Just did the HSBC Slickdeals deal--took about 10 minutes.

I just did it too! I went to the link yesterday and got a message that link was no longer valid, so I thought I was too late. Thanks to your post, I went back this morning and applied. It said it was pending until verification of the trial deposits being sent to the account I linked to my application.

I'm thinking about setting a Slickdeals account up for DH and doing one for him too. I might wait a few days and make sure mine gets fully approved first though.

Edited to add: Do you know if these bonuses are taxed? I've never applied for an account that received the bonus through paypal.

Me?

Annoying that people are saying that about masks. I think it's nice to protect others.

I think it was you. It's possible I just remember your SN from something else. (Oh to go back to 2009, when we could stay in a Deluxe resort for less than $200/night and Disney gave people extra incentives to get APs!)

The mask thing was really irritating. I think she was mostly annoyed, because of the PPE shortage (although there's no indication that it hit our area particularly hard) and she was a nurse, so she took personal offense. But, we have a newborn baby. I don't have the energy or mental wherewithal to sit down and make fabric masks for all of us right now. On top of that, he was starting a NEW job a month after all the COVID restrictions were put into place. He was just using what he had on hand. He didn't steal one out of a nurse's hand as she was getting ready to go tend to a COVID patient...

I'm trying to figure out how to get started with AmEx cards. I posted details in the dischurning thread, but I think traffic is down. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I have done lots with Chase, but need some help with AmEx. About 200k points would be useful for Hilton stay in Dec. I think the Hhonors Surpass is the best option right now at 135k with $95 annual fee. Any better cards you would suggest, strategies or pitfalls to keep in mind? With 2 players, the points can be pooled, right?

We usually use Hilton points bc family prefers suites w/ breakfast included (Embassy or Homewood). Is there a comparable chain you would recommend through Bonvoy/ Marriott with a similar style room. Strategy to earn those points?

Most of the nonbranded cards are under 50k points on their bonus right now. Do these ever go up?

Thanks everyone!

Who else just PCd their CIP? Is your $95 fee still showing? DH did his PC over a week ago and the $95 still there. I don't remember it taking so long for a fee to fall off before.

If you can meet the spend on the Aspire it is a great card, even with the high AF. Not sure what your annual spend is, but with the Hilton biz you get a FNC with $15,000.00 (annual) spend. I used it to pay our property taxes last year through Plastiq and got the FNC (Florida has very high property taxes). With the Aspire you get a FNC as well, so the 2 cards together give you 2 FNCs good at any hotel in the Hilton portfolio (as long as a night is available on points). I'm sure others will chime in as well. If you are just looking for points and no perks then the Surpass seems like an excellent card; I'm sure I'll pick it up at some point.

I PC'd CIP to CIC one year and a day after Approval. So I think I beat the annual fee posting, and the new CIC actually shows -$7.92 balance due to AF (which is exactly 95/12). Hope I didn't PC too early?

I don't have a Slickdeals account. If I sign up, I just apply through the link and open an account with HSBC? No other requirements?

You do have to fund the account with at least $1 to open it. Right now mine is saying pending based on verification of trial deposits into my funding account. I hope everything goes smoothly. I haven't done many of these.

Once you're approved you have to fill out the rebate form which takes 30 seconds. SD username and paypal email address (twice).

When I filled out the form I just got an email from slickdeals that shows those 3 lines that I filled in. Did you get any other confirmation from slickdeals? I do hope it works. I was a little ticked off that I had to download the HSBC app to see my account online.

I just noticed the offered account APY has already changed from 1.6% to 1.3% in 2 days!

The spend is no problem but I didn't see much to make it worth the higher fee. Surpass gets a free night after $15k spend, which is reasonable for us. Don't think we would make the $60k spend to get a second free night on Aspire. The lounge perks might be good in a couple years when we start flying international again. That $250 credit is not for the actual flights, right? We don't usually have many incidental charges.

You can still get one of each card right? Any reason to go in a particular order?

