Asia Disney Parks closed due to Coronavirus (SHDL, HKDL, TDL)

2 teams of 12, 3-5 coaches per team, 4 refs...and then the camera, broadcast, stadium, and security crew (all at barebones levels)...with everyone, other than the teams, spread WAAAY the heck out...and cops probably enforcing the closure outside...probably 100-150 total people tops...

Broadcast coverage keeping panic levels down...probably decided the trade-offs were still worth it...
The idiotic part about it is everyone who was supposed to be at the games will instead pack into their local sports bar and watch the games there. How is that preventing *anything*? I know I've been harping on this, but the lack of critical thinking from everyone is unbelievable.

You’re right. People who would go to sports bars to watch lack critical thinking.

With the IndyCar race at St. Pete this weekend and the NASCAR season well underway, I think they're next up on suspend/no-fan list.
I can see no fans...and pit crews in full on protective medical gear. Thing is, with NASCAR drivers in their own cars, this sport could actually run to entertain the masses on tv...

I'm surprised they haven't announced anything yet. Full med gear for crews won't work and is unnecessary.

Indycar should be more on top of it imo. Several years back one of the drivers got the measles so all the crew guys that were at the track for all teams had to either get a new shot or bring in their shot records. Fun day at work for that one but all our guys had records even if their mom's had to dig it up 😁

Plus some owners/race team people are over or well over 60 so you'd think that would speed things up. I'm sure all the owners are talking too. Trucks would have rolled today, maybe yesterday. They have to cone out with an announcement today I would think and some fans will have already traveled...

I’ve been looking at maps of US cases. At this point it’s pretty easy to notice sparsely populated states have no cases. So keeping our distance from others sounds like the right idea.

My school district has gone to NTI beginning Monday. Teachers will have to report.
Oh, don't kid yourself, it's everywhere. But no one is being tested, so the numbers look artificially low.

For the majority of people, *if* they even get the virus, it will be very mild. The economic impact has a much more serious reach and repercussions.

I really hope you don't have anyone close to you affected by this. Real people are getting sick and dying, and it's not just old people.

The economy will recover. Its apparently the "strongest economy in the world", right?

Goodness, you're funny. :rolleyes2

Having the ability to be a critical thinker is a great asset, especially in times like these when those who are supposed to be making decisions aren't and most of what we get is fear-mongering.

Re-read what I said, please. No, we don't have the strongest economy in the world, no matter what people are trying to tell us.

the people lacking critical thinking skills are the ones who don’t understand geometric growth and the potential effects of a small percentage death rate applied to a large population in a short time.

True, but it is hard. You (one) looks for ways to overcome any given problem. Like, I assume our schools (UK) will close very soon. It is second nature to me to offer to have people's kids here if they need to be at work. That would be kind. BUT, it would also be unbelievably stupid, creating exactly the kind of environment shutting schools is meant to eliminate. it's hard to change the mindset though, and refuse to do a kind thing because it is safer.

I strongly dislike when people say things like this, almost like a threat for later, you get to say "I told you so".
Nobody knows anything about what goes in our in personal lives. How we are preparing, what we are worried about, how we cope.

I'm extremely worried about my parents. They are 81. So I hope we don't go the route of Italy. I hope we can keep it contained. I hope we recover economically and I hope all these things we are doing do turn out to be an overreaction in the end.

I find no glee in telling people they are going to die and how bad things "can" get.

Critical thinking skills - don't go out as much (like gathering in huge numbers at bars), stay distances from people, even if you think you only have a cold, stay home.
We've done our shopping, we don't play to go out to dinner for a while and just generally laying low for a while.

One way I am preparing for Covid-19. My wife wants me to shave my facial hair as i tend to scratch my goatee from time to time. Not arguing with her nor really getting into prep or anything but i figured I would add some levity. Im glad I dont have any major facial hair like some people.

No worries, threats like that don't bother me at all, since they're meaningless. :)

People die, every single day, from things far more dangerous and in FAR greater numbers.

Fear-mongering isn't helping and all it is doing is stoking the hysteria.

I strongly dislike when people make sweeping general statements like "it's a mild illness for most people" and "most people will be fine" as though that means no one should be worried about it or make any meaningful changes to their own behavior.

Those statements cause people to relax TOO much and at this point we have seen how that can end up.

That's what happened in Italy...so they shut those down, too...only took 24 hours...

I don't see what DLgal said as a threat. I understand that is Farro's opinion and they are entitled to it.
