways, and if he's going to be at Disney, then why not? We declined the pixie dusting because I dont' think sweat and confetti are a good mix on the scalp.

I changed into my Beauty and the Beast dress because we were in MK and I'm a princess here.

We relished the light as the sun went down as then it wouldn't be so blazingly hot.

We walked around some more and we also had an FP for Mine Train!
I'm doing my best to disguise my coaster chin which is just a nice way of saying double chin.

I am pretty sure we did more rides but I have no pictures so no recollection, LOL.

Oh wait but I did find our picture form Haunted Mansion the day before, hahaha! See I knew we went on it!

We had dinner at Columbia Harbor House, my favorite MK quick service. We weren't super hungry so we shared a fried fish and shrimp platter and I had to add the mac 'n cheese for extra sustenance since we were sharing!
It was really good!

I knew I wanted to watch HEA that evening so we stuck around and managed to get good spots in the hub. I had been texting @Monykalyn who was also in MK with her daughter and she managed to find us right before the show started! It was a pretty awesome view that night:

What a great day!! We had our first glimpse of Galaxy's Edge, I got to ride the Millenium Falcon, and we shut down MK! It didn't even matter we were leaving the next day! Well, we'd be back next weekend, so that helped!

Coming up...more fun in Hollywood Studios!

Owners, what is the best thing you store in your lockers?

Well since we always get a one bedroom when we stay, I have a lot more kitchen items in my locker. I know this sounds strange, but I think my two favorite things in my OL are my Tigger coffee cup and my butter dish. We always order groceries since we stay longer (West coast flights and all) and I usually make coffee every morning in the room, the DVC coffee cups are all so small and I need a BIG cup in the morning to get me going. The butter dish is nice because we usually make toast, english muffins or French Toast and you don't want cold butter for that. Butter out on a plate is OK, but a real butter dish says home. I know I'm weird.

Waiting for FOP:

I love Steve's shirt!

I tried this margarita, it was the La Choza Clasica - thought it would a nice introduction to their margaritas but honestly I wished I got something fruitier. It just tasted really strong.

That's funny. I had it the other day and loved it!

Ok Steve doesn't look as excited as me but maybe it's because I tried to give him a mohawk hair-do 😆

I was kind of wondering what was up with his hair. I've never seen it like that before.

The first thing we did was make a beeline to Smuggler's Run - the wait time was about 20 minutes. It was pretty accurate. We went through the standby line, and it was so well though-out and full of detail

That's not bad at all. On our preview day it was a good solid 45 minutes.

After Falcon we went to Oga's Cantina where we had a reservation. The line was really long but it moved quickly if you have a reservation.

They learned from the DL opening. Everyone waited in line for the Cantina and couldn't walk around the land and spend money!

I was hungry so ordered breakfast: The Mustafarian Lava Roll, which was very good. Like a cinnamon roll but not sticky, and had oreo crumble on it.

I've never been in there at breakfast time. I wonder if ours has those same things.

Alas our 3 hour time slot was coming to and end. How did it go by so quickly'?!?! We had not even begun to absorb the entire space, and there was still so much to see. But oh well, good thing we were coming again next weekend!!
It was a productive 3 hours though, we rode Smugglers 3 times, ate a few snacks and libations at Ogas. Tried a Ronto Roaster and saw some stormtroopers. :)

You got a TON done in that first preview. Ours was four hours long and I dont think we got nearly that much accomplished. Two rides on SR, a Ronto Roaster, and some shops. It wasn't until our 3rd preview that we were able to get into the Cantina.

However, the cobb salad is always a draw so I knew that that was what I would be getting for lunch!

Yes, I need to put this place back on the list!

For starters, Chunkydust and I had the tuna tartare. It was quite nice.

That does look very nice!

And here is my cobb salad!

Hello!!!! Get in my belly!

I was on a mission to find the zoom in, zoom out magic shot and we did find it! We waited about 15 minutes in the heat for this but it's worth it, it's such a cool shot!!

I've never heard of that! It is a cool shot!

I got one of my old time favorite snacks, the Cheshire Cat Tail from Cheshire Cafe!

I just had one of those the other day and they are good!

