Is There Interest in a FW DISMeet in Oct 2021? UPDATE: No But The DISMeet Concept Lives On

Jim, if we set this up I'll run with ya!
You'll have more fun if I bring this one. I don't think I'll be waving at the camera this time.

But back on topic (is that a thing here?). It sounds like a Meet in the Mountains 2021 might be shaping up into an actual thing.

I certainly like the idea of it. (The mountains meetup I mean). I'm not partial to any particular campground. One thing needs to be considered, some of us (not myself or Ed), need plenty of room for our setups so the campground wound not need to be small. Also, we need to consider if they setup for groups. Now, with so many campgrounds available in that area, we might not all stay at same place, but it would certainly be nice.

I know the KOA in Pigeon Forge does groups, but I have no experience staying there. I think I'll make some calls and send some emails over the next few weeks to several of the campgrounds in and around Pigeon Forge and see what I can come up with about what they offer and post back on here about what I find out.

In the meantime, folks can continue giving input.

Creekside is listed as HDT friendly for those of us whom are larger.
River Plantation is also listed as HDT friendly, but looks like it has been purchased by a group that owns campgrouds, so not sure of their status anymore.

I'll be in Pigeon Forge in April for the spring rod run if you need me to check out any campgrounds. I'll be coming in a few days before the start of the car show to visit the national park because once the show starts, traffic slows to a crawl, it can take hours to drive anywhere and walking becomes the fastest method of transportation🚶‍♀️Fun Fact: When I was there last fall a 50's diner was being built that appeared to be exactly like the one in Gulf Shores. That may be a plus for the campers who like to visit the one in Gulf Shores. I think it would probably be open by now.🍔🍔🥯

My husband and I were in Pigeon Forge a few years ago. We stayed at Foothills RV Park ,which was fabulous, but I think too small for our group. The other campground we thought looked very nice was Pine Mountain.

Well, it's a week later from my original post and the question in the title re: a second Fort Wilderness DISMeet has definitely been answered IMO. As in :sad2: . Which is fine by me. And that means this one we DO have scheduled for October will be an all-out event.

The idea of a continuing DISMeet concept, though is still strong. It seems like the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is a popular alternative and more centrally located perhaps than Gulf Shores for some. And there are definitely things to do in the area.

I think I'll update the title of the thread and we can continue the discussion.

Thanks Ed.

Maybe, with this being in Eastern TN it might open more opportunities for some new faces to show.

No sand getting in every crack you have

No seafood

However, PLENTY of places for country meals

And...
520,000 acres of hiking, sight seeing, and more hiking!

Of course, if we do this in the summer it still leaves October open for a FW meet still. So that is not out either.

And you forgot, no yellow flies......

Trade yellow flies for black bears!

If we shoot for another beach trip it would have to be after June. That's when most folks report yellow flies are gone. Poor DW cant take them.

I am with @tiggerdad wife, love gulf shores but must do it after yellow fly season.

Ah! Ed, I think we might have an early idea on the 2022 Dismeet for the summer.

I do still like the idea of Disney in October, the weather is great and crowds aren't as bad. Just harder trying to keep kids involved with school going on. One day I'll be like Ed, or at least that is where I'm trying to get to.

Avid camper
Great cook
Live just a few blocks from Bryant Denny Stadium
Get over 200,000 miles out of a vehicle
and slap a puzzle together without batting an eyelash

I mean, the only way to be better than that if I were trying to be like @TheRustyScupper .

I better quit while I'm ahead...

Whoa now, steady there big fella. Stop that kind of crazy talk. The Rusty Scupper persona is the GOAT. You'll have to create your own legend. <perfect GIF btw>

PS - later in the summer at Gulf Shores in 2022 is okay but we need to determine when the yellow fly season is over by. Also Gulf Shores during the summer months can get ..... moist ....

PPS - I snagged a long weekend this April at Gulf SP (could only get a site on the main road way towards the back but hey - I'm in). April is WONDERFUL and its fall counterpart October is too. But I can make inquiries of the office staff about the extent of yellow fly season.

From what they told me before yellow flies primarily around April, May, and June.

We go frequently in October and August and no yellow flies.

We would for sure be in for trip to the mountains (the beach and yellow flies are overrated) and the summer time is good for us. I'm sure the rest of my caravaning bunch would tag along as well.

As for the tail of the dragon @Teamubr, I want in on you and @tiggerdad little bet... there's a new outlaw in town...
20200224_151946.jpg bye bye Mr. Chevy, Hello Mr. Ford
