Just curious. Why do you think they would have more recovery passes than usual? I believe they made it through the regular BG’s so there would not have been any for them. I believe everyone who got called and was in line got to ride. Do you think they gave them out to people with downtime during the day but couldn’t come back? Or do you think they gave them to backups that didn’t get called?

I know they give it to people that complain at the end of the night that had backups and couldn't go and people who had regular bg and couldn't come back, this has happened before and it is at the discretion of the CM.
Just to make clear I'm not saying everyone the had a bg and couldn't ride gets recovery but I do know people have gotten it in the past

Sometimes people who are on the ride/in line when it breaks down get return passes, too. If for some reason they aren't ever able to get a perfect ride, they might be given a pass for another day.

I have been practicing each day and it has worked fine till today. It says right now that the ride is Open but Join Boarding Group is greyed out. I closed out of the app, click on it, see the castle, find out more, and it's still says open now boarding groups 10-18. Do I need to delete the app?

The only way to get a boarding group is to use the app after being scanned into the park and right at park opening time.

No, BGs are distributed when the park opens.

All BGs are gone for today, so you cannot practice anymore.

I'm not sure what else you are expecting at this point? The boarding groups are usually gone well before this point, so "Join Boarding Group" will be greyed out. This morning there were gone within a couple minutes of park opening.

I had the same status at 8:00 this morning. I thought it would change after 8:02.

Just to make this totally clear--and, btw, this is all detailed in the first 2 posts on this thread:
(1) You and everyone in your party has to be tapped into the park in order to be eligible to join a BG.
(2) Get to the park before the official park opening time. If you arrive at the park at 7:50 and expect to get through bag check and the tapstiles by 8, think again.
(3) If you want to rope-drop a ride (not RotR, which does NOT have standby), then get to the park even earlier because the queues for standby are enormous these days.
(4) So, there you are, tapped in (and everyone who wants to ride RotR also tapped in) and waiting. At the official park opening time (whenever that is--8 or 9 or whatever it is the day you're there), that's when you try for your BG. You can open your MDE app a little before park opening--but not way before--to be ready to hit "Find Out More" but don't hit Find Out More until at least 1 second after official park opening time. 3 seconds seems to be an often-used system that works.
(5) Everyone in your group who's going to go should have MDE on their phone and everyone should try--not individually but for everyone in the group. If everyone in your group isn't linked in everyone's MDE account, then either have everyone log in to the same account--the one where everyone IS linked--or link all the people in your group ahead of time. Once one person gets it for everyone in the group, everyone else will be blocked, since they will already have a BG.

My understanding is that they are not giving group 1 to the first person, 2 to the second and so on. It is a random assigning of groups. The first person in could get a high group and the last person in could get a lower group.

I’ve read that it’s not random, but they go so quickly it seems random. People have explained that what bg you get depends on what boarding group number the server you happen to connect to is giving out.

This could be tested on a day when bg’s last a long time after park open by waiting 15mn or so for the quick distribution to slow to a trickle, then book and cancel and rebook to see what numbers you get. But probably no one wants to do this- too high of a risk of ending up with no bg at all. I don’t think we’ll see any days like that til after Easter anyways.

Before following the boarding group process, I was firmly a believer in the notion that crowd calendars are unnecessary and having a good plan was the key to having a great day.

To an extent that’s still true, but if RotR is your reason for visiting HS, even the best plan can’t get you on the ride if your phone glitches on a morning like today. Being shut out at 8:01 is harsh because there is absolutely nothing you can do to ride.

Hopefully the crowds will be more manageable by my trip mid May.

I hate reading too much into things since we ultimately don’t know if the guest count in each BG is always static... but painfully slow BG progression today it seems. Up to 34 at 12:43pm.

Kudos to them for taking that risk in the name of "science" for the team!

The speed at which BGs are being fully distributed would seem to indicate that virus worries are having zero impact on crowds this week. We'll be there next week. I'll report back about our BG experience, etc.

If it doesn't change within a couple seconds of open, it probably isn't. You should completely close the app (force close) and start it again.

Best results seem to be to NOT go to the "Join Boarding Group" page and wait for it to turn red, but to only open the app, wait for park open + 1-2 seconds, then click on "Find Out More".

If you're saying that the "Current Land Status" says "Open" and the Join Boarding Group is greyed out, it's possible that you were attempting to get a BG after all of them had been distributed. You need to read the fine print to see if the first sentence said "We've reached capacity for the attraction,...."

Once it says "Now Boarding" "Groups 10-18", that means the ride is now fully open and those that got a BG within that range can now return to the ride. I think you (a) did not get a red button the first time and (b) by the time you "force closed" the app and reopened it at 8:02, all BGs had been distributed. I don't think you need to delete the app.

How do you work around your other fp+ and reservations? On our DHS day, we're doing Savi's and we have dinner reservations, plus we'll have our normal fp+. What happens if there's a conflict when (if?) our boarding group is called?

We were just at the riviera- one morning we took the sky liner bc we weren’t trying to rope drop anything. Got on the skyliner right at 730 and it was super fast smooth ride. In the park by 747. But again, we were not trying to rope drop anything. We were just there to get a BG.

That's all I'm trying to do, get a BG! I don't care so much about being first in line for anything right now. I looooooooooooooove the Skyliner too! I'd much prefer to take that vs having to wait for a bus around 6:30am. What time did you get in line?