Nice you got to see HEA and close down the park. I'm always so tired by that time we usually just go home.

Great day at HS and MK with some great food mixed in.
Love the Cobb salad at BD. I had it again in January. Yum!
It was such a great day! Being in SW Land for the first time really was an unforgettable experience!

That's cool! I really like reading things like this. It's the little things that make us feel like we're at home more so than a hotel room. I love the idea of a butter dish though!
I love Steve's shirt!
It's so funny!
That's funny. I had it the other day and loved it!
Mine was super strong. I guess I was expecting more of a lime flavor too.
I was kind of wondering what was up with his hair. I've never seen it like that before.
It was the day before his haircut so it was a bit long and I decided to do something about it, buahaha.
That's not bad at all. On our preview day it was a good solid 45 minutes.
We were the first preview of the day so that is probably why it was so low at first?
They learned from the DL opening. Everyone waited in line for the Cantina and couldn't walk around the land and spend money!
And Disney can't have that!
I've never been in there at breakfast time. I wonder if ours has those same things.
It probably does, or maybe it actually has real food? @Lesley Wake would know.
You got a TON done in that first preview. Ours was four hours long and I dont think we got nearly that much accomplished. Two rides on SR, a Ronto Roaster, and some shops. It wasn't until our 3rd preview that we were able to get into the Cantina.
We did a lot but we still felt like it was over so quickly!!
Yes, I need to put this place back on the list!
Cobb salad for the win!
I've never heard of that! It is a cool shot!
I saw @dizneeat got one and it was so cool so I had to find it in MK!
I just had one of those the other day and they are good!
YUM!!
Nice you got to see HEA and close down the park. I'm always so tired by that time we usually just go home.
Oh trust me, we were tired but I never let that stop me at Disney!

It probably does, or maybe it actually has real food? @Lesley Wake would know.
@franandaj Oga's seems to have the same breakfast menu on both coasts.

Docking Bay 7 in DLR has the Oats and Cinnamon Roll every morning. On Friday, Sat, Sunday they have a proper breakfast entree with potatoes, eggs, sausage, and mini cinnamon roll. And, it's off menu, but they will do just the potatoes as a side dish (my friend didn't want the whole plate). Ronto Roasters has the breakfast wrap every morning (eggs, sausage, cheese, sauce).

In DHS, DB7 has the breakfast platter, cinnamon roll, and oats every day, BUT, breakfast is only from 8-9, so if you aren't there early, you can't get it (I've heard reports that unless you complete the order by 9, you aren't going to be able to get breakfast foods, even if you are already in line).

I'm 3 pages late, but finally here :) I was so sick in December on our two DHS planned days, so I'm looking forward to a Batuu-do over in April! Your pics are getting me all excited to go back!

happy to call many of you on the DISboards my friends/therapists. I say therapists because I think only such a community would understand my anxiety at waking up 5 minutes late 60 days out and wailing for 10 minutes that all hope is lost in getting FP+ but then getting really excited to grab a last minute 'Ohana reservation and thinking this is the best day ever. You guys get it, right? LOL.
::yes::

The first thing we did was make a beeline to Smuggler's Run - the wait time was about 20 minutes. It was pretty accurate. We went through the standby line, and it was so well though-out and full of detail.
So glad you posted pics of the standby line - I've only ever ridden single riders, and the standby line is so cool! I didn't realize you got to see the MF from above - awesome!

swore never to come back during August but when Star Wars calls, we GO. ✈
Ha! I do love me my August trips, but I also remember thinking my face might actually melt off :faint:

What a jam-packed day, and full of fun and great people! :goodvibes

Oh wow, that sounds like an awesome and fun filled day! Even more impressive was that you managed to tackle both DHS and MK in the FL late summer heat.

