French Quarter to the Fantasy...7 Nights in the Eastern Caribbean, April 2019! Completed June 7, 2020!

ANIMATORS UNPALATABLE
Yikes! This ain't gonna be good

Allie didn't like anything on the regular menu either,
and ended up ordering off the kid's menu as well.
Behold,

Wow, that certainly looks like no painting I ever want to be a part of

And since this seems to be the theme of this dinner,
my mom didn't like anything on the menu either and just ordered a salad...
That must have been some menu

When we sat down for dinner, we were handed a paper to draw on and some markers.
Eventually our servers collected them and during dessert,
our drawings came to life on the screens all around us!
Oh how cool! I hadn't seen this before.

but it had been a long day and my mom and I went back to our stateroom to relax,
but someone beat us to it.

DO-NOTHING DAY

This was our first full day and we were at sea.
I find these days to be the perfect, "do nothing days"…as you'll see from this next installment…
eat…lay around…eat…do something that I don't remember because there are no pictures…eat…
you get the idea.
These days are nice in small doses.

I was the first one up so I got ready quietly and headed up to the Cove Cafe.
I had heard so much about this place and for some reason had never tried it on any of the other ships.
I was excited to try these great coffees for the first time.
However, I am not a fancy Coffee-person, I usually brew my own coffee at home,
and when I got up there I had no idea what to order.
I kind of looked at the menu and was still perplexed
until a woman came up next to me and I started chatting with her.
She ended up giving me advice about what to order and I took it.
I don't even remember what I ordered, but it was very pretty..

I just didn't like it very much at all.

This ended up being my first and last trip to the Cove Cafe,
as I stuck to the regular coffee up on deck from then on.
I'm glad I tried it though, it just wasn't for me.

I took my coffee and was lucky enough to grab one of my favorite,
round lounge chairs with my book to sit and enjoy it.
The sun had already come up, but it was still so pretty...

Here's what the chairs look like without me in it.
This became one of my favorite places on the Fantasy

A little while later I got a text from Nicholas…a teen that wakes up early…a strange phenomenon, I know. He's been that way since he was a baby.
We texted that we would meet in Cabanas for some breakfast so I headed over there.

On the Wonder last year, I fell in love with the Greek Yogurt bar they had out every morning.
I was really looking forward to that on the Fantasy, but they never put out the yogurt,
which was disappointing. Instead, they had pre-made little yogurt parfaits that didn't interest me,
but because they had those, I knew they had Greek yogurt somewhere. I ended up asking at one of the counters for a scoop of yogurt and they were happy to oblige.
I ended up doing this most every morning of the cruise.
I would then take my bowl of yogurt over to the fixings and make my own concoction...

I didn't get a very good picture of it, but Nicholas' breakfast consisted bacon and pastries...

On the way back to the stateroom, I took a photo of this picture.
There's a hidden surprisein the picture…do you see them?

We went back to the room and met up with my mom and Allie.
The kids headed off somewhere and my mom and I headed up to the adult pool...

All that relaxing must've made us hungry because for lunch we headed back to Cabanas...

I think that little square thing was polenta but it wasn't very good.

I love these little bite sized desserts.
Sometimes I just want a little taste of something but not a whole big dessert...

We went back to the pool for some more relaxing after lunch
and pretty much that was all we did until we had to get ready for dinner!
See what I mean by a , "do-nothing day?!"

Our dinner that night was in my favorite DCL restaurant…Animator's Palate! That's up next!

Where was that chair? I have never seen it!

Ooooohhhh, that's smart. I was browsing the FL Tours site and the timing on post-cruise gave me some anxiety (having to be out there at a certain time). I like the idea of just using the bus to get back to the airport!

I like taking a car there because then we get to pick the time and we also get a stop for some wine on the way to the port. But it is kind of nice just getting on the bus back to the airport…hang on to that Disney magic a little longer

APRIL 11, 2019
MOSTLY CABANAS

I loved how the days were spaced out on this cruise.
After two port days and days spent in the sun,
it was kind of nice to have a relaxing day before we spent our very last day at Castaway Cay.
And because we had enough sun the last couple days, we tried to avoid it today.

