News Round Up 2020

I could see first day being busy and then dying down for a bit - if things seems to be going smoothly than more people might go

Maybe, but ultimately it'll be a function of the weather, mask requirements and heat exhaustion potential that will govern the masses flocking.

Looking at pics of Disney Springs there were people who wanted to be there opening day but then days after that have been less people. Guessing the parks may be similar until more people feel comfortable and safe going.
Yes, all 18,000 professional Disney bloggers had to show up and take photos of the same 5 signs. 🙄

But Universal has a decent number of local APs and I do wonder if Saturdays and Sundays will be problematic in June. I guess we will see.

I think you will be surprised. I have seen pics on Facebook of the margarittaville water park line today. Disney would have no problem hitting reduced capacity.
Could because no mask requirement. I have a feeling VB will be busier than the other Universal parks for the first bit too. Plus it's really hot out!

Downtown Disney Anaheim is pretty different from Disney Springs, not sure too many locals go just to have a Wetzel’s Pretzel as they shop at the Sunglass Hut. It’ll be interesting to see what they open when.
You also have to pay to park at downtown Disney. Same with our city walk. They charge at all times of day, so if they are still charging to park and the theme parks aren’t open it will be interesting to see what kind of traffic they get.

Do they validate?

And take a tram, right?

It’s also a LOT easier to find a good restaurant in Orange County California than Orange County Florida. 2 of the 5 best meals I’ve ever had in my life were in Newport Beach. The draw just seems less compelling.

But you get free parking if you're a passholder right? Aren't passholders a huge amount of their business there?

Some clarification from a DL local and AP holder:
-There is a dedicated lot for Downtown Disney. Everyone has to pay, AP or not.
-That lot does not have a tram.
-There is validation: 5 hours free with a table service meal, 3 hours free with any $20 purchase

If you have the highest level of AP (Signature Plus and Signature), then parking is included in your pass. It is valid at the Mickey and Friends or Pixar Pals garages or the Toy Story lot.

All passes below this level have to pay for parking. I believe it is $25. Once upon a time you could add parking in to any AP. I think some long-time APs might be grandfathered and are still able to.

Lower levels can have the parking add on, its a grandfathered benefit.

Really? I’m down there all the time and feel like I see a decent amount of people just there for shopping or dining. It’s way smaller than DS of course but it still gets pretty packed, and not just with park-goers.

Lived in the Tampa Bay area from 1959 until 1998. Agree, humidity is a "killer" there, but don't believe all you here about lack of humidity in Arizona. Monsoon season starts late June to mid July when the winds come in from the south. Highs in the 110's and occasional 120+ with humidity is not a pleasant experience. Guess we will find out what wearing a mask is like then; not much we can do about it though.

I grew up in Arizona and family still lives there so I am there many times a year... and the barely-there humidity of Arizona has nothing on Florida. With that said though wearing a mask in either place sounds horrible! I have a hard time here in Utah when it is in the 70s.

Maybe, but ultimately it'll be a function of the weather, mask requirements, and heat exhaustion potential that will govern the masses flocking.

I am highly interested to see how big the crowds really are when everyone figures out how truly awful it is to wear masks for 10 plus hours a day in a place where you have the sun beating down, high levels of humidity, and have to be very active. A normal day in Florida during most of the year is downright awful... now add something covering your breathing.

Agree .. I think there will be a rush to be there Day 1 due to all the pent up demand (and .. as mentioned above .. all the vloggers to get the "scoop").

But after that .. until people feel they can take normal vacations down there (most everything open, feel safe to fly, have enough flights down there, etc.), capacity will be down. So the theme parks may just be like a regional park for a while.

NEWS

Orange County, CA moved into phase 2 of reopening which could allow Downtown Disney to open (no word from Disney)

I guess the DOJ pressuring them worked. Kind of sad.

EDIT: No matter what anyone thinks, this was not meant as a political statement. It's a statement of fact that the DOJ discussed opening with the governor of California. So, please do not reply to this or comment on this in a political nature. Discussing politics is not allowed on the boards.