Omg that was such a fun night- thanks to you and Steve for sharing your awesome HEA spot. I’ve got one of the pictures as my lock screen on my iPad. Didn’t we ride Mine train like 3 times with the extra FP’s?
Looks like we will be back in August again this year too. It’s hot. but I swear the crowds aren’t as bad as they were in January this year!
That kid also had her phone interview for her third DCP today too (although I think it will be grad school in the fall and not playing -er I mean working-at Disney for her

Tired looks at ME:
You call Steve "Tired"? And why shouldn't he look at you?
So one of the new things we had done for the first time was to get an Owner's Locker! I should have gotten one when we got our first set of APs but I didn't even know how often we were going to go! Since we are DVC owners we got a discount so we finally took the plunge. I'm really glad I did because it's a lot of stuff to lug back and forth so to have a storage place is really nice for extra stuff. You wanna know what the best thing I have stored in our owner's locker? Liquid hand soap!!! LOL. Seriously I get so annoyed when I have to use bar soaps to wash my hands so I have a pump bottle of soap now in our owners locker and it's the best thing ever, hahaha.
I really like the idea of the Owners Lockers. Why lug the same things back and forth all the time? Makes perfect sense!
Needs more pillows.
I have a very important question for everyone: Do I clash?!?
Girl... I'm a dude. You're asking me?????
Steve went and got breakfast and we shared a bounty platter. I stole all the waffles.
How I feel right now. 2am... still over 4 hours to go...
And a Chunkydump for a win! @Steppesister would be proud!
Yay!
I got one of these to cool off before we left the park and headed to MK:

buPsGhTahvg4suX4DjWr2_6AuXWd5-WeMaeBjQ2gsDFF4n1QESmh1iZl6Q5KKldd3zivUqbLUR6EWTIPcsXvzfjNgGM6TwRKaMP7BrnUaW-CT1sNlhK5un-BjGPqs8Yk5FJVQVDdion2-5_tlTjMCXcZY6z-W7NPw-gGMTZpQ8UBUPRNJVHRVPemyfilu0e1TxaMC_33ftCaPy4zzkww_qKRTkc1DFIeTCc2bDvVAsGEVPO8V2KBgZoi2W4aTHvc3OX9hsh6P8WbSGs5h8YCQF2fgjx-A2q9vAOFwvtNcFy6vQNyEdfJkgvDAJy3ZSgVz_BMFWjztaZxHRLX6nByvl0zyyq998NlCj6cRvMsrMS1RjVFB_wKsh7Q-m8ZU3yIc9jwiuK5n3TkkarNbO9_eLR-xQjZfJLVZ3cU4bHS3MKfTcPFYe7khGB-E2ZbzhiXo9rPKnfEGS5gcPDgisEcsvcFRh8SwlCnnQdn0euq-VVDLNLJlaPOpS90NzHcRphX7gzRJhYGM7HP9iMMJKTakvp2ubq83dSW918CjUBbENKkpJEwDltMrN2-ORF13romMYEwkiuGUleFp4Iz9wJg5uuqF0dKryX-8NYiIYjxxWm405CPNayY2EjcFPIanA6eGIxC2e1tS-rzKH9fgm24DrPIcc3Irf9bD75dBqBNTHXTiKxEQtIKLlfBN20lUBX6j6GutsfP81DxiEb0ReYsJ3S4D4Y1bO2T1mkm8EaMJszEt384=w568-h757-no
oooohhh… that looks good. What is that?
French Onion Soup:
mmmm… BOG French onion soup! Soooooo good!
I liked the braised pork better than the chicken, remember when they used to have that?
What??? It's gone?!?!?
Then of course we had to get some Dole Whip:
But of course!
And of course we had a trip through Steve's dream greenhouse:
So... did he ever finish that bench? And did he restart his hydroponics?
I also picked up some Esquites, which is Mexican street corn (off the cob). It was good, nice and tangy from the fresh lime and lots of cheese.
Never heard of that! Looks yummy!
I stopped at Karamel Kusche and got a pineapple to save for later.
I finally had one!!! It was so good!!

Ok Steve doesn't look as excited as me but maybe it's because I tried to give him a mohawk hair-do 😆
:lmao:
Suits him.

