Has anyone ever seen the movie
“The Sound Of Music”? with Julie Andrews. I only seen part 1... why don’t people like it? It’s a good movie and I love all of the songs my favorite is “16 going on 17” and many others. Let me know your opinion on it other than the movie is too long or the songs are annoying. When I watched Part 1 I already repeatedly in my head sang all of the words so there’s nothing wrong with the songs at least to me. I’m planning on rewatching it all over again from the beginning to end. Let me know your opinion on “The Sound Of Music” Do you like it, yes or no? Why or why not?

I guess it's okay but I think it's overdone by high schools and other theater groups. There are so many good musicals out there but this one has been done to death.

I love the movie, the stage show and the songs. Definitely a film that should be seen on the big screen.

I’ve actually been to a Sound of Music singalong at the Ordway Music Theatre in St. Paul, MN. Quite fun.
People have a hard time with the length of the film, and Musicals in general are not popular. Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang also came from the same era. These are just dated films, also to note they are all period pieces..( I still love them..)

Incidentally, my favorite film of all time (not a musical) is Lawrence of Arabia. I remember borrowing my DVD widescreen anniversary box set (2 DVD’s as it is really long) to a young coworker. He was probably 20. He took it home and his whole family watched and really loved it. So, someone over 50 can sometimes share something like that with a younger generation. Just like you can do with Sound of Music for someone!

Many people like it. It's initial release was four and a half years. Imagine that; in theaters for 147 weeks. Adjusted for inflation, the film as earned $2.3 billion making it the third highest grossing film in history. That's an estimated 142 million tickets sold. To put that in perspective "Avengers: Endgame" sold 93 Million tickets and "Mary Poppins" (released one year earlier) has sold appx. 78 million tickets.

Once a year here in Los Angeles it is played at the Hollywood Bowl for a "sing-a-long" and always sells out - that's 17,500 seats.

I'm a little surprised that you think people don't like it.

I like it. I've seen in in the theater more than 25 times.

It’s not that I don’t think that people don’t like it but it’s the fact that I’ve heard people say that they don’t like it and it surprises me that they don’t like it and that they find it annoying and way too long to watch over and over again. I feel like I’m the only one who does like it and I’m surrounded by people who don’t like it and don’t feel like rewatching it.

Definitely you need to go to a singalong then. Everyone at one of those has a great time!

I see. It seems I misunderstood you. You might be the only person you know who likes it. People have different tastes in movies. A lot of people love the movie.

Awesome! I may just do that. Maybe I’ll finally be around the same people who enjoys “The Sound of Music” as well. I’ll look it up. Thanks!

My wife loves the movie, we have it on our home streaming system. She probably watches it 3-4 times a year, usually Christmas and other times when she wants a pick me up. I think the movie itself is a monumental story, the filming and locations are amazing. I'm just not into musicals. We have the sing along version too, and when she's baking around Christmas its on and she's having fun singing along, but she doesn't need the sing along version for that! For us it's a family thing at least once a year we watch it even with our 21+ age boys, same goes for Wizard of Oz, it's a traditional Thanksgiving Weekend movie.

Is the Disney Sing Along a place? I’ve heard and have the Disney Sing Along movies on VHS but never thought it was a place to go.

Same age as me and they watch it too. That’s great to hear that I’m not the only 21 year old who likes to watch “The Sound of Music” lol 😂

You are definalty not the only one, though I suspect a lot are to "cool" to admit it. Our oldest, who's 25, probably doesn't love it but he supports his mom. Our youngest is very much into musicals. Which is great for me, since I don't have to go to them LOL

No, Disney Sing Along isn't a place, it's a series on home video (from VHS to laserdisc to DVD) that is a collection of songs from Disney movies with the lyrics of the song on the screen.

The sing-a-longs rkstocke and I are talking about are events some theaters host where people go into a theater. The lyrics are displayed on the screen during the songs and everyone in the theater is encouraged to sing a long. As I mentioned, in my town the 17,500 seat Hollywood Bowl does this once a year - often with stars from the movie in attendance. The Disney owned El Capitan Theater in Hollywood does sing-a-longs with lots of Disney movies. They are great fun!

Okay, thanks I misunderstood them.

Sound of Music is VERY popular or else they wouldn’t still show it on network TV every year. The only other movies that I can think of that are still broadcast on network television are It’s A Wonderful Life and The Ten Commandments.

It has great music but the tonal shift toward the end is a bit jarring. I still love it though.

It is my favorite movie!

I would love for there to be a sing a long here in my area.
