What is a trap house? Ugh.

Okay--I googled it. I don't have a clue what's going on but it's not good. I do have really good neighobors who are always out and about so during the day I feel safe.

I'm looking at a Ring Doorbell and either one spotlight cam and a floodlight cam or two floodlight cams. My ex can install. I did find a simplisafe offer on Amex. I'm thinking I'm okay without in house security--just want cameras for now.

And I told my 13-year old lap dog we needed a German Sheppard and she was not amused:)
Oh and one other cool thing is you can trigger the alarm to sound on the floodlight and spotlight cams. So I like that for prevention if I see something suspicious. Also, the floodlight cam is VERY bright.

Our ring cameras have caught, guess who, the postwoman stealing a package. 😳

Here's what I've been up to under Stay at Home.... besides working a bunch still

I made a new friend!

This kitty moved into our barn. It took about a week going from her running on sight to crawling in my lap
so cute! I'm going to visit the barn of a friend (of a friend) to choose my new kitten from their litter this weekend! So excited.... I love that calico cat face!

4 seats in business, 20 in coach per this proposal to keep airline seats "distant" during the pandemic. I wonder if this will effectively kill award seats? That is a reduction of capacity by 67%!

Sort of makes you wonder if moving to cash rewards right now really is a smart play. I was sort of flippant about that six weeks ago, because cash is always good - but now it may be something to more seriously consider. Of course, flexible currencies allow holders to "buy" seats, so UR and MR are good too. I'm not sure it is smart to invest a lot of time in stockpiling straight United or American miles right now tho...

I think it will depend on demand too which is an unknown.

Meant to share something about this here yesterday and forgot.

My 24 year old nephew flew from Denver to Richmond last weekend. I expected him to be kind of flippant about the whole situation, but when I saw him (from a 6 feet distance) the other day, he informed me that it was one of the worst experiences of his life and he deeply regretted it and was now dreading having to fly back. He flew United and said they made absolutely no efforts at all to social distance people. 212 of the 214 seats on the plane were sold. He said that they did hand out masks to everyone, but people were complaining and yelling at the flight attendants the whole flight and it was miserable. To add to the joy, he said that it was one of the most turbulent flights he's ever been on and people kept removing their masks because they thought they were going to get sick. I'm not sure if he's on United on the flight home next Tuesday as well, but he's not looking forward to it.

Looking for some "what card next" advice.

DH did a CIP in the very beginning of March....msr met.
I got a CIP in the end of April, right before they changed stuff. msr is nearly met, still have a month and a half left.

Wondering about trying for another CIP for DH, but not sure I want to deal with everything that might go along with that since he is a sole prop. He despises annual fees. I didn't tell him about the one with the CIP since it pays for itself with the point multiplier for travel. Airline cards aren't really "worth it" for us since we rarely fly. We both have regular freedom cards (i'm pretty sure that's what they are....might be freedom unlimited??) that we originally got about 15 years ago (one to build credit because i was fresh out of school, and the other for DH to beef up his credit score) but we added each other as AUs on those, so idk if we can get another one?

ALSO. I have a flight layover/connection time question since there are so many seasoned air travelers in here. We rescheduled our anniversary trip to the end of August. We will be traveling with an infant and gate-checking a stroller. Our options (not leaving early in the morning) are either a 2+hour layover in ATL, or 45ish MINUTE layovers/connections in ATL or Charlotte or Chicago Midway. Is 45-50 minutes cutting it too close especially since we would have to potentially wait for the stroller?

The way to look at connections is to know they can't sell a flight without a legal connection so however short it is you can make it under average circumstances. That being said, with having to wait for a stroller I'd skip ATL because it's so busy if you land a few minites late and just have to get off the plane adding the stroller makes it worse. With kids I'd want at least an hour there. The other two aren't as bad because they are smaller airports. I've never connected in CLT but it was my home airport for 6 years and it was never as busy as ATL. If look at the airport maps and see what terminals your airline uses and figure out if you could make it from the two furtherst apart in the time given with all you need to do. You aren't likely yo be at those two gates but that's how I'd plan for amy airport.

Yes! I actually happened to read that article the day before I found out he'd flown back. He said that the airport wasn't bad at all and everyone was doing a good job of social distancing there. He said he got through TSA at Denver in 10 minutes.

For the record, I did ask him what on earth he was thinking even getting on a plane right now. He said he thought he was timing it right to be the safest time to fly (all things considered) because we weren't in a second wave yet and the airlines were taking stringent measures to sanitize and social distance. He said once he actually got to the gate and saw all the people there, he realized what a terrible mistake it was.

So hard to tell what to do with Chase business cards right now..DH could try for the CIP or .the CIU and CIC don’t have annual fees. The CIU has support links in our reddit group but unfortunately new ones can’t be generated
as far as the freedoms..You could each apply for whichever one you don’t have...the CF or CFU....if you don’t have the CFU those also have support links and new ones can be generated.
Do either of you have a CSR or CSP...if not those are other Chase personal cards to consider...they do have annual fees...

I would definitely go for the 2 hour layover if you have a kid and need to gate-check anything. ATL is main our connection airport for our flights and when I book a 45 minute layover there, it means I know I'll be running to the next flight. I've actually had to skip the train going between different gates because it's faster to just run there on that short of a layover.

The Atlanta-effect is my biggest concern. Off to look at maps.

We do not have any of the sapphire cards. We would be using a support link from the group if we went for a CIP, because they had removed them before my online account was up and running and self-support is probably extra-dicey right now.

The other thing I forgot to mention is when your connection ia close to or at the minimum for a legal connection any fligjt change on either leg of a couple minutes can give you an invalid connection and stuck with a longer layover that may be longer than you want. I've had it happen in ATL but DL had a lot of flights to MCO. But one trip I think my connecting flight was changed 2 times because the connection became invalid but it became valid again so I got them to change it back. So you really need to watch your flight times for changes.

I tend to avoid layovers of less than an hour where possible, especially if I'm traveling with kids. I would rather have time for all of us to take a bathroom break in a regular sized bathroom, than have to deal with changing diapers in an airplane lavatory.
Yes, it can be annoying to sit in an airport for 2 hours with a small child, but I would rather plan for that, than miss the connection and end up stuck waiting for who knows how long.

When I'm traveling alone, I might risk it, because I know my own bladder, but with the kids I tend to give myself extra time.

And THIS is why I figured I needed to ask. *sigh* There can be no running with a bab

I've had to fast walk it but you pretty much have time to get to the next flight while it's boarding if they are far apart. Used the bathroom on the plane while people werr still boarding but I also had early boarding or econ + but was after family boarding. If you got lucky with the gate next to you but if you are going from a bigger plane to more of a regional jet or smaller than your original you'll probably be in dif terminals but I've obly flown on DL through ATL other airlines have a smaller footprint there.

The reports on reddit indicate self support points are not posting now :(

You could have DH try for the CIP and if not approved, then apply for a personal card at least a day later

Honestly, two hours in ATL really isn't that bad, especially if you're having to change terminals. By the time you deplane, bathroom break, change terminals, grab a quick bite to eat, it'll about be time to get on your next flight.

This. 2 hours is my target layover most of the time. If it was 3+ hours vs less than an hour, then I'd be more conflicted. But, 2 hours is the perfect amount of time to get all the necessary layover stuff done with minimal sitting around waiting for a plane time. IF there are delays, then I can focus on being more efficient during the layover, but it usually doesn't get to the point where I feel super hurried.