:rolleyes2
I was most excited to see the Millenium Falcon. That ship...it defined my childhood!
Wasn't it just the best?!?!?
This is the entrance that is closer to Baseline Taphouse and not the Toy Story Land entrance
Interesting... I've never been in through the Toy Story entrance. Exited yes... but never entered.
It was so cool to see things like Tie fighters and X-Wings.
::yes::
And then...we saw it...the Milleniun Falcon!!
We were in awe. It was so cool to see it life-sized.
:goodvibes
We went through the standby line, and it was so well though-out and full of detail.
It really is!
It's so cool to be able to see the top of the falcon. So much detail and design!
I loved that detail too!
The pre-boarding section you are taken "inside" the Millenium Falcom. I died when we first walked in! So amazing!!
Me too! Me too!
I believe Steve and I were Engineers.
Alas!
I was hungry so ordered breakfast: The Mustafarian Lava Roll, which was very good. Like a cinnamon roll but not sticky, and had oreo crumble on it.
Oh! Don't think I even noticed that. Sounds interesting and good!
And here were our DRINKS. Yes there's ALCOHOL in them. It was 9:45am but its 5 o'Clock on a different planet! We're in Batuu, silly!
 Of course!
Everyone kept saying the Fuzze Taun Taun kept making their lips numb but I did not get that feeling.
No? I know I did.
I think Steve and I were pilots and we have found our calling I think! It's so much fun and we actually did a somewhat decent job in that we didn't CRASH. :rotfl:
 Some day I'll pilot that hunk of junk.
 Great photo.
OK I did end up leaving with Jabba because I thought he was so unusual and cute.
I totally get that!

We capped off our amazing morning with lunch at the Brown Derby,
Nice! I enjoy it in there. :)
I find the food to be very continental sometimes, like it's what you'd find in a hotel restaurant
Hmm... Okay, I can see that. I still like it, though. :)
However, the cobb salad is always a draw
Yes!!! ::yes::
Steve and I shared a dirty martini, because we felt very hollywood and posh at that moment.
During lunch I downloaded some photopass pictures from the preview, and I particularly liked this one:

wZr9WuGN6QmJ_BeWwsy5kav1pP6tNyga6Ez03pdCXDRJrTj5LkjAlBdG8AT8-y7eReljn4jn8OzJKIkGYLIfFyXETROasf-U5CL4V7bpLUdQ0G_UZdOgZzQbJGVdOgfwjU8Is2vgb22GLpiRzzXw5teQpt8VCFjW5zT5Jeg03E6Gk1Wf7DnBpgdFevmEhuULzWl2JVYbMHntiDOKXJ6-d9JspfPNhr2sEMr5w0Cy452EawR_I5umnkDatonc1S7asTkNxNtRjXqHRpdY4heZwcZ-2Y8xUuWfHs7y00zlCl53PH0ielK7isZ9XMTAKo99x8BmqKZNzI0m29rycZKSDKLiHuzbaPh8XJf9Vlmp_p1kBl3-Gj3VLJlYpqRfxmld-AcXL940Js2ljv1F8d4ZC3nsgsv1BnbZgJU76Rbvzz3H2JSBlwasUD8UJPRis8AJ5IFFX7DVwkLw8pkGjJMia5S8a791bli1a4nx9REFGUbq1HEYliRZEUd01Dii6I-tdBsQ85UdaHIPFbB-mjqEj84C2qfKdQiOtEDCj-Tq3bSjSC9u0dA_XX3WmDPO7j9fK6kzXPeFhqkwe35rVFEemaLmoNJDtoeh-03ZYUtw5w1ZWZvuWM6Giz1Xmpopa9DCXDPT9sgj2UDoOZU19dNhC_D4NQdzOdO06MsG945CrQ29trD6GAoiIFJa9FFX_1dSxUu0ByevHWfs9cQr4pnPFw87--rvAx1Y8c67hSP_8guFUFCQdA=w603-h903-no
I like it too. :)
Just your everyday Sunday afternoon, tossing my hair in front of a tie fighter! :darth:
We had to park hop to MK right after because Steve had another appointment on a chair...

at Harmony Barber Shop!
Had to get rid of the mohawk?
I changed into my Beauty and the Beast dress because we were in MK and I'm a princess here.
::yes:: Of course you are.
Princesses ride the Peoplemover too!!
It must be done. Obligatory foot shot or go home.
I got one of my old time favorite snacks, the Cheshire Cat Tail from Cheshire Cafe!
Nope. I did try it. I did. But it's just not for me.
Maybe some day I'll try it again, but... kinda doubt it.
Gorgeous shot!
But we still had to cool down even more so we got a Dole Whip float to share.
Yes please!
Love that. :)
Nice capture!