We took the opportunity to take some pics with the ship's mascot,

and then went and booked our placeholder for our next cruise.
489111

I actually used our placeholder to make a cruise reservation for Mike and I in February 2021
but then they announced that would be a Star Wars Day at Sea cruise
so I moved it to March 2021.
Well, for various reasons, I doubt we'll be taking that cruise now :sad1:
First, since we cancelled our trip this March,
we're already thinking about how we want to use our DVC points
and it looks like we'll be going to WDW in April 2021on the kid's spring break.
Also, I think I mentioned this, but I am a nurse in a children's hospital
and strangely we have been super slow due to this stupid pandemic.
I'm not complaining about that…this just doesn't seem to be affecting kids as much.
But for the last few years, I've been picking up all kinds of extra shifts
and doing overtime and that's just not happening right now so money is a factor.
The DVC points are paid for already,
but it would not be wise for us to spend this much on a cruise at this point.
But someday I really want to go on the Fantasy with Mike because I think he'd really love it.

For lunch, we went back to Cabanas and I laughed when I saw this...
489115

I have never seen a Mexican pizza before and had no desire to try it,
but kudos to them for their creativity :P

Here are some of the other offerings...

And then later on, an empty Cabanas...

Can you tell that I love it in there?

Next up is our dinner at Enchanted Garden.

I loved how the days were spaced out on this cruise.

I wonder if it's deliberately planned that way, or if it's just because of the way they sail?

Your mom is not the mascot!!!!
and then went and booked our placeholder for our next cruise.
Thanks for posting that. I got a lot of info from reading that.

Well... poop. But totally understand.

Tortilla chips stuck in it??? Really???
Can you tell that I love it in there?
::yes::

I wonder if it's deliberately planned that way, or if it's just because of the way they sail?

I'm sure part of it has to do with avoiding the Dream and maybe, at times, the Magic and Wonder at Castaway Cay. But it seems to work out nicely for this itinerary :thumbsup2

Your mom is not the mascot!!!!

You didn't know??

You'd think they'd let their mascot sail for free, wouldn't you?? :rotfl:

I had to enlarge the pizza picture to figure out what the heck was on that thing. Taco chips, funny!

Oddest thing ever! :P

Sorry you most likely won't get to cruise next year but it does make sense. :(

Cabanas sounds like a place I'd spend a lot of time lol. That Mexican pizza is really odd!

When you own your own island, I guess you can decide how many ships you want in port. :)

Ok, Kelly, I found your TR again. LOL!!!
This cruise looks amazing and I love the days when all you did was eat and lay around because that's what I love about a vacation...eating and resting.
However, your excursions did seem like a lot of fun!

she seems to get turned around,

Me too, I blame it on being dyslexic.

I did get a cocktail for the party...
453964

That looks really good. The one time I bought a drink of the day, it was not good. I wish I could remember the name but it was a yellow drink...

we all went off to check out VIBE.

Love the Vibe, too bad our child has out-aged it.

pics outside VIBE...

This is awesome. We have only visited the Vibe on the Wonder. This looks much nicer.

I think this area is so cool for teens, I know mine loved it and spent a LOT of time up here!

Ahh, you and your mom are so cute.

Yea, I am way behind in my trip report readings but with working from home I now have more time to read trip reports. Will make more comments later as I read through your report. Thanks for reporting!

Really enjoying your report! I am thinking about taking this exact trip in August '21 and your pictures look amazing!! Hopefully all this will have settled down by then.

I did have a few questions though:

1. What book were you reading? It looked like it was a Disney book towards the beginning of the report during some early morning coffee runs on the top decks. I'm far from a Disney expert, so I do enjoy learning more about anything with Disney

2. Do you have to alert the wait staff or the restaurant that you won't be at dinner? Like you, we probably won't do it every night. I don't remember having to do that on the Wonder, but that was years ago.

3. The excursion in St. Thomas looks awesome! I was just wondering what excursion it was and if you did it through Disney or another third party?

Thanks again and look forward to future posts!

I'm embarrassed to say I'm just finding this :rolleyes1 but I did read the whole thing yesterday and today! Having missed out on our cruise earlier this month it's fun to read about yours and it's also fun since I was on the Fantasy! I do have to say I'm surprised you like Cabanas so much! I didn't really like our lunch there but I was kind of over buffets at the time lol, under other circumstances I may have liked it better.

I hope something changes and you get to go next March!!!
