Do you think DVC should be a little more open to people moving dates without penalty because of corona?

Instead of "honorable," you really mean "flexible," don't you? The renter in this case is asking not to honor the contract the renter signed (no refunds, no cancellations); the owner is honoring the terms of the contract. I agree it would be ideal if this owner would be flexible and try to reschedule the reservation. However, I think it's unfair to say the owner is not honorable.

To add, it’s one of the reasons that owners use a broker, and take less for the rental, It is sk once the points are rented, other than for adding DDP or ME, they don’t have to worry about anything else,

Doesn’t David’s keep 30% until you check in? Would they give you that at least?
The owner has a contract with David's. The money belongs to the owner who took the points that they purchased and pay MF's on out of their own personal inventory and have to pay income tax as well - not a big "profit" by any means. Most owners only rent when they have excess points, often expiring. Renting is a great option but has obvious risks for the renter. People buy DVC so they have control of their own points and don't have this risk. If renters are averse to risk they should make reservations through Disney so they can cancel and get a refund. Last year, I had renters arriving the same day as a hurricane and I called the broker to see if there was anything I could do but apparently the folks arrived. That being said, there was a limit to what I could do regardless of how bad I felt for the renters. I rented points today for a family arriving in January who are obviously aware of what is going on...if this crisis is still happening do you think I should refund all or part of their rental? Risk happens (look at your 401K), it's unfortunate but it is a decision made by the renter and IMO the owner shouldn't be vilified.

I just went online after seeing the email from DVC that points would NOT go into holding, and tried to cancel my reservation for April 6.

The site itself still claims if I cancel my points will go into holding, so I didn't pull the trigger on the cancellation. Would like to see some independent confirmation that I'll be able to cancel without penalty online, otherwise I'll wait a few days for the rush to die down and call MS to do it.

Edit: Maybe they're only allowing penalty-free cancellations through end of march which is the current closure time? (I expect that closure will be extended, so I may just have to wait a bit)

Anyone know what happens with expiring points? They are transferred non bankable points that expire May 31. And I know I don’t be able to travel in April or May. Anyone have issues with expiration end of March?

I just got off the phone with member services. Lulu was awesome!

The estimated wait time on hold was 75 minutes. I got through after 60 minutes on hold. I spoke with her for about 10 minutes and all the points were immediately refunded back to 2019 UY with none in holding. She then had to put me on hold for about 40-45 more minutes to get points "un-borrowed" and work out whether they would refund 7 OTUP or keep them in the account. During that time, she checked in with me to make sure I knew she was still working on it.

At the end of the call, all of the points are were they need to be. This is a huge silver lining. I was prepared to lose anywhere from 42 to 262 points!

Sincd you said these are transferred but not eligible for banking, I am assuming you banked them already.

They have not allowed any banked points to be banked again. So, it sounds like your points would need to still be used by May 31st.

How about if I borrowed my Oct 2020 points? Will they go back to that use year?

The standard message about going into holding appeared at the bottom of my reservation change window, but when I actually checked my balances after the change, the points were not in holding.

Just want to put it out there that Aulani is currently open, Hawaii schools are on Spring Break next week, and people are buzzing about taking a staycation since their Disneyland trips have been canceled. There are people on this forum and others (that shall not be named) with people looking for Aulani reservations.

Some other ideas on how to target this pool of renters - maybe join a Hawaii FB buy and sell group? Maybe Dave's has a database of past Hawaii renters they can email? There are a lot of Hawaii-based, Disney-oriented influencer on Instagram that you could work with?

I realize that as a Hawaii resident who could possibly benefit from an influx of Aulani points being rented, I realize this post sounds very opportunistic (although I already booked my stay months ago). But I thought I would share anyway because it sounds like there are people in a use-or-lose situation who don't know what to do. And losing your points benefits no one.

Got through this afternoon. Was scheduled to arrive April 6. They canceled and unborrowed the points, putting them back in 2020, and we were able to immediately book a future trip. Major kudos to DVC for working with everyone.

Thank you!! This is exactly what I needed an answer for!

I'm a member that rented a reservation booked for end of March. I found out yesterday that the use year is March and points are expiring. Anyone else in the same boat and heard anything? My reservation is for GCV so there isn't a way we can go. Bought this reservation end of February without insurance. I am surprised to hear other rental companies insurance would be covering this.

If the points are March UY, they expire in February, the last day of.

Has anybody canceled an Aulani reservation today that was scheduled in the next few weeks ? Were those points put in holding or returned to your current use year? I know Aulani is up and running, but this is definitely not a normal travel situation this week. I'm probably going to cancel my trip next week and really don't want to lose over 300 points.

Gcv is actually closing, so I bet they’ll bank your points for you - as long as they weren’t already banked from the previous year ... and even then they might, since they will be closed during your reservation.

I must have misspoke they told me they expire at the end of March. I don't think too much about use year as we use our points for Aulani and only go every couple years. sorry :)