For amex, u want to start with an Amex Plat with 100k MR on cardmatch. This is a very targeted offer as 90% of ppl who find this offer are people who do not have any amex cards... Source
After this, it all depends on what cards u want and what category ur hit the most. I see you mention Hilton offer. The best offer right now is currently 150k. U will find these in incognito mode. Source
im not 100% sure about pooling as im in P1 mode.
The only brand that i think beats Hilton in terms or quality is Hyatt(which is a chase card). But it will require you to earn better status to get free suite upgrades and breakfast(globalist gives u free breakfast everywhere and has a decently high chance on getting suites). Hyatt Place/Hyatt House are usually suite like room and offers free full breakfasts. The only downside is Hyatt hotels are not as populated as Hilton or Marriott. Marriott would be my next focus(im hyatt then marriott preferred). You can also consider the highest($450) hilton card as that gives u Diamond status(highest level) but just be aware, a LOT of ppl have Diamond so ur chances of getting upgrades arent very high.
in terms of earning, UR cards to hyatt works the best (CIC,CIP, CIU, CFU, CF, CSP, CSR). as for Hilton points, they have a lot of bonuses u can earn, ie currently, Surpass earns 12x at grocery stores.

theres a ton of nonbranded so im not sure what cards u referring to. some have specific ways to raise their bonuses as stated above(Hilton Surpass 150k, Amex Plat for 100k). Amex Gold for example, is 50k in incognito mode. Theres also other strategies such as if you have a P2, u can refer each other (remember these are taxable).

Hope that helps. feel free to ask more questions.

@Calfan My size 7 Rothy’s have finally arrived. It was quite the saga with the return going MIA but Rothy’s had great Customer service. They fit much better. The back still rubs in the back since they go so high on the flats but I was told to try wearing socks with them to help stretch there a bit.

They are super cute though!

Super cute!!

The Aspire gets you free breakfast at all Hilton hotels,12X points on Hilton stays, the FNC and $250.00 resort credit (which can be used towards restaurants effective June 1st). If you can use those benefits to justify the AF then it's worth it. I used it to book 7 nights at the Conrad Maldives in an over water bungalow next April (5 nights points and 2 FNCs). Cash cost would be $1,140.00 / night and we will also get free breakfast, which is worth around $50.00 pp at that property. This card is a keeper for me. I had dh's CFO use my Aspire to pay for hotel rooms for his staff for his annual holiday party in 2019 and with the "organizer" points and 12X points for the rooms I had enough points for 5 nights at the WA Calendonian in Edinburgh. Depending on your needs and usage this card could be very valuable. I've also really come to love Hilton hotels and as a diamond member you have a dedicated phone number and the CSRs I've spoken with are incredibly nice and very helpful. Tagging @calypso726 since she also gets great mileage out of the Aspire.

I like that you have a specific goal in mind: 200K HH points by Dec. Totally doable. When I googled Hilton credit cards I pulled up 150K on the Surpass...but now that I tried again it's gone! (see edit below) Weird. Yes, you can pool your Hilton points with 2 players (up to 10 actually).

Residence Inn is similar to Homewood Suites. It's kind of tough to rack up many Marriott points right now though because of the crazy rules. If it's your first Marriott card, I think the highest offer right now is 75K points.

I responded with a lengthy (probably too lengthy) post on dischurners, so there are more thoughts over there.

ETA: @DisMommyTX I googled "American Express Hilton cards" and clicked on the "Compare Hilton Honors Credit Cards" search result and it shows 150K/$3K on the Surpass. That's higher than what you posted or even what I can find thru a support link.

Yes I got the confirmation.

Here's your friendly reminder that Southwest Airlines next schedule release is expected to occur one week from today on THURSDAY, May 28th!. For those planning to snag flights, set those calendar reminders so you don't forget!
  • Currently SW is offering flights through 10/30/20 and this next release will take their schedule out to 1/4/21. This release will obviously cover the major holidays and prices may increase quickly for popular dates (although who knows what this release will look like in our COVID-19 landscape) . I'll try to post additional reminders as the date draws nearer.
For those that care about "release timing" it's been all over the board recently (all times Eastern):
  • The release on 3/12/20 went live at 9:40am.
  • The release on 12/11/19 went live at 9:10am.
  • The release on 10/30/19 went live at 7:15am.
  • The release on 9/26/19 went live at 7:30am.
  • The release on 8/15/19 went live at 10:41am.
  • The release on 5/30/19 went live at 9:20am.
