When will WDW and DL/CA shut down?

You clearly don't understand they were not FORCED to close down any of the parks and certainly not Tokyo. They most certainly can be forced to and you are ignorant if you think they cannot be.

I'll sum this up as easily as I can for you, leaving common sense out:

China is a communist country.
The United States of America is a democracy.
The government in the United States of America isn't going to force any business to shut down.

Ok sure the FL National Guard COULD force a closure

but that ain’t gonna happen. I’m not sure a polio outbreak in Orlando would cause that

IMO it would take emergency declarations and government recommendations for Disney to shutter the US parks. Seems as if it would be quite a stretch to get to that point. If, if it came down to that it seems more likely than not that Disney would, very loudly, proclaim closures, no doubt with much talk of an "abundance of caution". IMO in order to reach that scenario the confined flying petri dishes of commercial airline travel would be grounded first.

Yes China deserves the world's thanks and praise for slowing down the spread of this virus. Comparisons to the flu are just ignorant as we have a vaccine for the flu.

Along with the thanks and praise they deserve for ignoring and covering up information about it until the cat clawed its way completely out of the bag. Wouldn't want to neglect giving China all the accolades deserved.

You clearly don't understand the difference between DL and especially WDW, and every other Disney park in the world. They can't be forced to do anything. This isn't China.

i don't know the specific laws for the states of california or florida but i'm fairly certain that in a declared state of emergency any private business can be forced to close. for that matter even a local municipality can force a business closure if they determine a health risk exists.

not saying it will happen, but we are under state of emergency and our governor announced yesterday a plan that just asks at this point that large events, gatherings of people be cancelled but made a point of saying it could become a formal decree. if outbreaks continue here it's conceivable that attractions and venues could be involuntarily closed.

Does anyone know, with all these overseas park closures, are the cast members still receiving pay? My thoughts are maybe the hourly cast are not, but perhaps the salaried are? Just curious if anyone knows?

With all Japan has invested into the Olympics they were gonna sit on their hands if Tokyo DL decided they would rather remain open instead of take the bottom line hit.

I changed my original statement. The government isn't going to force WDW to close down. It would cause a completely unnecessary panic. Did WDW close during swine flu, SARS, or bird flu outbreaks?

Actually, the government DOES have the power to close down a private gathering enterprise for health reasons. Last time it was done was during the 40's I think. I would be reading the state of FL announcement of a public health emergency (same for CA) to see what the powers are of that declaration to be sure.

I mentioned above, I changed my wording. They won't force any closings. This is a very different world we live in. In the 40's, there was no social media to cause complete panic and chaos. To close down WDW would cause unnecessary panic.

In case you missed the news, the only reason we even have the virus in the first place is BECAUSE of China. I mean, just for future reference. I do agree that comparing the flu to COVID-19 is complete ignorance right now.

I don't think so. There are far more cases of the flu than COVID-19. In the US this season, it is estimated that 27,000 people have died from the flu. 6 people have died from COVID-19.

You might want to change the wording in post 21 as well then:).

We have accurate numbers for the flu because it can be easily tested, and has so for years, unlike this new virus which has, so far, had tests that don't work. The numbers we have for coronavirus are significantly deflated as many deaths were logged as "pneumonia". Even in Florida. Drs. and even patients have to get permission from the Health Dept. to test for this new virus. Where in the country do you have that to test for flu? Nowhere. Any tending physician or NP quickly runs a flu test on the spot.