Great trip so far though I'm still bummed our plans never lined up! We seemed to always be in the exact opposite place

Finally here! :) Only 3 pages behind, but all caught up now!

Cute, cute, CUTE!

And a Chunkydump for a win! @Steppesister would be proud!

Steve!! You nailed it!! :goodvibes

After the Safari we went to Rafiki's Planet Watch which is where they are doing the new animation classes.

I adore doing the drawing classes!

I managed a few same day FPs - we were really lucky.

Peter Pan

Score!! That's awesome!

I also picked up some Esquites, which is Mexican street corn (off the cob). It was good, nice and tangy from the fresh lime and lots of cheese.
It was a small portion but after our big lunch it was all we needed.

Where is this?! I would LOVE that!

Soon we were brought into our respective cockpots.

As long as it's not crockpots!
But it's a ride definitely more fun in groups of people that you KNOW. Just sayin'

Especially ones like Kari and I who can't fly worth a crap. And crash into anything that CAN be crashed into.

Everyone kept saying the Fuzze Taun Taun kept making their lips numb but I did not get that feeling. I think I didn't have that much foam or it melted. However a subsequent time I got it I felt the numbing sensation!

I sure did for me! Such a weird sensation!

I think Steve and I were pilots and we have found our calling I think! It's so much fun and we actually did a somewhat decent job in that we didn't CRASH. :rotfl:

I need some flying lessons. LOL!

It was ok, I did like the sausage but didn't care for the slaw or anything else.

I really like them slaw and all. It's my go-to lunch now if I'm not doing HBD.

I enjoy the Brown Derby a lot. Nice, elegant-ish break from the park with decent food. I'd agree with everything you said here.

We declined the pixie dusting because I dont' think sweat and confetti are a good mix on the scalp.

Good call. I doubt you'd get it out in DAYS.

I'm doing my best to disguise my coaster chin which is just a nice way of saying double chin.

 You're adorable. Stop!

I wanna be that lady in front of you when I'm that old! Zipping around on a coasters and having the time of her life!

Great day at HS and MK with some great food mixed in.
Love the Cobb salad at BD. I had it again in January. Yum!
It really is a yummy salad!!

I'm not sure which breakfast I liked better, DB7 or Woody's Lunchbox. There aren't many choices in DHS but I did like my sandwich at Woody's but I liked the Cinnamon roll thing at DB7. I guess it'll depend on whether I want sweet or savory!
Um, I didn't know this was a thing! Yum!
It's delicious!!
I'm 3 pages late, but finally here :) I was so sick in December on our two DHS planned days, so I'm looking forward to a Batuu-do over in April! Your pics are getting me all excited to go back!
Aww that sucks you were sick. I hope your next trip to Batuu makes up for it!!
Great spot for HEA! I haven't tried Columbia Harbor House yet (I don't eat fish) but everything looks so fresh that I may have to go for the chicken
The chicken is good! I also like their mac n cheese!
So glad you posted pics of the standby line - I've only ever ridden single riders, and the standby line is so cool! I didn't realize you got to see the MF from above - awesome!
Ah ok, I have never ridden single rider so didn't know how that queue worked!
Ha! I do love me my August trips, but I also remember thinking my face might actually melt off :faint:

What a jam-packed day, and full of fun and great people! :goodvibes
The sacrifices we make for a Disney vacation!!! :-)
Oh wow, that sounds like an awesome and fun filled day! Even more impressive was that you managed to tackle both DHS and MK in the FL late summer heat.
I had 2nd day energy! I say that 2nd day of vacation is the best day because you still have enough energy and it's usually a full day so you can keep going!
That kid also had her phone interview for her third DCP today too (although I think it will be grad school in the fall and not playing -er I mean working-at Disney for her
It was a really fun night! Love that picture you took! I'm pretty sure we did Mine train a few times :)
I do agree though, the August crowds were way better than January! I'm not sure what is better, heat or crowds.
Ah that's awesome for you DD! I'm sure she will be great in whatever she decides to choose!

That makes sense now. We wanted breakfast at DHS and tried DB7. Now I know why it was a bust.
